Love Unique! I've been going here for ages and they have everything from clothing, to home goods, to collectibles. Any time I need something niche, Unique will have it. The pricing here is utter insanity! I've been coming here for a feeling years now, and while proces have always been a bit stupid, this last visit is going to be my LAST! I don't expect a business to give things away, obviously, they have to make money. But pricing things at double and triple what they're worth sounds like a bad business model to me. Chinese paperweights for $29??? Lmao! I've been a collector and dealer for over 25 years. I have a pretty good idea of what things sell for. Nearly everything I looked at here was at least double what it could be bought for on Ebay. I can't imagine anyone with at least 1 brain cell paying these prices. Was in the area and stopped at this thrift store. It is large, has just about every item imaginable (clothes, infant articles, jewelry, books, movies, glassware, and shoes). The location has staff, which are constantly placing items back in their respective places. I also noticed, that they have a lot of self checkout stations. Couple a bxtches that work over here at this thrift. Every other unique location has been amazing and I've never had an issue. These workers here hunt you down at every aisle you're at and if you're sorting through things and set down clothes for just a second on a rack , NOT leaving them there, they scold you and tell the other ladies and sigh in front of you and get allup in your business. When you go to check out they act like drill sargentos like they're runnin the military when it's just a checkout. Never had a sweet worker here EVER. I was visiting my friend nearby and had an hour to kill, so I looked up thrift stores near me and found unique which was a very pleasant surprise! When I arrived I noticed how huge it was, theres a giant section of women's clothing, a big selection of men's clothing, and a smaller selection of children's clothing as well as whole other side of the store which is dedicated to home goods, books, furniture etc. The entire store has to be the size of a football field, totally not exaggerating. Anyway, there was a lot of amazing finds here including brands like Coach, Calvin Klein, Carhartt, north face, free people, Michael Kors and more. Also, there's a big sign on the wall that says which color tags have an additional percentage off which was awesome because every single item I picked out had an extra discount. I purchased three shirts that all came out to 2.50$ each which is the cheapest I've ever seen, and one of the items was a brand new tank top from target! The quality of the clothes was great in my opinion, some things were slightly damaged or looked used, but it was very few items. I've been to many thrift stores where half of the clothes are things that should've just been thrown out but not here, they definitely inspect what they put onto the floor which I appreciate greatly! During my visit I also noticed the large selection of purses and shoes which again were in good condition. I also picked up some books that were all priced about 2-4$ each. I saw a lot of current titles like "The Woman in Cabin 10" and other books that were popular in recent years like "Gone Girl," so the book section is definitely a good place to check out! I can't wait to return to Unique in a month or so and see what new treasures are there to find! read more

I have visited less than a handful of times mostly because my daughter loves to thrift shop. The first few times we were treated like shoplifters and were very closely watched while I was scanning my items, maybe 2 nice employees I've meet here, sadly the rest are rude. Today was the last straw for me as I be home my items and started to remove tags to throw them in the wash, a pair of mens sweat pants I purchased here has a huge streak of poop!! The store is what you would expect the thrift store to be prices seem fair for the items there. The problem is the staff these people must hate people they have to be the rudest group of people I have ever seen in the retail world I don't know what the reasoning is, and it wasn't just one. There was no friendliness whatsoever. Frankly, I was about to walk out. I guess you get what you pay for and I hope these people aren't making very much money. We went in, the alarm went off as my friend came in as they had recently shopped there and they forgot to take off their security tag. This feels like the only reason this would have happened. We shopped and that was fairly normal but when we went to check out they were basically up our a**es. They later searched my and my friend's bags and then proceeded to accuse me of taking items and then not only double charged us but ALSO took any discount off the items I already scanned. They ended up charging me almost 3 times as much as my items already were. The thing is, my friend was watching me scan everything and I paid for the total amount including discounts. My friend and I are very not white and they were threatening to call the cops and I was worried they would be believed as an establishment despite the pricing evidence. This MyUnique store is my favorite by far! I would give it an A+ on unique treasures. A solid B on prices and friendliness. A C- on cleanliness, but overall it's a great thrift store. I've found amazing things there, and I never leave empty handed. The employees are always stocking shelves, and don't seem to hate their job (as other thrift store employees do) I wish it was closer so I could shop there regularly. read more

