The office is not technically advanced and won't take ownership for mistakes, although to their credit, they only made one major mistake worth thousands of $$$s in the three years I worked with them. I have used Nancy for my taxes for a few years but I recently received a letter from the IRS for an assessment on my 2012 taxes. After some investigation, I found that Nancy had filed my taxes, but excluded income from one of my w2s, which I had sent to Nancy and Dede on multiple occasions. It took forever on the phone explaining basic outlook functionality to help the office staff find my email with the missing info (they FIRST denied that I ever sent it to them, but how would they do my taxes without my files?). After acknowledging they made a mistake, they tried to blame me for not noticing the mistake in my taxes when they sent me the final version (the reason I pay someone to do my taxes is because I'm not an expert). I don't pay myself to do my taxes. They also tried to charge me for the refiling fee to correct their mistake, but later offered to do it for free. THANKS! Looking back, there are many other times occurrences that should have sent me running. Nancy may have bad eyesight, which isn't a problem, but when I sent over an excel sheet of expenses, the office staff kept asking me fit the excel sheet on one page, since they were changing the view size to 300%+. I explained over the phone how to resize the view on an excel sheet, but I ended up having to send over a PDF with everything one page. These are basic Microsoft Office skills that I hope any office staff would have. Currently, I have an IRS penalty of thousands of dollars, and after requesting they cover the penalty with no response, they offered to pay half, by their logic I was half at fault. That's not someone I want to do business with. I originally felt like leaving one star, but two of three years they did my taxes I didn't have major assesments, so I gave them two. read more

As a former auditor for the Dept. of Defense, she is an expert in navigating the labyrinth that can be taxation, compliance and audits. She has more credentials after her name than I can list here. Nancy Allen is so much more to our family than just a world class CPA. She is our friend who has done an exceptional job with our taxes since we came to California in 1992. She understands all facets of the business and gives exceptional advice on how to more efficiently manage our affairs. First, I am not a big fan of YELP, sorry!! YELP seems to be a forum that allows anyone to say anything without any double check on bias on the accuracy of what's posted. It feels bad that someone can have a moment of displeasure and post comments that can so adversely affect a business. It seems MUCH more honorable to address any problems with the person or business you are having the problem with instead of tattling to the world. If we were all subject to such scrutiny in our personal lives for every action, we would all be miserable. That said, feel free to apply the same skepticism to my review. Super surprised by negative review for Nancy and her staff. I personally don't choose my tax preparer based on their Microsoft skills, but instead chose based on decades of tax knowledge, something that Nancy has. I am a big fan of personal responsibility and yes, I rely on the professional doing their part, but I too have to do mine. Nancy has done my taxes for decades and my taxes are not simple. I have foreign income, many K-1's, all with many pages of documents. Over the decades I have been nothing but please by the personal attention and the honest, true desire to what's best for me. I can't count the number of times that Nancy has brought to my attention something that I have forgotten or not thought of that has saved me thousands of dollars in taxes. I feel confident in Nancy's work and have NO hesitation in recommending her to others. In fact she must be doing something right as her schedule is booked a year in advance, all with repeat business.
