I thought this was a very good spot. It competes with so many good similar restaurants in the area BUT it has a full bar. The menu is large and while I think there is room to explain more of the dishes for those who are not familiar, I think overall it is a good spot for the novice Indian food goer. It was not busy for lunch but service was good and the food came out hot and quickly. I was with some novice eaters, so multiple Tikka Masala's hit the table but they all enjoyed what they ordered. Located in the former Bombay Grill, Mystic Spice is beautifully decorated and spacious. I was surprised to see it so empty when we arrived but perhaps that was due to it being right before a holiday weekend. I had seen rave reviews about the naan. So I made it a point to order some. It did not disappoint. The naan had a delicious smoked flavor to it. I ordered the goat vindaloo. You can choose from three levels of spice and true to form I went theory the hottest. The goat was very tender. The serving was large and I had to take half of it to go. Some minor criticisms that did not impact my rating: the amount of basmati that comes with the meal is disproportionately small compared with the entree. $4 for raita seems a bit excessive. There were a few bug issues - they need better pest control (might just be because of summer and thankfully it was just a beetle and a couple flies that were flitting about). At any rate the food was outstanding and I plan to return again soon. read more

So, we were searching for a new restaurant to try, and found this one - so we immediately planned on eating here. We reached quite early, I guess just minutes after its opening, so we were perhaps the 2nd table to be filled. Our server was a familiar face (we have seen her at other Indian restaurants in past). We ordered chicken lollipop for appetizer after server explained how the preparation is (we've tried something like that in India and wanted to give it stab, knowing that this is more North Indian preparation I was really hoping lollipop is like how I'm thinking it to be) - and sure enough, it was tasty and how I expected it. For entree curry we took servers recommendation and it was traditional curry that was really tasty. We also ordered aloo paratha for my toddler, we asked for it to be more home style so he doesn't refuse eating it. While paratha was good, I was shocked it was just 1-piece for that price. We also ordered noodles - it was nice but not the best indo-Chinese noodles. Onion kulcha was very tasty. Owner was nice, she saw our toddler needed entertainment so she brought some crayons and sheet to color - very thoughtful! Masala papad was tasty too. I experimented their mango lassi cocktail and it was funky - haha... I won't order it again, but if you are like me and curious, go for it. We came as a group of 10 for a birthday. They sat us by the door and there were 2 other doors nearby that were not in use but still produced a cold draft. (It's November). We kept on our light jackets and wished we could have been tucked back further into the restaurant. We asked for different seating, but they refused even though we were the ONLY people in the restaurant at the time. The guy said "We set it up there." I had the lentil dumplings called Bhalla Supreme for an appetizer and they were good. However, I did not like them bringing it AT THE SAME TIME AS MY MEAL. Be sute to make it clear that you want your app BEFORE your meal. It seems many Indian places are doing this, so sometimes I won't give them my entree order until they bring out my appetizer. For my entree, I got the lamb korma level 3 and it was also good. Spice level is 1 to 3. 3 was at the top of my spice tolerance. If you can't take very hot, be safe and order level 2. We sampled chicken tikka and chicken lollipop. Highly recommend the chicken lollipop. It was crispy and flavorful. The mango lassi was served in a tall, thin glass and was very good. A friend of mine from India got the chole at a level 3 and it was too spicy for her to eat it. I forget the name of the bread she got with it, but it reminded me of an elephant ear you get at the Fair without the powdered sugar. For dessert we had mashed/ pureed warm spiced carrots with almonds. It was very good. Our waitress was pleasant and the owner is very nice. An 18% tip is added for groups. We had no trouble splitting the bill individually. read more

I went here tonight with a group of 12 co-workers for dinner and had an amazing experience! We ordered several appetizers plus main courses and shared everything around the table. The service was equally amazing and they recommended several choices for us which were all absolutely delicious. Several people in our group are from India and they all loved the food as well. I have eaten at several Indian restaurants around the country and this one is definitely one of the best I have tried so far. I live in Seattle and am here on business so sadly, I can't come back any time soon. If you live in Charlotte, you must give this place a try! read more

