Last month in June, I did a tour at Encore Event Center. I worked with a gentleman named Peter Charles. He seemed to be friendly, but very fast talking and very salesy. Sad to say I fell for the okey-doke! We were made to believe that they are completely booked up all the way till 2027 and the only way to possibly book the date we were interested in was to pay $1000 booking deposit. He also quoted us $15,000 for an all-inclusive package, which is a great deal, but we noticed him changing the numbers on the quote to get it to equal a certain amount which we thought was a little bit shady. other venues we viewed, it was cut and dry what their cost was and what each element costs. Anyways, we put down the deposit because we were told that we have two weeks to decide and we did not see any harm in holding our date while we figured out what we were doing. Fast-forward only 4 days later, we decided not to go with them because we found a venue we loved with staff that were very transparent. It took me three days to get a response from Peter to get a refund. He only wanted to do things on the phone, he avoided trying to text me details. But I wanted things in writing. he called me and dropped our package down to $10,000! Because he didn't want us to cancel. I thought that was interesting that he was able to cut our price down so easily within seconds down to 10,000. That shows me he was just trying to make a sale instead of genuinely helping us on the biggest day of our lives. He told me it would be 10 business days to get my refund. I waited 10 business days and never seen a refund. I even have text messages of him telling me that I'll get a confirmation once the refund is processed. He absolutely confirmed that my refund was on the way. So after 10 business days,. I then called the venue and spoke with Maria. She told me Peter never requested my refund or never notated that I wanted a refund! Sounds like he was trying to run the clock out on my two week grace period. It's now been a month and I'm still going back-and-forth with them and now taking legal action. I just wanted to share my experience with anyone considering Encore Event Center. They are definite scammers. Not to mention, the venue itself was messy, the floors creaked , everything was outdated and tacky. He was trying to offer us the tiniest room for 140 people. There was no way we could fit 140 people in that space. While I'm excited to plan my wedding and create the most beautiful day of my life, it's starting out so dampend and dark because of Encore Event Center. Nobody has reached out to me, I still have not gotten a refund after a month. I have no confirmation emails that this has been worked on. It has been an absolute nightmare! I've worked in customer service over 10+ years. Nobody has tried to check in on me and make sure I'm OK or needed anything or communicated that things were in process etc. It's like crickets over there. Do not waste your time! read more

Had a great time at my company holiday party that was held here! Beautiful venue inside but you would have never have guessed from the outside, since it's located in a business park around Miramar/Mira Mesa. The walls inside were beautifully painted like a dark fairy tale forest with unique lighted trees and hanging plants as chandeliers. Haven't seen a place like this before. They had buffet style food, bar, dance floor, DJ and even a photo booth. My coworkers had me vote before the party for what menu I would like, so I know there are about 4 menus to pick from if I remember correctly. I came late so there wasn't as much food out, but I did enjoy my plate. The food isn't fancy, but there was a good variety... wedge salad, prime rib, au gratin potatoes. I just remembered that it wasn't exactly hot anymore when I got there Think we had about 10 tables, which was a tight fit. They had a dance floor I've never seen before! It had a purple glow and was squishy when you stepped on it. I'm obviously easily amused. They did have a bar as well, which accepted cash and card. Sodas were free so my coworker told me a life hack... instead of buying a mixed drink, for example a coke and whiskey... just order a double shot and a side of soda for the same price! More liquor and not watered down. The bartender there on December 1st 2017 was really friendly and down to earth. We had our Christmas party here. The package included finger food but there were no utensils to pick them up off the platter, paper plates were provided to us but little china plates were for the desserts. Hmmm. Decor was okay but it was very warm inside. Overall imo 4/10. read more

