I've ridden BART plenty of times before. Usually it's crowded, sometimes a little grimy, but it gets the job done. This time, though, I was honestly surprised. The SF International Airport station felt clean, organized, and surprisingly calm. Maybe was because it was Saturday? Who knows. Either way, the whole ride felt easy and peaceful -- a really nice way to head home after an emotional airport goodbye.

I am not alone either, as others have praised it for its Brutalism. The style is not one I favor generally. The Embarcadero, which isn't even pure Brutalism, displays its flaws. It is deliberately off putting and inspiring of human distress. Or if not intentional then with reckless disregard of the needs of most persons for an assurance they are welcomed and valued. The architectural school, however, is enjoying a renaissance because of how it photographs. The massed concrete and simple forms look great and even profound rendered as social media squares the size of thumbnails. The discipline is evident. The John Wick like commitment to a vision more or less indifferent to emotional yearnings for a sense of community. If you have any interest, then, in seeing a magnificent example of the maligned movement, this is worth a stop. If you are a street photographer, it is a half hour well spent. But if you are just commuting back and forth, it is another station in a vast system. As they go, it performs its function. A work friend was shocked to learn people review anything other than restaurants on this platform. I regard it as a good use of Yelp to do so. Perhaps this will help out an aspiring architect or a photographer with this interest.

Colma is my favorite BART station to park at and take the train into the city coming from San Jose…read morewhen I don't want to take public transportation all the way from the South Bay. The parking garage is big and always has a multitude of spots, oftentimes right across from the station entryway which is conveniently directly attached to the garage. Take a short escalator down and you're right in the center of the station. It's 10-20 minutes on BART into SF (depending where you're going) from Colma, avoiding city driving and expensive parking without having too much of a ride in and back. On the weekdays parking is $3 through the BART app (prefill your car information to avoid getting held up) and free on weekends and holidays. Relatively clean and easy to navigate station. There's a machine you can purchase Clipper cards at or refill your card without hassle, check the fare calculator but for a non-discounted ride to Civic Center in SF it's $4.50 at the moment one way. Red and yellow lines frequently stop here, though you will have to transfer at another station for other lines. Just an all around nicely maintained station that I recommend especially if you are parking and riding into the city and are looking for an easy experience.

Fridays less people go to work less of a rush there. Reserved parking on the first and second floors become available after 10:00AM, if your job allows you could plan to come later in the morning to get those parking spots (which are closer to the BART entrance too). Lots of bird poop in certain spots, so beware! Be careful around the turns, you might not see a car coming from the other direction. They do check for parking/payments often here. I see them checking cars often in the mornings. Word of advice to the BART parking checkers though...don't check cars in a parking section that isn't full yet since people are still pulling in. Once I got a ticket maybe 45 seconds after I parked. I paid for parking 30 seconds after the ticket was given to me. (I didn't see it until the evening). It was just annoying that I then needed to spend my time to fight the ticket. Get a EZRider account so you can pay with Clipper Card. If the parking garage fills up the Samtrans parking lot is across the street, also for $3. They accept credit cards as well. Longer walk to get to the station but at least you got a parking spot! ATTENDANTS The attendants are very pleasant and always willing to answer my random questions about parking or losing an item! BATHROOMS Often 1 will be out-of-order. The other bathroom exists for emergencies but the last 2 times I went there was no soap :( THE STATION Also a lot of bird poop recently. On weekday mornings trains to SF come every 7 minutes, so you're never waiting for too long. If you go one more spot North (Daly City) the trains come even more often, but their parking lot fills up way too early. Depending on what train you catch, you may get a seat. In the 8-8:30AM time range there is more people. By 9:00AM you could get a seat in the Antioch line, but maybe not the Richmond line since a lot of commuters get on the train in Millbrae. LOCATION Good location directly off the 280 freeway. Cheap gas stations nearby. In&Out nearby.

I did have to wait for a very long time on the line at the turntable to go back to California though... might have been about a 30 minute wait, but once we were riding on it back to California St, everyone on the car was cheering & having such a great time. The cable cars are iconic & they're a must do when you are in SF!! *** Friday -,My experience riding around on the cable cars today was so much fun but I actually didn't get to ride on this line until later today! A stop at the top of Nob Hill is just a block away from where I'm staying, and so we bought a day pass ($15) because we figured we'd be able to ride the rails at least twice. here were a lot of people waiting to ride, and several cars passed us by because they were too full, so we ended up crossing the street and taking a different and less crowded line which didn't take us exactly where we wanted to go, but we were able to connect to the F line and get to our destination. We were able to pick up a car on this line at Union Square and it toted us up the hill to California Street. It was a short & bumpy, but fun ride. So I'll leave a review for the other line as well. They went down the stairs, escalators, and elevators. The journey to the center was a quiet one, one of reflection, and one of solitude. It was a time to reflect on life, the history and meaning of the station, the magnificent feat of engineering, and the groceries or nom noms bought from the ancient city within the city, the historic landmark, the national, and frankly global, treasure, that is SF Chinatown. True to human form, a testament to perseverance and endurance, elderly folks were also making the long journey up the long staircases. Just like what you see on the characteristic, steeply graded slopes of SF's iconic hills, there were elderly groups making the trek up and down. The wait time was short, and the station was clean. It was very well lit, and it seemed like a very long descent. It felt safe too with security features everywhere. It was an enjoyable experience going through the station with all the arts displays and historic relics on display. It did speak to the hardships that our families endured or worked through in the old factories that used to be there. Our community has a voice; these are very important points in history that should not be forgotten or lost.

It is a bit of a walk even with the escalators that I used.
