Ed is such a great teacher and I highly recommend him! He's totally worth the money. I'm a 35 year old student who never had a license and was extremely nervous behind the wheel. Ed made me feel at ease after the first couple of lessons. He was always punctual, and always replied to my texts and phone calls within the day. He is also very kind, pleasant and encouraging. His parallel parking method is really the best. When I didn't pass the road test the first time, and wanted to take my next one on a weekend, he was very helpful and connected me with a nearby school. I noticed that some reviews complained that he doesn't answer phone calls immediately BUT as a student, I really really appreciated this. I've been with instructors who were always on the phone during the class, which is very irresponsible and unsafe. Ed never answered the phone during my lesson, and I so admire and thank him for that! read more

I never write reviews but I felt the need to write one for this driving school, if I could give this place zero stars for their customer service I would. I've been struggling to find a driving school to take a refresher class and a road test. When I kindly emailed this driving school asking if I could possibly do that with then because they have good reviews, they didn't answer my question and rudely said to do it with the driving school I went to. When I emailed them back April 15th explaining why I didn't want to do it with my old driving school, they never emailed me back. I'll insert screenshots of the emails. There is a lot of stress that comes with being a first time driver. I wish I found Ed earlier on my quest at driving. He is calm, patient, aware/observant, straightforward, and encouraging at the same time. Ed taught me more in two days than I was taught in two months (by a different instructor). I had severe anxiety for YEARS over the whole driving thing. By years, I mean 15, give or take - but who's counting. And by severe anxiety, I mean actual therapy to discuss my driving fears (one of the most important things I got out of the counseling sessions was this: even though you may have anxiety over something, anxiety is not an indicator that you can't do that something). SO, I had made due with taking the T to where I needed to go - work, grocery shopping (buying only what I can carry!) - and the graciousness of my mum, girlfriend, friends, and sister. I'm sure they're just as thrilled as I am that I've now got my license. I needed someone outside family/friends who was willing to provide private lessons (I didn't want a 16 year old observing from the backseat), patient (not that my family/friends weren't - it was just less anxiety-provoking for me this way), and really attentive and calm. The reviews on the other local driving schools made me cringe. I didn't want my instructor talking on the phone, distracted, nor would I appreciate being yelled at for messing up - I'm a sensitive soul with legitimately no driving experience! A condescending, unprofessional, instructor? NO THANKS. Anyhow, I digress - my point is that driving for me was a terrible, anxiety-provoking, issue until Mystic Driving School. After several lessons over a 4-week period (to the day), I passed my road test on the first attempt! Ed is very patient, informative (always offering clear instructions and tips), personable, and always had a very flexible schedule - he even sponsors the road test. Prices are pretty fair, too. I took about 5 driving lessons with Ed, who also took me to take my road test (I passed). Ed was extremely informative about the whole process and helped me understand exactly what I needed to do at the RMV, how to book a Road Test, and what forms I needed to bring etc. During the lessons, Ed was patient, professional and encouraging at the same time - he never answered calls or talked on the phone. He taught me exactly what I needed to do to pass the test (parallel parking, turns etc.) and also answered any questions I had. At the end of the lesson, he lets you know what you can improve on and offers insight on what road instructors look for during a test. His car is in great condition and is equipped with an instructors emergency break. Additionally, when I asked if I needed additional lessons the week prior to my road test, Ed said he didn't think so and was confident in my driving abilities. If you're looking for a honest driving instructor who is straightforward and won't overcharge or trick you into paying for more than needed - you're at the right place. I just passed my road test in the first attempt and I highly recommend Mystic Driving School to anyone who is looking for a good driving school. Ed is an amazing teacher! He is calm, patient, extremely knowledgeable, and will never yell at you or make you feel bad about any mistakes. He has really good techniques for parallel parking and 3-point turns! I can do it in one go just by following what he taught me. He teaches you to be safe and a very responsible defensive driver, and helps you gain confidence in any driving situation- be it highly trafficed roads, pedestrians, bikes on road, just about anything. He will prepare you well, not just for the test, but for your regular everyday driving. He never answers any calls during your lessons, so he is fully focused on teaching you. If you're trying to book a class with him, he might not answer your call if he is in a lesson with someone. But he will call you back. He is very punctual and reliable. For the test, I went with him and we reached Watertown earlier than the test time. He let me drive around the area for a while, getting a sense of the roads, signs, and the speed limits. He then gave me a pep talk to boost my confidence! The test went very well for me. His car is nice and in a very good condition. He always sanitizes his car before any lesson! He always wears a mask and is extremely safe and responsible COVID-wise. His rates are $75/hr and are completely worth it. What you're getting in return is an invaluable life skill taught by the best teacher in this area. read more