Maybe I'm being biased here. Or maybe I'm just a tough critic. Ugh, who am I kidding? This place was just not up to par with their customer service. Myst is a venue - banquet hall-esque type of venue - that has such a unique and whimsical theme to it. Not my cup of tea, but for whoever is into the James Cameron's "Avatar" bioluminescent forest, "Alice in Wonderland" tea party with the Mad Hatter theme, this place is definitely it for you - hopefully if the service changes. They offer anything from a DJ, catering, bar, projector, etc. So I was here for a wedding anniversary & it was just not, for lack of a better word, good. 1. I can't remember how many tables were set up but there was no walking room between some tables that some guests had to walk around. 2. They ran out of soda cans so the guests had to wait until their staff ran to the store to retrieve some more drinks. 3. The food was too salty. We got the "Polynesian" package I think it was called. This included pulled pork and dinner rolls. Not sure what was Polynesian about that but, alright. To each his own. The guests complained about how salty the food was. 4. One of the staff members rolled her eyes when asked if we can have tongs for the buffet. 5. The projector was crooked and they didn't do anything to alleviate the problem. 6. Some of our guests were over the food & didn't even finish their plates. 1/5 would not recommend. Unless you're into the whole glow in the dark vibe. read more

Verdict: Our company approves. We had chosen to have our company's annual party here this past year. We had other options, but this location had the edge mainly based on its versatility. They allowed us to openly plan our party with fewer restrictions that other places require. Our quote and final price ended up being fairly reasonable considering our specifications. Not the cheapest you can find, but much more worth it after all is said and done. If you are looking for an open space for up to 80 people, this is ideal. They have hosted much larger crowds in the past, but most of their events have less people. They have a stage, dance floor, photo booth, kitchen with freezer, and enough tables and chairs for any situation. They also have services available upon request, such as catering, an open bar service, bussing and cleanup, DJ, etc. The vibe in the place felt like it was a hit. We will keep this place in mind for future events. FYI: - As long as everyone doesn't have to use the restroom all at the same time, everything will be fine. - During the day or when not everything is set up, it may not look like much, but it will be beautiful when it's ready. - Parking is usually not a problem, as many surrounding businesses tend to be closed during events here. - The dance floor can get very slippery, especially with minimal liquid spilled onto the tiles. - Staff and contacts are usually very responsive and won't leave you hanging. read more

I recently attended a baby shower at Myst. It is definitely a surprise when you walk inside, with an Alice in Wonderland forest tea party theme. My friend told me that it was really affordable (approx. $400 for 20 adults) and only had to add very few extras to have exactly what she wanted. They had a station to decorate baby clothes, a photo booth with props, an unlimited mimosa bar, and a drinking chocolate station. There was music and a dance floor. The dance floor looked cool with it's lights and colors, but seemed more appropriate for a children's party. I think it would have been appreciated if there had been more kids at this shower. The long tea party table was cute, set with tiered trays and beautiful teapots and teacups. They were piled with sweets and small sandwiches. The sweets were good, but I didn't like the sandwiches. They consisted of either nutella or lunch meat and mayo on dry wheat bread. I liked the mimosa bar. There were four juices to choose from. My favorite were the guava mimosas. They also had a nice variety of teas. I really enjoyed the rose passion tea. Everyone also had a good time at the drinking chocolate station. They had different flavors, and they came with colored, glitter sprinkles and whipped cream. The Thai chili chocolate was amazing. All in all, this is a very nice spot for a celebration....surprisingly tucked away in the Miramar office park area. read more

Came here earlier this afternoon for a girls day for my baby cousin's birthday celebration. This place is very kid friendly with a cool little dance floor. It's dark inside but has lots of LED colored lights. The kid friendly aspect earns this place one star. Everything else kind of goes downhill from there. The little sandwiches and the sweets were terrible! They say they make the sandwiches fresh when the entire party gets there which is great but they use really old bread! The bread was terribly dry. Imagine buying a loaf of bread and using it a week and a half later. The sweets were not good at all. You would think kids would indulge in anything sweet but nope. All the little girls in our group thought everything was gross and wouldn't eat anything. They picked at it and we either had to eat it for them or take it home. We got about 5 tiers and pretty much packed them all home. What a waste. We will not be back. read more

