Bring a cooler if you don't live close by. Be prepared for cuts of pork you've never seen before in a store. Its not a huge store in comparison to a grocery, BUT for pork only its big....and it is literally 98% pork. So several kind of rib cuts, a whole front side of a pig, fresh shoulder of varying sorts, fresh hams. Bacon, Country ham, breakfast and bulk sausage, chitlins... just lots of pork. Cool thing is its across from some pig pens so it looks like they actually slaughter and butcher right there. Ain't nothing else nearby, so put gas in your car, and good luck! read more

There's no accidently finding Nahunta Pork Center, you have to be going there. If you are driving around and you start seeing billboards, put it in your GPS and go. It is a large grocery store with every pork product imaginable. It has an old grocery store vibe. There's a smattering of North Carolina products available, a tiny section of pork apparel. Just the necessities. One day I was fortunate, they were handing out samplers, it was a tiny pork sampler and a small soda. I couldn't believe my luck. Best tip is have a cooler with you. Remember that scene in "Deliverance" where Ned Beatty is face down in the woods, buck naked, and the nasty backwoods guy kept yelling at him to "squeal like a pig" as he performed his misdeed? I'm not sure what made me flashback to that horrific moment in cinema except when I entered the Nahunta Pork Center and saw the pig's head staring at me from the refrigerated section (photo: http://bit.ly/1Iqe8JD), it made me want to squeal like a pig. But in a good way as there were miles of pork and assorted pig parts to satisfy any carnivore without a shotgun (photo: http://bit.ly/1JCC4Lu). We don't have a refrigerator or a stove either, so much of what is sold here eluded us unfortunately. If I was near my kitchen in San Francisco, I would bring an empty cooler like some smart local did and stock up on pork for months. Jamie W. and I had not planned on coming here, but the regally crowned, happy-go-lucky pig on the billboards along Hwy 70 kept beckoning us. I recalled the episode of "A Chef's Life" when chef Vivian Howard came here and found her beloved Tom Thumbs from her childhood. We were told it tastes like stuffing out of a Thanksgiving turkey, and since they weren't giving out free samples, we bought a slab for the road. He was right. Gobble gobble. Opened in 1975, the entire retail operation has been run by the Pierce family who certainly know their way round a pen. After all, they do all their own slaughtering and processing on the property. It's a place for the pig lovers who likes to buy in bulk but also for those just picking up a few things . I've heard so much about this place and finally my husband an I decided to just go . It's not a huge market it's decent but it's very clean. And you can tell the meat is fresh fresh you can see the workings packing meat while you shop and you can ask for help if looking for special cuts etc. the prices are fairly cheap compared to the local grocery stores and you get much more. I got a pack of chips for $8.67 and to my surprise it had 13 pieces in it. I also got some fresh sausage and some smoked they are on the lean side so it can get a bit dry if you cook them to long overall great store especially if you love pork and have a deep freezer. read more

The staff here are very helpful in explaining the different products and helping you find what you want. They tend to be more knowledgeable than the staff at the State Farmer's Market location. The Farmer's Market also runs out of the fresh sausage pretty quickly, but that's not an issue here. If you've never had Nahunta's country link sausage, you've never had sausage! read more

Nahunta has the best link sausage! Both, hot and mild are tasty. Mild has a good kick to it but if you like it hotter, go with the hot. Their link sausage is seasoned and taste's exactly the way my parents use to make their link sausage and bulk sausage. read more

Friendly staff, reasonable prices. I am a born lover of pork because our family raised pigs. I also love chitterlings, but I don't think I'll be purchasing any more from this place. I like my precooked chitterlings clean and these were not as clean as I prefer them to be and although chitterlings do not have a pleasant smell at all, these had a horrible smell and was full of crushed pepper, but I loved the barbecue, and the sausages. read more

My bf and I were on the way back from Raleigh last Saturday and we saw a billboard for Nahunta. I have always wanted to stop there so I was like a two year old ' can we stop, huh, huh, can we, I wanna stop, please honey, please can we??!!' You get the idea... So we take the exit off 70 and we drive, and drive, and take the turn then drive some more. (think South of the Border) Now, the billboard some how gives the false impression that you turn off 70 and BAM there it is!!! Not so. So after a while we think we hear banjos strumming. Now I am getting 'I told you so's' from the bf when suddenly, after turn #12 and mile 15, it appears in the distance!! Now you know without a doubt what it is, this place is HUGE. I'm squirming in my seat as we approach saying 'oh this is too cool, I've wanted to go here FOREVER!!' The parking lot is suspiciously empty. The sign said open until 3:30, it was 4:00. DAMN!!!!! I ended up here on a Tinder date (true story... long story). I was unfortunately not in the market for any pork on this particular day, but my date and I kept getting bombarded by the billboards on our way to Goldsboro and we had to check it out. Indeed, the Center has a lot of pork - more cuts than I knew existed. You can even get an entire hog's head. I'm glad to see that nothing is wasted here. We purchased one of the few non-perishable items: pork rinds. There were two choices: white and brown. My date is a Yankee, and I'm from the Midwest, so we didn't really know what we were buying. We tried to snack on the brown ones later, but couldn't even bite into them. They just tasted like rock hard lard. Overall, I was hoping for a more festive atmosphere. It's a very serious place. But if I'm in the area again and I can immediately go home after I'll bring a cooler and at least get some bacon. read more

It's not often that I get to North Carolina, but I do I try to get fresh pork for those back home. Hands down, the best pork anywhere! You can't get it any fresher. They have absolutely ANY cut of pork that you could ever want, and the best pork prices by far. It is a little out of the way, but it is so very worth the trip to Nahunta. Do yourself a favor, and right before you check out, pick up a bag of fresh pork skins. Wish the retail store hours were more worker friendly. I love all of nahunta's products, the owners are good people. With that said, something has bothered me for years. I'm single, work 6 days a week and have for nearly a decade. And I simply can't purchase anything because of their hours, and because they close on Sundays(my only day off). It baffles me why they don't keep the storefront open until 7P.M or so on weekdays so people who get off work at 5 can get there. Closing at 5P.M as a retail operation baffles me.(not to mention closing a retail store on a Sun) And Like I said, I love everything From Nahunta. Growing up I ate something from nahunta 2-3 times a week, and every holiday ham came from nahunta. Before my current job I ate nahunta products once or twice a week. When I can manage to sneak out of work a few minutes early I'll try and swing by before they close. But Last week I got off a little early, tried to get there, and was 7 minutes late(for about the 50th time). Thats when It finally hit me, I just have to give up on nahunta until my hours change, or their hours change. And My hours aren't changing anytime soon. read more
