We think we will be treated with care, respect, honesty and compassion when something comes up. Am i wrong? [TL;DR ---- cavity turned into root canal within 1.5 wks. wanted credit to root canal (about 45 bucks). office refused in a shady way] Alafaya Dental Care was recommended by a friend of mine. ACTUALLY, it was more like 4 friends. If 4 for your friends go to see the same dental office, you would think, "Wow, I guess they are doing a great job!". Well, maybe I'm the outlier but hear me out. I confess. I was one of those that didn't have insurance for awhile so I didn't have the opportunity to see the dentist a lot and thus, I got some work to do on my teeth. I understood I would be spending a pretty penny on my teeth after neglecting for awhile . My first visit here -- I got my treatment plan for cavities and some deep cleaning. Cool Cool. Schedule me. My second visit -- Alright one side of the teeth was scaled and planed and a cavity was filled. A deep one, I was told. My third visit -- (about 1.5 wk after my 2nd visit) more cleaning and hey Doc, my tooth hurts on the cavity that was a deep filling. Doc says, okay *taptap*, it look likes it needs a root canal. I'm thinking over here, wow, ok, I'll bite the bullet since it hurts like a mutherferrrr. Then I was thinking wait a minute, I DID PAY for the cavity which she filled a week and a half ago (out of pocket, maybe 40-50 bucks at the most, rest was by insurance). I kindly asked the front desk lady, would it be possible to have my cavity payment applied to my root canal since I had just got it done? Literally. She's wavering and not knowing what to tell me, but says something to the effect like, it seems reasonable but let me ask the doctor. She goes back there and says the Dentist can't be reached WHILE the Dental Assistant that was in the same room, comes out and scribbles "no discount" on the my treatment paper, and slides it back to the front desk lady, WITHOUT acknowledging me. The front desk lady flips over the paper but never tells me if they were able to apply the credit. OKAY.... That was a Tuesday. Thursday comes around and I called the office. Another front desk lady answers the phone, I explained to her the exact situation of how I needed a root canal after 1.5 wks of filling and I just want a credit of what I paid for it. She didn't think like I was crazy or psychotic for asking and said it sounds logical but let me ask. I call again that same day to get the answer and the lady that checked me out last time and schedules me all the time gives me the answer. The answer was No. She says the discount cannot be given and in her exact words, "the work was performed". She assured me she had ask the dentist and that was the dentists choice. After that phone call, I contemplated of getting the work done by them further but I REFUSE to go back there. I no longer want work to be done on my teeth by people that cares more about 45 dollars than a patient that they want to see further and really care about. To quote what I said earlier, I am looking for a doctor that treats patients with, "care, respect, honesty and compassion when something comes up". This dental practice did not follow the personal qualities I'm looking for. They made me feel dumb and was not being honest when they already decided what they were going to do. The 1 star was for the hygenist because she seem genuinely nice and cared. The office was also clean, 2nd star. [TL;DR ---- cavity turned into root canal within 1.5 wks. wanted credit to root canal (about 45 bucks). office refused in a shady way. Office clean. Hygienist nice. 2 stars]

As a registered nurse who works long hours in procedures and has a tight schedule due to being on call, it is very challenging to make the time to care for my own health. I called and made an appointment to establish care with Dr. Chapkis. At first, I was told I could wait to see him after my cleaning. Then, I was told he was too busy to see me, but I could see someone else. Finally, I just made the decision to leave when I was told I would be seen by Dr. Chapkis at my next visit (so, maybe in six months???), a statement not guaranteed, because if he has higher-paying customers, like those needing crowns, your first visit and cleaning are not a priority. I want everyone to understand that your time matters and you, as an individual, matter even more. No one can force you to see a doctor or dentist you did not choose. Imagine if I told my patients on the day of the procedure that their surgeon would be someone else and that was their only choice? I am my patients' greatest advocate, and you always have a choice. When you are made to feel like your time doesn't matter or you don't matter, do what is right for you. Tomorrow, I will get up at 5 a.m. to serve my patients, and I pray that I never make a single one of these lives I serve feel like their care is not my top priority.