I received an Evite for a friend's 40th "clubbing" birthday party and I see Myst listed as the venue. Ok--let's Google Myst and see what this place is all about. Myst Hookah Lounge comes up and it's downtown. Wait a minute, I don't see this sweet friend having a party at a hookah bar. This Myst is located in Mira Mesa...wait, what? So here's the deal: Myst is a venue that you can use to host birthday parties, tea parties, showers, even weddings. And yes, it's in Mira Mesa across from the Signorama. Upon driving here, you will quadruple check that Siri is leading you to the right place because it's located among a strip of beige office buildings (i.e. not very club like at all). What's even weirder is walking through the parking and passing a tutoring club in your clubbing outfit. When you walk in, you find yourself in what seems like a twinkling forest with a dance floor. The space is pretty big, so I could see how this would be a great place for hosting kids' birthday parties. There are plenty of tables and they are nice wooden ones instead of plastic ones. The food is obviously up to the host, so in this case, small bites were served (egg rolls, cream cheese puffs, chicken wings, and pigs in a blanket). The wings were surprisingly good and overall, the appetizers were just meh. The service was more behind-the-scenes with one or two staff members walking around checking in on things. I noticed that the food trays were never empty and they also bring out self-serve coffee & tea. Overall, if you can get over the location this is a solid venue for semi-formal occasions since it is versatile (tea parties, clubbing, to weddings). read more

