I was a bit disappointed with the size of this aquarium for the price of the ticket and didn't feel that it was worth it. We walked through the entire aquarium in a couple hours and only stretched out our day there by doing a second walk through. They have a lot of touch tank options and interactive exhibits, the staff is very helpful and informative, and it was fun seeing the California sea lion show. I did wish it was less talking from the trainers and more exciting tricks from the sea lions. We also wish there was a 4D show option like the Maritime. The only reason we chose Mystic over Maritime was to see the Beluga whales! Parking is free and there are picnic tables around the aquarium to sit and have a lunch if you bring your own food!

We've been here three times in the last ten years, most recently last week. A quick report: our group included several older adults, and the noise and crowding from the many young children at the aquarium was upsetting, and we had to leave after only a one hour visit. Really, that was out fault: there's nothing unexpected with youngsters squealing and shouting and crying, but it was very bothersome to our little group. In the past we have visited in the fall when few school groups and large families were in attendance, and that was a much better choice. Please bear that in mind if planning a visit. And that said, please be assured the main gallery houses an engaging collection of sea life easily accessed, and the outdoor exhibits of penguins, sea lions, etc, are fun if less so in very hot weather. Also note admission can be pricey, over $50 per adult at certain summer dates. That seems too much to us.

It's always nice to come visit this aquarium. Tickets are about $40 ish for an adult. Depending on what days you visit the prices changes. The animals look happy and healthy and I love coming to see Juno. We notice there was some renovation happening is some of the area on this day. They had to move some of the sea lions. It was nice talking to the care takers of the animals. The aquarium can be walk through quickly but people should take their time reading about each animal. I haven't been here awhile but I see they are findings ways to make more money. I see there is arcade now and other activities for kids. I believe those activities an extra cost on top of the tickets.

We had a great time at Mystic Aquarium! We bought tickets online ahead of time and arrived before opening. There was already a line to get in, but once the doors opened it moved pretty quickly. The biggest slowdown was the photos being taken right at the entrance. There was so much to see throughout the aquarium. My son especially loved the jellyfish exhibit and the water play area -- he had so much fun there he refused to leave. They also have beluga whales and African penguins, which were fun to see up close and hear facts about from the docents. One of the highlights was definitely the sea lion show. It happens every couple of hours, and we caught it right before leaving which ended up being the perfect way to finish the day. A heads up that a large portion of the aquarium experience is outdoors, so we were very thankful the rain held off during our visit. Overall, a fun family outing with plenty to explore!

Great time at the aquarium @ I was shocked to see five beluga whales! They had seals and sea lions and sharks and an octopus. And of course they have plenty of other fish and penguins and other animals. They have plenty of educators all over and answered every question my Godson and I asked! They had plenty of feedings and a sea lion show. Great place to explore and learn!

My friend and I had a great time here! Highlights were for sure the beluga whales and the sea lion show. Special shout out to the jelly fish, so mesmerizing!! It was bloody hot when we went but I was grateful they had 2 water foundations one inside by the sharks and one outside by the belugas and penguins.

Mystic Aquarium is a genuinely well put together attraction that earns its reputation as one of the better aquariums in the Northeast. I found the layout moving between indoor and outdoor exhibits in a way that kept the visit feeling varied, and the whole place was clean and well organized throughout. Staff were present at each exhibit and knowledgeable enough to add real context to what I was looking at, which elevated the experience beyond just walking past tanks. The beluga whales are the centerpiece and the clear highlight of my visit. Watching them interact with staff during feeding held my attention in a way that a lot of aquarium exhibits simply do not. The reef tanks were colorful and lively, and the jellyfish exhibit was worth slowing down for even though I tend to move through these places quickly. The sea lion show was entertaining and well executed, though it moved at a fast pace that skewed toward younger kids. I enjoyed it, but it is worth calibrating expectations around what it is. Pricing is reasonable for what you get, and the annual pass makes strong financial sense if you are within driving distance and plan to return. Concession prices inside run high, so eating before you arrive or bringing snacks saves you money without taking anything away from the visit itself. A penguin encounter is available as an add on and worth looking into if you want something more memorable to build around. I planned for a few hours and had enough time to move through everything at a comfortable pace.

I love this aquarium!! I love sea life, especially sharks! They had a decent amount of stuff about sharks, and they had some nurse sharks, epaulette sharks, and some other white one i didn't know sadly. I pet a bunch of cow nose rays in the petting area apparently they really like me! I also got a shark plush and a shark ornament here, and i really wanted this national geographic shark book but i only had 39 dollars left and it was 22, therefore i wouldn't be able to buy my mom a birthday gift later. We watched the sea lion show, I didn't realize it was for little kids but it was still super fun! They definitely seemed like they take care of them very well because they had a lot of free range and allowed the sea lions to take breaks if they needed it! Anyways, loved the aquarium, come here for sure! Forgot to mention I came here twice, so that makes it even better!

Outdoor and Indoor aquarium, so dress appropriately. The bathroom in the jellyfish/turtle area isn't very accommodating for handicapped people so plan ahead and have someone help you. The arcade area needs to be paid by everyone even if you don't plan on doing anything we only pre purchased tickets for our boys. Very small venue but we enjoyed the sea turtle exhibit and learning about how they were rescued and cared for.