I took a 2hr lesson with Ed before my road test, as a refresher course because my original driving instructor (from a different school) was not available. I have to say I learnt more about driving in those 2 hrs compared what I was taught in the 6-7 classes that I took previously elsewhere. Ed is very patient and calm and went over the rules and expectations of a road test with me over and over again. I don't like leaving negative reviews, even when I feel they are warranted, but in this case I will leave one. I had a lesson with Ed last year and he became unresponsive after I contacted him to schedule another lesson. I texted him at his cell number, so I'm sure he received the request. Now I can't say for 100% certain the reason why he didn't respond back, but I got the impression that it had to do with a mistake I made at the end of the lesson that put him off. I also wondered if it didn't also have to do with him being partial to who he accepts for lessons. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I gave it another shot and contacted him again to request a lesson for parallel parking help, and again, no response whatsoever. Honestly, I'd rather a person just be upfront and say "I'd rather not schedule you for another session" or just tell me SOMETHING rather than being uncommunicative. Looks bad. read more

He is very attentive when you drive and pays close attention to your mistakes and tries hard to correct them. At the end of every session he gives you a summary of things you were improving and the things you need to work on which is great. I took about 6-7 classes from Ed and passed my test the first time itself. Ed is experienced, hands-on and very patient and calm. Patience is the biggest virtue one is looking for in a driving teacher. Even if you make a mistake, he doesn't let you lose your confidence. He's professional and punctual. He's very busy so try and schedule classes in advance and try to stick to it. I didn't really need so many classes but it was a personal decision so I could practice more. But no regrets whatsoever as it got my license in the end! read more

Ed is a wonderful teacher. He has a great car, is patient, on time, and very understanding. I had been driving in France but had to take the tests here to renew my Mass. license. Ed understood the difference in driving practices between here and Europe and helped me to overcome some instilled reflexes. Ed arrived over an hour early before the test, I drove there through rush hour and then we drove around the course, so by the time of the test I was comfortable with the car and the course. I had had a terrible experience with another inspector so was concerned. Ed could not have been more professional, clear, demanding of perfection and explaining everything. read more

Ed is a great teacher, and in just a few lessons taught this nervous adult driver enough to pass the road test AND feel comfortable in the driver's seat. His only downside is that, as others have commented, he does not respond to calls/texts when he is busy, so you need to be stubborn to get (and stay) on his schedule. But once you are, he is reliable and punctual. He doesn't try to upsell you lessons, teaches you what you need to know for the road test, and encourages you to practice with other cars. I was really impressed with how professional, friendly, and well-prepared Ed was. I'm a foreigner who drives in her home country, but who had put off driving in the US for 8 years. Because I don't go home that often, I didn't drive much in those 8 years in my home country, either. I finally got my act together, had two lessons with Ed, and passed the road test. He provided me with lots of tips, related to driving in general and also specifically about how to pass the test. I would recommend him to first-time drivers and experienced drivers who want to get a license in Massachusetts. Importantly, he corresponds with text messages, which made my life easier. I went directly to his office but he provided me another number to text him but yet no reply. He might have some students today but if this is the attitude he won't have a single one to learn from him someday. I do see why mystic driving school gets 5-star reviews. The one time I was fortunate enough to drive around with Ed, I got to see a good and patient teacher. (I am an adult driver who was looking for a couple of lessons to regain confidence in driving in the city). However, after this first lesson I never managed to arrange another one. He never replied to my emails, text messages or voice mails asking for an appointment. Here I was thinking that I had done something wrong, because I couldn't explain his behavior in any other way. It is therefore 'good' to read that other people (Salija G.) receive similar treatment from this driving school and it more likely has to do with Ed and co. being overwhelmed or realizing that they won't be able to sell the whole 'package' (i.e. with theory lessons in the classroom), then with me/us, the students. I am insulted by this treatment and I wouldn't recommend this driving school to anyone as they cannot be trusted with providing lessons (which I believe is their main job). read more
