I followed each step of their process, including an initial cleaning, xrays, a fitting appt, and an additional cleanings - all separate visits they required before moving forward. On the day of that appointment, I encountered unexpected traffic and called ahead to let the office know I would be approximately 15-20 minutes late. I was told that was not a problem and was rescheduled for another time that same day. However, shortly afterward, I was informed that the practice no longer wished to have me as a patient. This was extremely surprising and disappointing. I was told I would receive a referral to another provider, but I never received any follow-up communication. What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of communication after my dismissal from the practice. I had to send multiple emails requesting my dental records before receiving a response. When I finally did hear back, there was no acknowledgment of my questions, no explanation regarding my treatment status, no referral information, and no guidance on next steps. The response consisted only of a code to access my records. There was no discussion of continuity of care or any clear exit plan to help me transition to another provider. As a result, I am now forced to start the entire process over with a new provider after investing significant time and effort into meeting Elite Dental's requirements. I trusted this practice with my care and was committed to moving forward with treatment. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled felt unprofessional, lacked basic patient communication, and left me without the treatment plan I had spent months working toward. When she likened scaling my teeth to "scraping barnacles off a boat" I knew that I'd never return again. Why would she feel the need to shame the patient? But it got worse. The hygienist was really ruthless in her cleaning. And just when I thought she'd finished, she said, "That was the first pass. Now I'm going to go back for the second pass." Why was she not doing it right the first time? Never have I been to the dentist and had such a painful and debasing experience. I stopped her before she could polish my teeth and "teach me how to floss and brush my teeth." I am 37 years old, with a mouth full of teeth....I think I've figured out how to do those two things by now! I was already annoyed at the administrative side of this practice as they require you to pay for services upfront and then you have to collect reimbursement from your insurance company. This is inconvenient as then you have to take a check to be deposited, but it also points out how over-priced Portnoff's practice is as her fees consistently exceed the allowable deductions. My family will be finding a new dentist and I caution yours against going here.
