Needed some groceries and a Yelp search produced this Harris Teeter as the closest supermarket. I…read morehadn't been here before and was impressed by the wide selection of products available and the good customer service. I picked up a VIC card at Customer Service and only had to wait a couple minutes behind another customer. Registration was fast and painless - I was prepared to answer a slew of tedious questions, but all the associate needed was the basic info off my driver's license. First stop was the produce dept, which has an amazing variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. My guinea pigs thank you for the very large, fresh and crispy heads of Red Leaf and Romaine Lettuce! The deli area has a wonderful selection of meats, sauces and dressings, and especially cheeses! I love it like a rat and will definitely return for more! I didn't buy anything in the bakery but was sorely tempted by the coconut cakes. (Next time for sure!) There were delicious cakes, bagels, doughnuts and fresh breads on display. The meat market is excellent and has an impressive inventory of seafood! Now I know where to come for fish and seafood. The deviled crabs (which weren't on our list, but were irresistable) were yummy. The dairy department is one of the best I've seen in Wayne County, with a wide selection of milks, dips, cheeses, yogurts, eggs and such. Whatever you need, they probably have. Same for the frozen foods. The grocery aisles were easy to access, which is great if, like me, you sometimes (or always) use a wheelchair. Again, the variety of choices is excellent. Prices were a bit higher on some items than than Wal-Mart or Food Lion, but the atmosphere is very pleasant and the store is clean and has well-marked aisles. Checkout was wait-free and our checker was a very nice young lady who got us rung up and sacked up quickly. We really liked this store and we will definitely be back for more.

Carnivores realized early on that they needed a place to meet, to socialize, to press the flesh so…read moreto speak -this need lead to the development of the butcher shop. The butcher shop meets the same needs today, just not as social in nature, and the packaging has changed, as have the prices. This neat place is indeed a country butcher shop, with little personality, and completely void of charm, but offers some very nice, very interesting meat products, as well as the stray veggie or two - like Cabbage Collards, offered cooked or raw. Much of what is here is of the pork persuasion, but beef and chicken are also represented -there is even a cow at the top of their roadside sign. But the pork products rule, in variety and level of interest. There are whole Country Hams hanging from racks in the middle of the shop, and slices of ham packaged in the refrigated, display area. They have Bacon - regular sliced and slab; Sausage - fresh country breakfast sausage, smoked sausage, old timey air dried sausage - regular or hot. Also packaged slabs of Liver Pudding, Souse Meat, Side Meat, Smoked Neck Bones and Ham Hocks, and even fresh Cracklings for your cornbread. If you like pork products other than Eastern NC BBQ, you should give this place a shot. We were actually on a multi-restaurant road trip when we ran across this place - pork leading to pork - Life Is Good.

Pork Craclings - put them in cornbread and even Yankees speak Southern, albeit in a twisted kind of way.
