Flagstar Bank is a one star company as far as customer service goes. I agree with Randi K. who also posted a statement. I had ab insurance loss claim that started in February 1st, 2024. Flagstar has been a nightmare to deal with, to get the funds out of some vague escrow account. I have spent hours trying to get this resolved to no avail. They use an online website and an terrible department in their company called the "Insurance Claims Ceneter". It is the biggest barrier to get help to get my home repaired and the contractor paid. As of the writing of this review it is still not resolved and they are still holding onto money that I need to get my home repaired and paid for, Flagstar contracts out to a third party inspection company known as Safeguard Properties that is equally as incompetent and has rotten customer service. Whenever I call it takes hours to get to someone, at Flagstar to help get problems resolved and nothing ever get done. I have tried to get help from their so-called "resolutions department" and nothing ever gets resolved. No help, no resolution, just barrier after barrier. NO one ever answers quickly and god help you if you need to get transferred to another person. The calls go into call center hell and you can never get out. Flagstar clearly does not care about its customers, anything they have to suffer thru, nor really in getting anything resolved to assist their customers getting help. No one at this bank takes responsibility for anything!! They really do not care if you are their customer, your house is in disrepair, getting anything resolved; because of their incompetence and lack of good customer support, They have a lot of customer service verbiage on their webpage about their values and care for their customers which is all lies and subterfuge. As I am writing this review, I have spent another 30 minutes waiting on hold to speak to someone regarding my problem again.. Do not use this company, run, get a mortgage loan from anyone else or you will be very, very sorry. read more

Dave and his team at Flagstar are exceptional. We discovered Dave Walling and his team many years ago while going through the efforts to find a good mortgage rate as well as a trustworthy lender. We found that and more with Flagstar! I appreciate the level of knowledge and expertise Dave (and his team) provides. He and his team truly are experts in what they do! When we bought our first home, I was "that guy" who reads through every line of every contract/agreement and wants to fully understand the entire process. Most brokers seem too busy to provide that level of care, not Dave! He took the time to explain every line of every contract/agreement which we signed, along with every variable utilized in determining our loan. This was huge for me as I was a first-time home buyer and had a lot of questions. At the conclusion of our loan, we got the home we wanted, closed escrow early, had a FANTASTIC RATE, and could not have been happier!!! Another important take-away from that first experience is the gaining of a trustworthy mortgage broker. We have performed numerous transactions since then, including re-financing as well as subsequent home purchases. We will never go with anyone else other than Dave and his team. If/when Dave retires, I guess I will just have to stop buying houses because there is nobody who compares. Furthermore, dealing with the bank following the purchase is very easy and convenient. They offer online account activity such as making payments, escrow impound account activity etc. Also, if you want to speak to a person, they are readily available for phone inquiries. If you are shopping for a home and need a top-notch broker, then try him and his team out! I guarantee you will be so impressed that you too will gain a mortgage broker for life! VETERANS BEWARE! DO NOT TAKE ANY VA LOANS WITH THIS COMPANY!!! If I could give this bank Zero (0) starts I would. My VA loan was sold to them as of 9/1/21 and it has been an utter NIGHTMARE every since! I made my regularly scheduled payment and they received it but put it in a "lost account" their words when I didn't see it posted 10 days later. I called to follow-up and was told that it was because the account was new and they would open a ticket to find it and get it taken care of. 10 more days go by and nothing but late notices stating I was past due. I called again this morning once I found that the payment had been returned. I was told that my bank would not allow them to pull the funds and that I had to call my bank to get it resolved. I did that and the bank show that Flagstar could not recognize the account number and returned the payment to them. We verified the information and it was correct. No one knows why the payment was returned! Each customer rep has a different answer but no one can explain what happened! UGH!! I do not recommend this bank to anyone especially Veterans. Flagstar does did not know what they are doing and do not take responsibility for their errors. I am looking to refinance my loan simply to get it out of their hands to end this nightmare! read more

If I could leave zero stars, I would. They are one of the worst mortgage companies I have ever had the displeasure to deal with. The customer service reps don't care and give run around answers. They are charging a fee that they say is policy but no real explanation. She just kept repeating that the fee was policy. As a former loan representative, all I can say is that some of their practices are a bit shady and unethical. I am so disgusted. Where do I even start? My husband and I were recommended to Dave Walling by our realtor. We previously had a different lender in mind and were VERY loyal to them. So when we found a potential home and couldn't get ahold of our preferred lender we got worried. However, our realtor HIGHLY recommended Dave as the man that can make things happen. I am the type of person if I get one bad vibe from a person or company I will not do business with them. So I told my realtor I will reach out and talk to him to feel him out. My husband and I are considered young and used a VA loan so we needed a lender that would take the time to answer our phone calls and explain things we didn't understand without being irritated. As soon as I finished my initial call with him, I immediately called my relator to let her know moving forward we would like to work with Dave. I certainly wish I could give a negative number review for Flagstar Bank. Flagstar Bank is easily the worst bank I have ever dealt with in 60 years of banking. Calling Flagstar Bank is like a trip to the kindergarten classroom. Often I find people who are hired to assist with Mortgage questions have a difficult time with the English language. If you're considering using Flagstar bank for anything please reconsider. Flagstar Bank has the poorest service of anyone including Wells Fargo who owns Flagstar bank. If I could give zero star to this flagstar mortgage company I will. I send my mortgage to them every time early enough, but they hold your check and won't apply it to your account, it usually takes 7-10 days. This is ridiculous. they apply payment late helping them to charge more interest from all the customers. They even lied to us saying they did not recerive the check until the day they apply it. My bank always sends the check on time and also have the receipt. You can tell who is lying? Either the Post Office and my bank both lie or it's the mortgage company, it's really unlikly both bank and post office lie togethe to sent out check late! I hope there is a law suit publicly against this company for the extra interest they've stolen from every single customer they have！ read more

