I go here because my girlfriends have been going here for a while. Kim has def gone downhill in the past few years, and I've begun to steer my girlfriends elsewhere. Kim is rude. She yelled at my friend for saying "ouch" to one of her team members and was looking away while she was cutting my cuticles. Of course, she ended up cutting me and got very defensive when I let her know. I felt very uncomfortable and wanted to walk out in the middle of our mani/pedi. The last time I caved into going there (because my girlfriend likes her prices) I was told to wait 10 minutes for just a mani. After 30 minutes I went up to Kim to check in again and she told me to sit at one of the mani chairs. After 50 minutes of my time wasted I had to go. I had other things to do. I payed the meter to just sit there and wait. No one acknowledged me when I said I had to go so I just walked out. You get what you pay for here. Or less. P.S. I have been going to Nails by Kim since I moved here from London 7 years ago. I just read a review that said that they think Kim is rude and I have never been witness to any such thing despite the fact that I am in almost weekly for the past 7 years. I imagine that there are "once in a blue moon" clients who come in demanding immediate service like the Queen of Sheba, which is a shame really, but welcome to Marin... I have witnessed more than one self-important, entitled bimbo walk in (usually quite late for an appointment or without one altogether) who then acts all "put out" by the fact that the rest of the world hasn't come full stop to wait for her. If you don't have an appointment or are very late for one, be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes until you can be served. Nails by Kim is a gem and something of a well-kept secret by regular customers, but I'm willing to share with other nice, unpretentious people. Kim is very polite and accommodating and as a result has many faithful, regular customers and she is very welcoming to new clients. Nails by Kim is amazingly clean and sterilized tools are opened and used for each guest. The cost of a normal mani / pedi is only $25 which is a STEAL. I have been telling her for years that she should raise the price (at least a little) since it has been the same since I moved here! There is almost nothing else in your life that hasn't risen in cost almost every year (food, gas, water, etc.) yet Kim told me that she knows that the economy has been hard on people and she wants to keep her prices low to help people out! Kim's is lovely, the service is great and when you compare her prices to any other place, you know that you are getting a bargain for better service. I absolutely love her place. I would prefer, however, that any "Prima Donnas" go elsewhere so that we regular, loyal customers don't have to deal with them. One of my absolute favorite examples is the girl who was in several days after her manicure to say that she didn't think Kim did a good enough job, but who then wanted Kim to give her a free mani / pedi to make up for it. It begs the question "if she didn't like the job, why would she go back?" Seriously, it's so sad (pathetic really) that people are desperate enough to try to scam something for nothing especially when Kim's prices are already so low. read more