We found this spot when searching for locations that could serve as a wedding and reception venue. After viewing several possible venues in San Diego the bride and groom selected this spot and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The Location: The exterior is nothing special. It is located in a business park in the Miramar area. The plus side of the business park setting is that there was plenty of easy parking for guests and it was not crowded in the evening hours. Don't judge this place by the outside. As soon as you walk in the door you are transported to an enchanted forest. The walls have forest murals and there are lighted trees that create a magical space that provided a storybook background for the ceremony. Staff: The staff were all very responsive and helpful. The DJ was fantastic and knew how to keep the guest engaged and the party rolling. The staff handling food service were responsive to requests and attentive to the needs of our guests. Food: Nothing truly special in this arena. It was typical buffet quality food. Summary, a unique and budget friendly venue for a celebration be it a wedding, a work party, or a birthday event. Two words: BAD BUSINESS! My daughter and I met with Leo (business owner) to check the place. We both liked it, so I have decided to book a date and paid $150 deposit. Unfortunately, after finding out that my family were not able to attend, I emailed him to cancel (2 days after the booking) and to refund my money since he did not provide any "Cancellation Policy". He did not reply at all and so I called 2 days after the email was sent. Spoke with Leo but refused to refund my money. He said, he will only refund my money if someone else will book on the same date I requested. The date is for May 20, 2017. Until now he's not communicating with me. If your company does not have any Cancellation Policy at all, you should refund the money. Bad business Sir! I had my 60th Birthday party at Myst, and my guests and I loved it! I had about 90 people there, and Myst provided the venue and the food. The experience at Myst was wonderful! Leo, the owner, was available by phone or email whenever I needed to speak with him. He answered our questions fully and functioned almost as a party-planner in that he offered good common-sense advice and referrals as needed/ My friends loved the venue and many claimed it was the best party they'd ever been to! Most certainly, my Myst party was the best party I ever had or had been to! Also, Myst provided the food for my party(which was a Mexican taco bar). I was a bit apprehensive, because I had never tasted their food before the party, but my fears were groundless. The food was tasty and fresh. The price was reasonable, and the service from Myst's staff was great! I would totally recommend using Myst. I would certainly have another party there! Maybe next year! And one last thing.... The dancing and party ambience at Myst was so great! I felt like I was dancing in a mystical forest "disco, " but in the best way possible! When we emailed them they were rude and denied it at first and then said one of their wait staff did it but didn't hold them accountable. The food is also crap! When my friend began planning her wedding with a VERY tight budget, I tried to help. First hurdle: she's in San Diego, and I'm in Dallas. I started mad googling, and lucked onto Myst. LUCKY FIND! When I was searching for a venue, I was struck by how expensive San Diego can be. Everything I found quoted pricing in the $3k-$5k range for use of the facilities, with a ton of stipulations (i.e. "You HAVE to use X caterer", "You HAVE to us X bar service"). Then I got to Myst. Flat fee of about 1/3 of the usual, and NO STRINGS ATTACHED. You pay, and you get full run of the joint. Outside food? No problem. Bringing booze? Go for it! Need to use the kitchen? It's all yours. All of that for 6 hours on a Saturday in April! Bonus: IT'S A MAGICAL DISCO FOREST, Y'ALL. Lights and murals everywhere. An LED tree in the middle of the room. A crazy interactive dance floor. I can understand how the decor might not be what everyone is looking for, but for THIS wedding? It was a perfect fit! The bride and groom checked it out and agreed (WHEW!). Even better, they ended up using the venue's caterer and bartender for a great price, and Myst waived the venue fee altogether! The food was delicious (curry and pad thai, prepared with vegans and omnivores in mind), and the drinks were stout, all served by excellent staff. Manager very tall guy, on point and very personable and helpful. No complaints, For the venue everyone said it was a fairytale and wouldn't believe it was affordable compared to the run down bay venues. We just had our end-of-the-year company party at Myst and we had the best time! Leo and Claire are both wonderful hosts and warmly welcomed us upon our arrival. The venue is gorgeous and so immersive-- it feels like you are really in an enchanted garden! We were seated for the tea service and Claire came out and offered us several types of tea, and various treats, sandwiches and sweet delights! (and they were a delight!) After tea, Leo came out and started up the dance floor. We work for an entertainment company so needles to say, all of our employees are natural hams and couldn't wait to dance! We had the entire venue to ourselves and, for that reason, we really let loose on the dance floor. Our group of girls ranged in age 20-31 and we all had the time of our lives, which proves that tea parties aren't just for little girls! HORRIBLE SERVICE! We've been here before for the tea service, so we were looking forward to coming here again, this time for private venue. They seem to know what they're doing for the that, but if you ever want to book the private venue, DON'T DO IT! They only seem to know what they're doing if they provide their tea service but when it comes to a private venue, it's just NOT worth it. My family and I came here for a birthday party. When we first got there ON TIME they were still setting up and there seemed to be leftover people from the previous party. Thought they were just part of someone's friends at the party but these leeches stuck around and when it was time to chow down, they got in line to eat and LEFT! Hope ya'll get your karma! I tried to think "hey maybe they're with someone" but NOPE! Lot of us were talking about WTF happened, thinking "What the hell kind of venue is this?". Why are we here if they're not ready? Why is the previous party still here? Why choose an event that seemed to not give a damn? We felt so bad that we had to lend a hand. I wondered what was going so I went online only to see that people only have 1 hour to set up between parties. REALLY? That explains a lot! And there were barely staff in sight who were paid $300 for 2 people. Maybe 10% of the time we saw them. I felt sorry for the celebrants to witness sooo many of their guest at the kitchen BEGGING for service and the staff seemed less than enthusiastic to help. Party hosts were busy entertaining us and then at the kitchen asking for assistance, then assigning jobs to GUESTS! I came to party, not work. But given that I saw they didn't have the support they paid for, we had to do something and stop blaming on the host because it wasn't their fault they had crappy people to work with. Where was the person in charge of the venue? Please just do your job right and learn to TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS so everyone can be happy! It was all just so PATHETIC! I left a bad review because he would not refund my deposit $500 with MONTHS cancelling in advance, and THIS was his "professional" response...???! I asked for a contract initially and was refused, because I got this vibe from him. Should have trusted my instincts and listened to other reviewers. How petty and childish and RUDE this is.... greed is a horrible thing to suffer from my friends. Literally got robbed by this little man. "Although I did make a courtesy offer, seeing as you do not appreciate it, the offer is no longer on the table. For people considering our facility, please be aware that if we commit to holding a date for you, you are committing to that date (although we may apply the deposit to a future event if given enough notice to remarket). We've recently attended a big party at Myst. We sat at the table with 8 other guests and majority of the discussion we had was about the food. So I'm not being subjective here. While the hosts ordered several meals and a decent amount of food, everything that Myst served was very poorly prepared. Many dishes remained untouched... The fish was dry and tasteless, potatoes were cold and overcooked, salads weren't good either. It also felt like they didn't have enough waiters, because it took forever to address guest's requests; we asked for more water or juice and waited for 25 min. Definitely a negative experience from a culinary stand point. read more