They processed the loan without any trouble, but the cost kept going up. It was supposd to cost about $597. Then it went up to $817. The $842 after they lost my check. Then they took another $900 out of my escrow account. The final paperwork was wrong and had to be changed. I guess they did not think I would read it. So basically they were charging me double interest for the old loan and the new loan. This could happen if you refinace with another mortgage lender, but it should not happen for seven days with the same lender. I'll go with someone else next time. read more

This is the worse mortgage company. I refinanced to lower my payment. First year after they raised my payment. Escrow shortage. Second year again raised. They said it was missed from previous years. My escrow and insurance are included in my payment. To avoid these problems. I would reconsider going with this company if you have choices. They said payment would go back down after a year. A bank that doesn't want to give you a home loan. NOT recommended. Incompetence / Disorganization. - Even though they accept and approve your loan documentation (proof of employment for example) they keep coming back wanting more "evidence" as the weeks go by. One example was when I wired a small good faith deposit into escrow. The Loan officer said they needed the official receipt from my bank of the transfer. I gave them the receipt and they said "perfect". I get a call out of the blue a week later.."Not good enough. You need to call the escrow company and get a letter stating they received that wire transfer".. so I did....but it was a major pain getting this because the escrow company doesn't get that request very often.. Then a week later, I get another call "Not good enough. You need to go back to your bank and get your latest bank statement to show that you wired the money and that they accepted the money". Okay, now imagine this asinine process for the majority of the loan deliverables. If you needed all these additional documents why not ask for them UP FRONT. -Dishonesty. ( two counts) Count 1 - Loan officers were one of the primary causes of the mortgage meltdown. Needless to say they have a long history of saying anything to make sure you don't cancel the loan and go to a different bank. This is especially true when it comes to fees and Cost Of Closing amounts. Provident ( and all brokers) give you a good faith estimate of closing costs when you first apply for the loan.. The fees, charges, impounds all make sense and are reasonable. When the loan docs are ready to be sent ( at the closing of escrow) you get a new cost of closing.. Guess what...Big difference in Fees and Charges. Provident went out of their way to pre warn me about the increase in fees and charges "Everyone freaks out when they see that, it's just worst case scenario. You'll get most of that refunded". *Bullsh*t flag*. They do this because it makes it more difficult to negotiate their fees down up front. Count 2 - Home appraisal. I'll write a separate review of the appraisal company later. Even though you are paying for the appraisal services, they work for the Mortgage company and only the mortgage company. This was another pain point that proved to me that Provident just doesn't want to do home loans. Complete incompetence by both the appraiser and the bank. Tip - Get the appraisal done as soon as possible. This will give you better leverage to walk away (or threaten to walk away) early enough int he process. - Slap to the face ( to the buyer, the seller, and the escrow company). Everything was settled in Escrow except for Provident sending in their money. For two days after the close of escrow everyone waited ( buyer - me, and Seller - Bank) to hear from Provident. On the third day, guess what ... Provident wants more docs! They required a copy of Drivers license, and demanded an explanation on a wiring fee I received on one of my bank statements. Again, all of this should have been required weeks ago. Idiots. You're challenging a wiring fee now? Really? Fortunately I had the information and sent it off.. It took another day to officially close. - Look, underwriting standards are tight these days. But if you're coming in with a conforming loan you better not waste my time with this BS. read more

It has been an absolute nightmare working with this mortgage company. We financed our 2nd home with them and naively believed it would make for a more efficient process to refi our 1st home since they had much of the basic info. First week we had people reaching out for copies of our drivers license?! Then whether it was them or the escrow company they used they'd have four different people in the same office calling, texting and emailing us requesting information but not talking to each other about what the other was doing. We did the refi for cash back in order to use the money for house upgrades on both houses and the refi is now roughly a month past closing and they were called the other day as we were supposed to fund and couldn't because...they didn't have the payoff amount?!?! On fund day?!?!!!!! A couple weeks ago they had a request for in writing notice a Home Equity loan had been paid off...husband had to go into branch which was a nightmare process to get hard copy and send them...apparently they lost because again, promised to fund today but they are now asking for that...AGAIN?!!!! He happens to be working...in the field..out in woods...not happening today!!! I'm so over these unprofessional Mickey Mouse outfits!! Never have I ever...will reconsider ever buying in Cali again!! My experience was awful at how Flagstar made mistakes in processing my loan. If your broker cannot promise you another bank for servicing, I suggest you find another broker. Customer service agents were unable to answer basic questions, and gave multiple conflicting information about how my property tax payment was lost, costing me late fees and hours of headache. My loan was originally with Penny Mac and started doing a refi with them, and was told 30 days, well 65+ days into still working on it with no end in site. Got an e-mail from Steve and decided what the hell, I'll try them since he did rescue me from dealing with Wells Fargo back in 2011 when I was buying the house. Boy was this the right idea, the loan started on the 17th of July and we finished up on Aug 3rd. What a difference this was.