First of all.... JUST LEFT. Have a 5 o clock appointment. Figured eh 10 minutes early we'll go in... Walk in and all the seats are full. Whatever we tell them we have an appointment the chick cuts us off and asks what we need. (What do you think our nails done) "We had an appointment" and she points at my sister and tells her to sit.. ????! Excuse me. Whatever, again, understandable. We tell them well come back in a bit is that fine they say yes even tho they close at 6, they said it. Have a drink grab a quick appetizer come back at 5:40 and the seats are still full, and this lady again gives us attitude! My girls were even thinking about sitting down and waiting after they tell us "you said you would be back and it's an hour after" We say we had an appointment... Honestly it was a hassle. FOUL attitude. So when the girls asked I said no, don't like they're attitude and I won't give them a penny of what I have. Mind you I easily spend 60-80 for my nails with tip. I've never walked out of a nail salon in my life. Get over yourself snobs. Keep your end of the deal and give us an appointment. Consistently excellent work. Friendly staff. Once in a while it just takes too long because they do a little on you and a little on someone else and a little on a third person then back to you and it takes too darn long. But, it's mostly FANTASTIC!!!!!!! Great mani and the pedi comes with a good paraffin treatment and massage, cut, file, and the nails come out looking like a million dollars, They are there when you need them with or with out an appointment although an appointment is appreciated and appropriate. Went here yesterday for a gel mani AND gel pedi. Let me start off by saying I misunderstood others' previous reviews. I assumed it would be $40 for a gel mani/gel pedi and thought "Daaaaaaamn, that's cheap!!! Hell yeah I'll try this place out!" It was really $45 for gel mani/regular pedi (prices have gone up), and gel mani/gel pedi is actually $60. That being said, I still had a so so experience at Kim's. I scheduled a 4:30 appointment a week ago, and when I walked in 10 minutes early, they accommodated me right away, despite several other ladies being worked on as well. An older lady (pretty sure Kim's mom) started wrapping foil to remove my gel polish on my hands and then got started on my pedi. I had to come straight from work dressed in scrubs so Kim's mom asks me if I'm a nurse. I told her, "Animal nurse," and she starts laughing at me and then goes on to tell me how she has never liked dogs because she saw a woman in Vietnam get bitten on the face, then suffer for 3 months and 10 days before she eventually died. I was going to let it go but later another young lady came to finish my toe polish while Mom starts on my mani, and they started clucking in Vietnamese and the only words that came through were an eventual "animuh" and "nurse" and they shared several hearty laughs along the way. I mean mayyyyybe they weren't clowning me but it sure did seem that way and they've gotta know that that's not polite. I was pretty annoyed. The other main thing that bothered me was, similar to other previous reviews, there seemed to be a lot of rushing and rotating. Mom scraped off my old gel with her nails (which I read is frowned upon), cleaned up my cuticles and massaged my arms, but then Kim had me waddle barefoot over to the mani chairs to finish. Being a partial germaphobe, I wasn't too happy about that. I couldn't put flip flops on because I still had toe separators in. Girl #1 started off my new gel, but Kim finished off the last few coats, all while taking phone calls and working on the girl next to me. Kim herself is a nice, efficient multitasking lady. However all of the rushing and rotating made for a much less relaxing experience. I've gotta say, this is only my second time getting gel, first time having it removed. I wasn't a fan of 2-minute UV lights when my last place took 45 seconds (minor detail). More importantly, my gel turned out okay but my pedi is straight up sloppy. This place is cheap for Marin but not as cheap as my cheap self was hoping for. While the pricing misunderstanding wasn't Kim's fault, I will probably not be back anytime soon. read more

I wish I didn't have to write this, but I want to make sure no one has the experience I have had here. I've come here many times in the past. First the pros...Pros: one very nice lady, Jenny Cons: I got the first toe fungus in my life after a pedicure there. Increasingly over the last couple years, the quality of the work has declined. On several occasions, Kim was very rushed and careless on my nails. They were scraped to damage, and the polish was creased by her nail. Not very nice. Not very clean. I would be very cautious about coming here. Can not recommend them any more. read more

The best deal for nails in marin. I've been to some of the fancier places out here and some of the average ones and none of them where any better for paying more. The salon is very clean and the girls are friendly. Kim is very nice but i honestly prefer the other girls to do my nails because Kim goes very fast and missing details sometimes. Jenny did my nails once she was good! I just had my nails done at Kim's! My nails needed to be ground down. I had a gel manicure that needed to come off. be ground down, & have a more natural look.It seems like Marin with all the wealth is a Nail desert. There are not a lot of great places to have your nails done. Kim was a breath of fresh air. She quickly got my small claws looking like nice polished hands ready for an interview for my new job! I just got a deluxe pedicure this morning and it turned out great! Nice selection of OPI colors, very efficient but family feel. Scrub, mud, paraffin, comfortable massage chair. My meter was running low and Kim ran out to throw another quarter in for me. That was very unexpected and nice of her. Priced very well for what was included. Definitely will be returning! I grew up going to see Kim. She was consistently great and then when her business picked up she became curt, rude, and unaccommodating. I made an appointment two days before my wedding for a manicure, and when I got there she looked at me with disgust, pointed to all the people getting a pedicure and in front of everyone, condescendingly said "Does it look like I have time?!" I'm looking for a new salon and tried out nails by Kim. First I'd like to say that they were very pleasant in the shop. I did make an appointment and was taken on time. That's where the positive really stops. This was an assembly line salon service. I've never had nail polish literally slapped on in about 30 seconds. Not one of my nails is shapped the same or is the same length. The polish with so hastily applied that it was all over my cuticles and actually pooled at the sides of my nails. As I was perusing yelp reviews for a place to get a mani/pedi I came upon Kim's so I decided to visit after I had my morning latte. To my surprise when I arrived I was told that she didn't have the time. My jaw nearly hit the floor- in this day and age a business that's turns away customers is unheard of! I secured an appointment for later in the day and I returned. The facility is clean, they sterilize the equipment and have a large selection of colors for both gels and regular manicures. The women are friendly- I didn't get the 'I'm secretly talking about you to your face but in Vietnamese' vibe so that was a definite plus.