I recently visited this place, a week after they opened. I was warmly greeted by the waiter, who was very helpful and quickly took my order while recommending the sunrise mocktail drink, which was nice and refreshing. As far as the food, I ordered the standard butter chicken, since this is a Punjabi-owned restaurant, I figured that would be a safe choice. The butter chicken gravy was tasty; however, the chicken itself was quite firm in texture. This could be improved. The complementary rice is nice, but adding a little bit of cumin or some flavor could certainly boost it. Overall, it was a nice experience, and I especially appreciate the slightly elevated ambience . A lot of Indian restaurants miss the mark when it comes to ambience, but this one definitely has a nice vibe, not too formal, not too casual just right. read more

All I can say first is I want to go back and eat here again today. Our whole family loves Indian cuisine. We try every indian restaurant. We loved and ate the food so fast no pictures really. I started with a Salted Masala Spiced Lassi which was over the top. Basically, every Salted Lassi I have had before has had salt and cumin, this was an entirely different recipe of spices, with a fresh cilantro leaf on top. I literally could of dipped all my food in it, however their food was so good, it barely needed the chutneys that came with the food. Something for everyone, thankfully lots of vegetarian choices and plant-based. Home-made tasting Paneer, like nothing you have ever tasted before. Try everything, all the various Gobi, the Dal variations were amazing. The Naan was outstanding. Service was an A+. Go early, they fill up fast! read more

Chicken was tender and the palak paneer was some of the best we've had. They give large portion sizes (great to share) and we ended up taking home plenty of leftovers. I was kind of disappointed in the dish...there was hardly any chicken in a big bowl of sauce! I even said something to the server and they just shrugged and said that's how the dish is. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner the other evening, as we both wanted to try something different. We both got the chicken tikka masala, mine was mild and his was super spicy. They also were able to accommodate my nut allergy and removed the cashews from my dish so I could still eat it. We had the chicken tikka masala along with rice and garlic naan, cream cheese naan, and bullet naan. It was such a delicious meal that was incredibly filling and had such rich flavor. I also ordered a cosmopolitan and it tastes amazing as well. The ambiance was very relaxing and calm, and was overall a great experience. Definitely recommend this place as a nice cozy dinner spot. For entrees we had the Butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, both were delicious. We both had mild spice level and for us that was perfect, a little hint of heat! The food flavor was the best I had among all Indian restaurants in Charlotte I dined at Mystic Spice a couple of weeks ago and I liked the nw look and decor of the place (as it occupied the space where the old Bombay Grill was) and I ordered the veggie samosas for the appetizer and butter chicken for the main course and the flavors of the food were excellent and the spice heat level was perfectly good I also had take out orders since then and overall the food was great however I do recommend eating at the restaurant as you would get to experience an excellent meal with an exceptional service read more

The dahi bhalla was rock-hard, with the edges cut off--possibly because it was old and dried out--and it was also topped with onions. The saag didn't taste like saag at all was a green odd tasting slurry and the paneer had a sweet, cream-colored gravy that felt very off. Overall, the entire meal was very different from our first visit. Perhaps the presence of the owner closely overseeing the staff affected things. We checked in @ 7:40 PM didn't get food till 9:20 so have to leave without eating food. Horrible Experience. We tried this new store to see if it lived up to the older Bombay Grille, it does not. We checked in and were seated at 7:30 PM, we received our Paneer Appetizer at 8:30, 1 hour after we ordered. The food portions were low and not very high quality. For 17 dollars, it was not worth it. The worst part is that we waited until 9:30 PM without getting food at all, this was a shared issue. People also stated they were there for 2 hours the food dit not arrive at all and it's not worth the wait. DO NOT GO . Or goto during lunch if you want to eat dinner . read more
