Despite marketing themselves as "luxury" and "elevated" living, the reality couldn't be more different. 1. Bait and Switch Tactics: I was initially quoted a 12-month lease with a $500 move-in discount. After applying the same day as instructed, they suddenly changed to a 13-month contract, clai ming the discount only applied to longer leases - information never mentioned before and not on their website. When I pushed back with documentation, they reluctantly honored the original offer, but this dishonesty set the tone for our relationship. 2. Filthy Apartment Despite Promised Special Cleaning: I disclosed my autoimmune condition and severe allergies weeks before moving in and was assured additional cleaning would be done. This was completely false. Upon move-in, I found: - Layers of dust covering surfaces - Debris in sinks - Rust, mildew, and mold in bathroom areas - So much dirt and debris that my vacuum needed emptying after just one cleaning 3. Completely Uninhabitable Due to Paper-Thin Walls: I'm reasonable about noise in apartment living, but the structural issues here are beyond acceptable. The walls and floors have almost no sound barrier. I purchased a decibel reader that confirmed noise levels from neighbors' normal activities (TV at regular volume) exceeded Michigan's 50-decibel noise violation threshold. The sound transmission is comparable to construction plywood. 4. Management Refuses to Address Problems: When I reported these issues, management- - Offered to move me to another unit (waiving their $700 transfer fee) while admitting all units have the same structural problems Suggested I might "adjust" to different neighbors who might be quieter - Avoided my calls or directly answering my emailed questions for over a week - Had office staff repeatedly tell me only the property manager could help, yet the manager remained unavailable 5. Other Units Just As Bad: When shown alternative units: - They were equally filthy - Some were even more downgraded than my current unit - They wanted $200+ more per month for essentially the same problems - Common areas were neglected with debris and poor repairs throughout I had to check into a hotel within 48 hours of moving in because the apartment was simply uninhabitable. This property is nothing like what's advertised, and I strongly urge prospective renters to look elsewhere. Current tenants should familiarize themselves with tenant rights in Michigan regarding uninhabitable living conditions.

I have already moved my primary bedroom in hopes the second room would be quieter, purchased silencing earbuds and adapted me sleep schedule to match this complete stranger and yet nothing changes. After 3 years of living here I've got some truth to speak regarding the quality of these apartments and (lack of) customer service with DTN. If you are considering to move her, please, reconsider... Year 1 - The carpeting is gross looking when we move in and we immediately notice the smell of cat urine (likely from previous tenant) permeating throughout the apartment. DTN tells us to deal with it on our own. We use a mix of baking soda and vacuum it up for about 4 weeks. The smell lingers for about a month while we repeat the process. Year proceeds on, but we begin to notice bubbling of the paint on the walls in the hall way and bathroom in particular. Year 2 - We re-up on our lease in July. In August we tell DTN we notice water leaking from the apartment above us in the bathroom. I report it to them. I also report the immense amount of mold developing in the bathroom and AC (see photos). DTN comes into the apartment, removes a chunk of the ceiling, sees black mold and water damage, and leaves the hole exposed for 3 weeks with a fan blowing on it that makes the mold spread throughout the apartment. It would have taken longer than 3 weeks for DTN to deal with the issue had we not threatened to withhold our rent for the month after I had to drive to the property manager's office and speak with her directly. Truly unbelievable because this is a genuine health concern that they seemed unconcerned with. Year 3 - Well, here we are, our last month in this apartment. We chose not to move from the apartment because we only had 1 year left with our graduate programs and thought the worst was over... an incorrect assumption to make. Covid hits, and Michigan is in lock-down starting at the end of March. We had 3 separate power outages over this period that lasted all day that took place in May, June, and July due to equipment failures on the property. The apartment complex across from us had power, the houses next to us had power, but Okemos Village apartments was in darkness. Mind you, because of covid-19, my wife and I had nowhere else where we could go to access internet because of the shutdown. Food rotted in our fridge and we had to spend money out of our own pockets to replace it for each of the 3 times the power went out. We also lost 3 days of critical paid work because we had no power or internet to work from home with. After calling the property manager to ask for money back to replace the food we lost and time we lost from work, she essentially told us "too bad, not our problem." DTN also failed to acknowledge the power outages when they happened which shows a lack of care and concern for the people who live here. I have neighbors with similar concerns and stories with DTN. Each year DTN has steadily increased our rent, as well as our neighbors' rent. This place is not worth the price they are asking. In my experience, they could care less about the little people forced to rent.