A life-long RI'er, I finally made the trek 'all the way' to Mystic to make my first appearance at the Aquarium. It was a fun time. The aquarium is a fun time, and although on the small side is well worth your time. A combination of inside/outside exhibits, the museum has speakers at a few of them telling you about the animals/mammals/fish. The sea lion show is the most campy, tongue-in-cheek, fun time I've had in a while. That alone was worth the price of admission. It was a good way to spend a mid-winter day.

    Shahané M.

I came to the aquarium with my family to take advantage of the healthcare promotion. With the promotion we paid $75 for 6 people and without the promotion, just to pay regular price would have been $129 for 4 adults and 2 toddlers. It's very overpriced and you go through the aquarium within 40 minutes. We purchased tickets a head of time but we still had to wait in the long line to get in. The aquarium was very crowded and it was hard to see all the animals without people blocking the view: I also wish they had some kind of system for the crowds walking through the aquarium, not to mention maybe having another lane for just strollers which took a lot of space.

The Mystic Aquarium is one of the best aquariums I have ever visited! It may not be the biggest, but the animal husbandry is exceptional and the volunteers are super knowledgeable. The work they do for our local marine life is unparalleled. This spot is fun for all ages! I prefer to go in the fall and winter to beat the crowds, but any time you go will be lots of fun! The admission price is a little hefty, so a membership is absolutely the most cost effective choice if you plan on visiting more than once. You should absolutely go into the ray touch-tank tent and spring for the food! The rays were SO active and engaged with us after a little shrimp snack. Pro-tip: always say yes to the entry photo; you get a digital copy for free and you can choose which background you want!

I came here during a family vacation and my whole family had fun. Although the aquarium felt a bit small, it had what we came for, an abundance of aquatic life. They had an amazing seal lion show that was interactive so the kids were not bored. We live in NYC so getting a membership wasn't exactly what we planned, but if you plan to come back more than once, a membership definitely would make sense. We ended getting one and came back 2x during our 3 day vacation to Mystic area. We went in August and the aquarium does get hot, but you just have to step inside and cool off. There's a nice gift shop at the end when you leave. Would definitely be coming back here in the near future.

Do any outside exhibits close after November for winter?

Some exhibits are still open during the winter especially in November since it's really not that cold yet. I believe January/February would be the time of year for an animal to be off exhibit because of weather. You can most definitely call ahead on…

How long does it take to go through the aquarium?

Would it be fine to go if it's raining?

It's fine to go if it's raining but I recommend going in nice weather because there is plenty to see outdoors as well. We went on a very rainy day and although we were still able to walk around outside, it was not ideal.

How much is it to get in?

Adults $36.99 Children $26.99. There are some features like the 4D movie that costs extra. I think there's a slight discount if you buy the tickets online too.

How long does it take to go threw the aquarium? Sorry another question how much does it cost to see the sea lions or is it part of the admission?

Having just come in from that same direction, I was well aware that the stoplight that we initiated by pressing the crosswalk button is right around a blind curve. I made sure that the first car actually stopped before I started through the crosswalk, but just as we were almost to the other side, I heard a huge crash that shook me to my core. We turned around, still partially in the street to see that a vehicle that had come around the corner was unable to stop in time and smashed into the car that was stopped at the crosswalk. Luckily no one was injured, but the sound and the proximity and the fact that there was some sort of lingering feeling that our crossing the street caused this accident put me in a really bad headspace. We stayed out in front of the museum for a while to make sure everyone was okay and the cars were moved out of the street but there was debris everywhere and I did have to sit down at a picnic table for about 5 minutes to calm down. All that being said, we actually enjoyed this Museum quite a bit once we got past what had happened. We have visited multiple Maritime museums in the last month and I can honestly say this was probably the best one. If you're at all interested in Maritime history, or just history even, sailing or boat craftsmanship, anything like that really, you will enjoy your visit here. This is not really a museum in the traditional sense. It's kind of like walking through a village in time. You can wander through historic buildings and watch live demonstrations of traditional skills like blacksmithing or rope making or sail stitching. Don't be afraid to go inside the buildings and interact with the employees. The immersive parts of this Museum are the best because they help you to feel like you're really experiencing what it was like instead of just reading about it. I think my favorite part was getting too board and tour a historical boat that was moored in the river. I don't recall what it is named, but you can board and walk around and even go down below deck. You can really get a feel for what life was like on one of these boats. I'm 5'7 and I had to duck the entire time. The beds were so tiny it was as if they were for children. It's crazy to think of grown men being packed down there like sardines. We also enjoyed checking out the lighthouse. They show a little movie inside but you can't actually go up. That was a quick stop and a little photo op but fun nevertheless. We ended up spending a lot longer here than we had anticipated because we really enjoyed the demonstrations and the historical feel of it all. It was dog friendly which is important to us but we also found a little reading room and a nice playground area so I know it would be great for children as well. Even after such a rocky start, I was really glad that we visited here and I highly recommend a stop if you can. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours here and wear comfortable shoes because the ground is gravelly and you will cover more of it than you think.