Great place for finding clothing (both men's and women's), knick knacks, audio and video, books, etc. Join up so you get emails/texts that tell you the 3 colors that are discounted each day. They change them every 3-4 days. On holiday, all are 50% off. Prices are decent. You may want to wait for something to be further discounted, but you are taking a big chance it will be there the next day. Things go fast and they restock all day long. Profits are used to help people with Lupus. I also go to their stores in Union and Watchung. read more

Unique is one of the best thrift stores I've ever shopped in. It's clean, organized with a great selection and good sale days! The down side is....checking out. It's all self checkout and you will be stared down like a lion looking at a steak dinner! I understand shoplifting is an issue but not EVERYONE is a thief. If it's such a problem then they should revert back to staff run checkouts. Generally speaking, the staff is pleasant but there are several women that are positively nasty and rude. I used to love this place, but now it's super hit and miss, and the prices are insane! I recently went in to kill some time after dinner with my boyfriend, and noticed how everything was prices super high. They had work in shoes for 30 dollars that retailed for 45, dresses in the high 20s and low 30s, and they claim theres never anyone around to discuss prices with. They treat you like a criminal as you shop. I recently bought a cover up that I ended up paying above retail price for!! I have to do my shopping on half off days to get actual thrift store prices. As a collector myself, Sure, some vintage clothing has some value but whoever is pricing their stuff has absolutely no idea what their doing. They need to take "thrift" out of the name. Thrift heaven! Yes this is one of the largest used shit stores I've ever been to and if that's your thing you'll love it. Scrounging for a deal whether it be a flee market, yard sale, rummage or army/navy or in this a case a thrift store is always fun time for me and my fam. Someone else's junk is anothers treasure holds true. Whether it be vintage or the difficult to find to the very old, I'm always up to the task to see what bargain can be found. Organized row after row of tagged and hung clothes, shorts,shirts, coats & hats from all seasons and styles for women, men & kids in one side of this huge open floor. Shoes of all sorts for all. On the other side the domestic wear. Furniture of every type of course, appliances, tons of coffee makers, TV's, toys, books upon books, vinyls, and odds & ends thrown in along with the kitchen sink. There's plenty of clerks to offer advice or point you in the right direction. Whether I pull the trigger on a bargain or not is beside the point. Always cool just checking out all the stuff, finding an item you want or need is a bonus. A 4 rating due to the lack of true vintage ware. Yep if you didn't guess I dig thrifts and this particular store is one of the bigges which typically translates into a whole lot of junk, in a great way. read more

4 stars in comparison to other Thrift Stores I guess. I bought a bar here that is the focal point of my loving room. People always come over and immediately gravitate towards it. Even when it's booze free. After a little bit of elbow grease it's the best $8 I've ever spent. Recently I went and bought a coffee table for my basement, but the back latch of my car got stuck and we couldn't fit it. I understand no refunds or exchange....but shouldn't that apply only if you've left the store. They offered to charge me $25 bucks to hold it an extra day and I could come back, but being that I only paid $10 for the table that seemed crazy. I left it. I don't buy cloths here unless it's for like a one time and burn thing. Costume party etc. I'm not to fond of wearing pants other people have farted in. I can't even wrap my head around the idea of having an underwear section. Sometimes you can find good records or some Nic Nac's. I collect Decanters in case anyone cares. I will Return. read more

