This is by far my favorite beach in Rhode Island. It such a sweet spot near Dave's Coffee and has the nicest, cleanest, beach. The only downside is you do have to get here extra early for parking because by 9:30 (especially during high season) the parking lot gets full. I highly recommend carpooling and coming in a small vehicle. Makes your chances of finding working even better. There aren't any nearby places for food or drink so pack a cooler and bring it over with some snacks. No dogs allowed during peak season. Must pay for parking. They take credit cards. Lifeguards are available in certain parts. Very quiet beach and a perfect spot to come relax in the summer. read more

Looks like a beautiful beach!! Although we visited in November, my partner thought it looked 'quaint'. I'm sure it doesn't look the same when it's loaded with beach goers!! The parking lot is pretty small so I'm sure it fills up quickly. I'm not sure what the facilities are like when the beach is open, but they have one old wooden structure there...not all the new buildings and pavement most of the RI beaches have (quaint?). read more

I found myself at Blue Shutters Town Beach on a beautiful October afternoon, soaking in the sun and dipping my feet into the deep blue waves after walking 80 or so miles to get there. That's right... 80 miles. I started my trek in the northwest corner of Rhode Island and followed the North South Trail, walking the entire length of the state, with the goal of reaching this location. What a beautiful place to end a traverse of the Ocean State. The dunes of sand are soft and vast; the beach grass adds a feathering of green against the crashing white foam and rolling sea. The picaresque landscape at this beach allows visitors a sweeping view of the sand that drops off into ocean for as far as the eye can see. It was clean, lots of room to socially-distance, and a pleasure to visit. Given the time of year it was far too cold to swim so I can't comment on that but the natural beauty of the place bowled me over. In researching the location ahead of time, I was dismayed to hear that parking was going to cost $20. My husband was scheduled to pick me up at the end of my trek and though we were willing to pay it, we knew our visit was going to be short-lived. I was pleasantly surprised to discover there was no charge though; I presume, given either the time of day or year. The lot is very small but at the time of my visit, there were very few people as well. If you are ever at this beach and you see a very weary looking traveler decked out in hiking gear making their way to the water... give them a little cheer for they've walked a long way to get there! read more

We were planning to go to East Beach next door, but the lot was full. We ended up at Blue Shutters Beach which still had parking available around 9:45am (our mistake for running so late I guess). The parking here was substantially more expensive than East Beach next door ($20 on a weekday and $40 on a weekend vs $6 at East Beach) but we were already here so stayed. The beach is beautiful and the water is clean. The size of the waves was good too, not too big. I do think the disparity in parking prices is extreme, but considering this is a town beach and the one next door is a state beach, it is what it is. The lot isn't large by any means, but it's larger than the one at East Beach so you'd have a better chance here, I guess. With that said, I wouldn't turn down a visit to Blue Shutters in the future. read more

Awesome beautiful town beach! I can not believe I waited 38 years to go to this beach. The sand is clean, the water is clear, the waves are huge, and a decent amount of parking. I was advised to get there early as we did at 8:45am. Got right onto the lot at 9am. Cars were still coming in around 11am with enough parking. Not sure if it was because it was a weekday. Fees $20 weekday and $40 weekends. They do accept credit card or debit cards and charge a $2.50 service fee. Bathrooms are clean and there are outdoor showers. Can't wait to be back! read more

I travel from another state and will pay the extra money to be able to have parking close to the beach, but especially like having bathroom facilities available. It's also nice to have Del's Lemonade there in the afternoon as well as the little lending library if you need a book. read more

This beach was so nice. Not crowded on a Saturday like missquamicut. Parking was tight we paid 30. The waves were on a different levels. Rough but love it. I would not bring my kids there just because the waves were so rough. read more

This is one of my favorite beaches in all of Rhode Island ! It's beautiful the beach is pristine, clean and gorgeous. The only downside is they don't have a snack shop if that's something your looking for in a beach. It's your picturesque New England beach. Just an FYI they have limited parking so if you get there past 9 on a weekend or holiday weekend your going to be SOL. I love this beach!! My husband and I were on our way to East Beach and kinda lost our way and stumbled upon this gem!! It's a little pricey to park (among all the other beaches I've been to) but as far as the beach itself it is BEAUTIFUL!!!! The sand is so soft and very minimum rocks! The water is always clear when I come! The beach is super clean as well!! The restrooms are always super clean!!! There's nothing bad to say about this beach!! It's never crowded like most beaches I've gone to! It's hands down the best beach I've been to in New England!! There is not any concession stand here however, they do have a hotdog stand and a dels lemonade stand! So pack a lunch if you plan to stay the entire day! read more

The cover however was super expensive the state beaches are only $7 on the weekends...this cost $20 to get in. The parking lot is a nightmare to get out of!!! The beach was pretty but very rocky. Beautiful and quiet private beach in Charlestown. We went on a weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. Can't vouch for weekends and holidays but it seems as if this is less public than a lot of other destinations. The beach was immaculate and even had a conveniently located restroom that was clean. The waves were rough for my toddler but I assume that's due to all the precipitation that's been stirring but overall she was able to find a lot of shells and overall as a family we were able to relax and enjoy the sun. If you plan on staying I'd definitely pack a picnic because there's no food or beverage offerings. I thought $20 to park was a bit steep but whatever. I definitely will return. read more

I'm a relative newbie to RI and have been slowly making my way to the various beaches this fine state has to offer. This year we headed further south for a beach day, we had planned on going to East Beach since a poll of our Facebook friends pointed us in that direction but the lot of East Each was full, so we went back up the road and paid an extra $5 to park at Blue Shutters instead. Parking is close to the beach area so you don't need a pack mule to get all your crap to the water's edge and the facilities were clean, as was the actual beach as well. But I wasn't a fan of the steep drop off to the water, unless you were sitting on the crest of the hill you couldn't see or really hear the waves crashing on the sand. I like a more gradual decent into the ocean, the sharp angle also made walking along the beach a little awkward. Then once you got in to the water it got real deep real fast, went from knee deep to over my head in a few steps. We still had a good beach day and for a Wednesday it was not overly crowded but I think I will seek another location next time. read more

Great fine sand. Come early as this lot starts filling up between 845-9am! Price is too high, 30 bucks. As other people have said on here and trip advisor the beach has trash all over it. What NO ONE mentions is there is a slope to go to the water and the water is right there! It's basically a mostly relaxing beach that's over crowded from New york people (new york, new jersey, and Connecticut folk). Not trashy like other beaches or people blaring teenage music. People get right on top of you though. The water is mostly clear and beautiful but very rocky watch out for that. The water goes from two to four to 7 feet fast. Waves are very strong and rough....watch your kids and yourself haha. All in all great non trashy beach mostly family's and solo single people lying out for sun rays. read more

One of the best beaches in RI! I will always prefer QEBA Private, however this one is almost just as amazing. The only downer is there's a lot more people than QEBA, but there's still a lot less people than the state beaches more northeast. And a better crowd. Also, the salt pond is right across the parking lot, where the water is warmer, there is a lot of marine life (horseshoe crabs) and it's a great spot for kids. read more