I have been a patient of Dr. Castro for nearly nine years and was always satisfied with the care I…read morereceived until recently. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years my experience has changed significantly, and after my most recent visit I have decided to seek care elsewhere. About a year and a half ago, I was told I needed a dental implant and received a quote from Dr. Castro's office that was extremely high. After getting a second opinion, I had the same implant completed by another dentist for $3,000 less. During that visit, the dentist also identified an infection in my upper right tooth. Six months later, during a routine cleaning with Dr. Castro, I asked him to check that area and was told everything looked fine. However, at my most recent visit two weeks ago, I was advised to get veneers on my four front teeth and whiten the rest of my teeth. I was also told the office would bill my insurance for crowns instead of veneers so that part of the cost would be covered, which raised serious concerns. Because of these red flags, I returned to the other dentist for another evaluation. I was told I do not need veneers and that whitening would be a more appropriate option. Additionally, the infection in my upper right tooth is still present and will likely require a root canal. Since it may have gone untreated for over a year, there is now a risk the tooth could need to be removed. In addition, the atmosphere in the office has changed noticeably. While the staff is friendly, the frequent loud chatter and laughter create an unprofessional environment that was not present years ago. It is disappointing to see such a decline after so many years as a loyal patient. Between the pricing differences, questionable treatment recommendations, and concerns about quality of care, I no longer feel comfortable continuing treatment at this practice.

This is at the Orlando, FL location near UCF with Dr Nguyen Nguyen My college age son missed his semi-annual cleaning at home, so I thought I did my research by finding a good dentist near UCF (who was rated well with our dental insurance no less), where he could just get his teeth cleaned and keep up to date, until his next visit with his usual dentist back home. I was informed in advance that as a new patient they would be taking full x-rays. WELL, my son called me immediately after the appointment, to tell me he was all done and checking out, and scheduling to get SEVEN cavities filled. What, Wait, Rewind!?!?! I told him to stop right there, do not schedule anything, and have those new x-rays emailed to us. So fast forward, his dentist at home squeezed him in when he was able to get home for an evaluation and review of the x- rays they took. His current dentist (who he has seen since his first tooth) had to take new x-rays because the ones provided by Magnolia were sub-par. And as I expected, he did not have even ONE cavity, and his dentist said he teeth looked exactly as his last appointment approximately 9 months ago. And fortunately, not only was his dentist was just happy to report that he had a clean bill of health, but he sent my son on his way without charging him a dime. I really couldn't believe it when my son said SEVEN cavities. That is insane! After I finish writing this review, I will be contacting my insurance company to let them know of the sub-standard service offered at this location by this dentist, and how I really feel like they are taking advantage of patients who are gullible and essentially scam them. To leave on a good note, my son did feel like the dental hygienist did a good job cleaning his teeth.

I would give zero stars if possible…read more I originally visited this dentist because I was experiencing severe jaw pain, facial pressure, and distorted vision. I was genuinely concerned that I had a serious tooth issue causing these symptoms. X-rays and an exam were done, but I was told there was nothing wrong with my teeth. Despite that, I was referred to an endodontist anyway, which I paid for completely out-of-pocket. The endodontist confirmed it was not a tooth problem. Because my symptoms were continuing and worsening, I made the decision myself to go to the emergency room out of concern that something more serious could be happening. I underwent an EKG, CAT scan, and was even transported to the hospital for an MRI. After all of that, I was released with no answers. Following advice from a nurse practitioner at the hospital, I returned to this dentist requesting a referral to an oral surgeon for a TMJ evaluation. The dentist refused, stating she didn't think I had TMJ, and provided no further guidance, suggestions, or concern for what was clearly an ongoing and serious issue. I eventually sought out an oral surgeon on my own and finally got answers. The cause of all of this was nighttime teeth clenching/grinding (bruxism). The strain on my jaw muscles had irritated the trigeminal nerve, which was causing referred pain, pressure behind my eyes, and even vision disturbances. This could have been identified much sooner if the dentist had actually listened to my concerns and considered clenching/grinding as a possibility (which there was apparent evidence of). Instead, I went through unnecessary specialist visits, emergency testing, hospital bills, missing days of work, and weeks of stress -- when the solution was ultimately something as simple as a mouth guard. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone. Patients deserve to be heard, taken seriously, and guided appropriately when dealing with potentially serious symptoms.