Best selection in central NJ, but their dressing rooms have been closed for 3 years. When I asked why, they said it was due to COVID. It's been 3 years and no other "covid precautions" are taken in the store. There's no reason dressing rooms should not be open. This place is a wreck. I get that they are catering to the under privileged looking for a deal, but I think they are taking advantage. Ties were $12.99. You can buy new ties cheaper at lots of places. If you only shop here, thinking this is where you get the best deal, you are getting screwed. The electronics section is a joke. Its filled with electronics no one wants- VCRs, fax machines, rotary phones. Its all just junk. I was looking for dvd's... only ever found a small section of kids movies. Great prices, everything is pretty much 4.99 or 5.99 on brands including but not limited to J. Crew, Pacsun, AmazonEssentials, etc. Products are also in near perfect condition as far as what I purchased, but the products available are offered mainly for much larger waist sizes. Much more female oriented, so definitely a more valuable trip for them. They also sell knickknacks, DVDs, China, etc. Also extremely clean for such a large place and staff know how to take care of items and customers beyond even retail customer care. I walked out with four shorts for 19 dollars total, leave myself, my closet, and my wallet without a doubt satisfied. read more

I have shopped at South Plainfield for years, over time, I see the quality of merchandise decline and the prices rise. Really look over the merchandise. The staff w/ exception of the woman w/ the bad back usually at Register area, is very rude. I was given a credit slip as there electronic scanning system wasnt working at first. I came back to use it and they refused to accept it. I waited 30 min. to talk to a manager (Staff refused to get him) and he was very unprofessional and rude. I have donated a total of 3 box trucks upon getting a post card in the mail sent by a Vietnam Vets organization. A Unique truck came and picked up the donation. I was very upset and when I called Unique to ask why Unique not the Vets were picking up, the person said the donations will go to the Vets. She said the price tickets are labelled differently. This is the 3rd time I've been to this location and I will not be back. I was checking out in the self check out and this cashier was standing incredibly close to my mom and I as we did so. She was so close I couldn't even step back without bumping into her. It was clear that she was making sure that people weren't stealing, which I understand, but there was no reason for her to be on top of us the way she was. The Black woman employee on the other side was doing just that, walking back and forth, watching, but not hovering. I eventually turned around and asked her if she needed to stand so close to me. She just looked at me and then said "what'd you say?" and I said it again, "do you need to be standing so close to me while I do this?" She went down to the woman next to us after that, but then she came back watching us intently. Funny thing is, the woman next to us actually needed her help and was having a rough time checking out. She was too busy hovering over us to actually do her job. I've been to different Unique thrifts in Elizabeth, Union, Watchung and I've never had anyone on my back like she was at a self-check out. I wandered into Unique after a trip to the buffet next door. After walking past the clothing section, my friend and I discovered the second part of the store that has household items (anything from cookware, furniture, electronics etc). If you take the time to look- you can really find some great deals. We saw coffee tables in there for seven bucks. I bought Trivial Pursuit for $1.91. My friend found a baby gate for her dog for $3. It definitely takes some shuffling through the items, but there are some good finds! So I went to ring up and decided I didn't want one of the items (it happens). The cashier called over I guess the manager to enter in the code to remove an item. The "manager" comes over, says she can't deal with all this "moving around" and that she will choke the next customer she sees. I guess if you do go here, make sure you don't run into this lady! read more

When it comes to finding a needle in a hay stack, this is the place. Rather than a needle, it's more like finding a gold coin in a giant bag of dirty pennies. I love it there. There is a huge selection of everything from clothes, shoes, electronics, video games, random pieces of furniture, bags and art. They've definintely got something for everyone and the prices are very very fair. They have lots of promotional days (Which aren't the most fun because of the craziness, but if you shuffle through, the discounts are worth the hassle). If you're just looking for somehting fun to do, and don't want to unload your hard earned paycheck, but still want to get some cool stuff unique is the place for you. The only reason I give it four stars in stead of five is, the workers are usually, unfriendly, and even sometimes downright nasty. Just hold your head up high with respect, and give them a bit of a dirty scowl when they try to give you a hard time, and they usually tend to leave you alone. Fun times at unique! read more