We entrusted this place with helping to celebrate our daughter's very special birthday and they completely failed us. Here is a complete list of all the things that went wrong: Setup · Upon arrival prior to the start of our party we discovered that all the linens were mismatched and wrong colors were placed on wrong tables. Luckily we had an hour to change everything. That happened despite agreed upon very detailed instructions as to what goes where. · Table arrangements (number of chairs) were incorrect at 3 out of 7 tables and had to be corrected at the last minute. These last minute adjustments were very stressful and aggravating and showed very low professionalism of the owner and the team as commented upon by several other reviewers on Yelp. Food/Service · Kids food was cold, fries were quite soggy and tasteless, and many kids complained about the overall quality and quantity of the food. · They put Plastic cups for water instead of actual glasses which really cheapened the whole decor · For adult menu, we changed stuffed mushrooms for Juliene salad , but we still got stuffed mushrooms despite this agreed upon change · Forty adults (more than half of the party) did not eat their main course, salmon, as it was simply not edible. It was overdried and covered with mayo even though we asked not to have mayo on it. Rice was cold. · Waiters/waitresses were clearly not trained as they did not bother to ask if person ordered fish or meat but would just set the plates down wherever. A few people did not get meals at all. There was serious confusion at several of the tables. All in all pretty awful experience but to make matters worse, the owner refused to apologize or admit any mistakes. Instead he delayed, denied and ultimately did not want to do anything to make up for this disaster. I don't think he ever heard about "customer is always right" mantra of hospitality business and it showed. We will never use this place again for any occasion and don't recommend it to anyone else hoping to organize a good party. We had our daughters 7th birthday here and this place is very, very cool. It very much reminded me of a movie set with the lighting, sound effects and lasers. The atmosphere was very much like a magical fairyland with twinkling lights, fog and sound effects. Our daughter and her friends had a 'tea party' complete with english tea (kid friendly), little cakes, candies and finger sandwiches. The presentation and 'explanation' of how to drink tea was also a nice touch. However, the dance party was really the highlight of the day. With the amazing party lights, disco ball, lasers & music, the kids had a blast dancing! The DJ was good and his play list was perfect for the kids. The kids easily danced for over an hour and loved every minute of it. It is one of the few kids birthday parties where the parents had as much fun as the kids! read more

This place is a room and nothing more: nice good size for not big (50-60 people) party room. Food is awful. I have been at plenty of Russian restaurants (Myst's owners are Russian and food they serve THEY conceder Russian), but this place is shameful. They charge you plenty of money for a "banquet" menu but amount of food served for the family style table of 10 is laughable! Most of the food was purchased already ready to eat and this was only food you can eat: pickles, meat/cold cuts plate, smoked fish plate. EVERYTHING their "cook" touched was indigestible. Kebab was cold and we asked waiter at least heat it up...but even after that it was terrible: no salt and absolutely no taste. And fish! Oh my, this is something else: have you ever tasted dirty rug? Overcooked/boiled (!) tilapia with God knows what on top that tasted and looked like a vomit. So my advise: if you need a good nice room, Myst is your place, but please bring your own catering. DO NOT order food from them. As for Myst, hire a good cook and your place will have a chance. read more

We paid the deposit and booked our wedding, then they refused to answer our multiple phone calls and emails, and we ultimately chose to go to another venue. When they FINALLY returned our calls, after much back and forth they agreed to refund our deposit if they filled the venue for that date. They did fill the venue and then refused again to give us back our deposit. Stay away. read more

My wife and I recently had our wedding at Myst. Initially what sold us was the decor. But what really made it worth it, was the service. Leo, Claire and the entire staff made sure our big day went off without a hitch. They understood our budget and delivered on everything that we had discussed prior to the ceremony/reception. I would definitely recommend booking with them if you would like to have an all inclusive experience; from the ceremony to the catering, to the bar, and wrapping up with the reception. My daughter just had her wedding here and it was amazing! Everyone had a great time all night! Taco bar was good, beef, shrimp and chicken tacos to pick from. We went to a wedding and reception here in April. From the photos and reviews I was not expecting much, but as another reviewer has noted, at night, when the lighting is subtle and pretty, it really does look enchanting inside in spite of the industrial complex outside. They handled the wedding ceremony, music and seating well. The DJ was fine and music was good for dancing. The buffet dinner was nice, several appys and a few main course choices, and some adventurous sides including a French dish with apples and potatoes. Overall it was a good venue, but with a few serious drawbacks that wouldn't be a big deal for just a party, but for a wedding reception were major. 1) The wedding guests had to drag their chairs from where the vows were taken across the room to where the dining tables were set up. As there were no seating charts, it was very chaotic. 2) The bar was out of white wine before the main course was served. Even if the customers didn't order enough white wine, seems like the management should have made adjustments. There was plenty of hard liquor and beer apparently. 3) After we finished dinner, our plates were not bussed for over an hour, it is really off-putting to look at 12 plates of mostly eaten food for that long. There was an unused counter nearby and finally a friend and I moved all the plates at our table to it ourselves. Looking around, all the other 10 or 12 tables were in the same condition, with not just dirty plates but empty beer bottles, and wine glasses. 4) The Ladies Room was really unattractive and neglected. It could so easily be made more inviting. For $300 at Home Goods they could update the room with a nicer vanity and a few statement pieces, then paint the room and fix a few raggedy items. read more

We had our daughter's Sweet 16 party at Myst on January 20th. We couldn't have been happier!! The venue decorations were perfect for a masquerade party and the staff went WELL above and beyond our expectations!! Everyone there did everything they could to make this a special evening for my daughter and make it easy on us! The food was amazing and the DJ was awesome! Simply disappointing. We planned big event with myst and had one star experience. Place is nice and beautiful and looked like wonderland, but everything else was more of the horror /misery. Met up with manager/owner and cook several times, gave detailed instructions, went over food, service, table arrangements.....and it was messed up on every level. Won't recommend it !!!! read more

Just had my wedding at Myst and it was awesome! Leo delivered on everything he promised and the venue is so beautiful and unique. We did the ceremony and reception here and we had so much fun! We planned our wedding on short notice and not only was Myst the most affordable option, AND the coolest, it was also available. The staff was flexible, kind, and easy going. BYOB/BYOF, or use their excellent bartender/caterers, bring a DJ or hook your iPod up to their AMAZING sound system. Enjoy their spectacular lighting. Not only was my wedding reception unique, and (relatively) cheap, but everyone talked about what an amazing time it was, from my grandmother down to the three year olds at the party and everyone in between- and the owner was on site the entire time to assist and help out. I've recommended this beautiful, funky venue to everyone I know. Finding, booking, and working with this venue was the easiest part of my wedding planning process. Thanks Myst! read more

Whatsup I am Jeremy, I have attended many of the events, this venue is the cleanest most ambient venue in the area. I love this place. The Staff is on point and very respectful not to mention hard workers. Never have I see bad vibes come through the door! Claire is the beeez kneez and Leo is one of the best Entrepreneurs. Being in a business like this is hard and you get people that are upset sometimes with their experience but really they are going through some personal problems and take it out on reviews. Ignore any negative review. I have been to 90% of clubs in SD owning my own Entertainment company, and seeing other venues and this by far is my favorite. Take my word for it and check it out! Catering, to private parties, this is the best, clean, air conditioned and an amazing atmosphere. A must stop for future events! read more

I tried the black tea and prickly pear and the Rose tea. All yummy teas. Very delicious tea. The sandwiches were okay, but the desserts were much better - sweet chocolate, uniquely rich fruity flavor for the macaroons, subtle lemon custard, and thick moist brownies. The sweets were really good and white pretty. I came with 2 5-year olds, and I would recommend this place as a kid friendly environment. read more

This place is a hidden treasure. Part of its charm is that from the parking lot to the walk inside you're transported to a whimsical, Alice in wonderland type scene. It is very well decorated with a dance floor included. The staff is attentive and have clearly had many events in the space. We went to a baby shower here that had a great photo booth, drinking chocolate station and mimosa bar....so fun! Highly recommend this place for almost any event! Especially a baby shower or kids party! read more
