They get 3 stars because they did an ok job, but the people weren't the friendliest. When I walked in, I asked if they did gel (which I later realized I probably should have asked when I called to make the appointment), and I was given a dirty look and told "no, we're a vegan, cruelty-free nail salon." I didn't know that and while it wasn't a big deal that I couldn't get gel, I was taken aback by her attitude. I still gave the place a shot and got my nails done, but I wouldn't go back. read more

This is by far the most well-organized, aesthetically pleasing, clean, well ventilated nail salon place one can come across. And when I state well ventilated I really mean minimal if any of that over bearing salon polish odor. This place designed it right with vents all around. This place gave me AN INFECTION - I was worried when they were cutting my cuticles and skin on my toes in such a deep way that was painful. Sure enough the next day my toe started to hurt and it was infected. This place is really clean and beautiful. The girls here are all really friendly. There's a lot of chairs so it gets pretty packed but everyone always looks well taken care of. The price is good and they always open a new pack of nail filers, which you can keep. The drinks are always flowing. I only got a Mani done here for about $50 but it was a great experience. Just found my favorite Nail Salon in Alexandria, VA. I was only here because I was visiting a friend in Town so a manicure was in order and would never be a regular customer here. Neither care about Andrea V. comment, nor solicitation. If I could, I would rate Nail Saloon a 2.5 stars just for the good location not to mention it is overpriced for the quality. I picked a nice sheer polish for the evening and thought my hands looked nice, but only discovered in the morning how terrible my hands were. It was a misunderstanding about whether my pedicure seat needed to be used. I feel confident now that nothing discriminatory occurred when I visited the salon and I will probably be going back because the pedicure was great. I was also issued a full refund without even asking for one. I had not even considered asking for a refund because my pedicure was great and the issue I encountered had nothing to do with the pedicure itself. I do not usually write reviews, but this visit warranted some time taken to gush a little. Everything about the Nail Saloon is meticulous, hygienic, stylish and thoughtful. The mani-pedi i received is the best I've ever gotten. But really the whole experience was fantastic. the interior is stylish...more like an upscale spa than a salon. For example, the pedicure stations have actual comfy leather armchairs rather than the institutional and ugly ones you usually see at nail salons. Your pedicure is done at a long marble table under a funky chandelier. But it's the small details that impressed me. The caddies that the technicians use to carry pedicure supplies over to the station are all attractive and worthy of pinterest. Same with the manicure stations--completely tidy and pretty: Jelly jars hold in-house mixed scrubs or cotton balls. (Hygiene details are also appreciated: the pedicure basin has a one-time use clear plastic liner. So no heebie jeebies of putting your feet in a basin that has contained tons of other people's toes.) Besides the quality of my mani-pedi, the thing I was most impressed with is that my technician asked if I wanted my ring cleaned. So not only did i leave with pretty nails, my dirty wedding rings got a lift as well. how come no one has thought of this before? I was offered the single use nail file to take home if I wanted. And she wrapped my toes in oil and saran wrap to protect them from the dreaded winter boots I had to put back on. I'm definitely coming back and bringing a friend. This was a really pleasant, spa-like experience. And for a much better price than you would get in hotel spas. (Also i'm extremely perplexed by reviewers who describe the location as out-of-the-way. This stretch of 14th street is in the thick of some of the most interesting bar/restaurant/cafe/boutique shopping scene in the city. This nail salon felt so luxurious, definitely worth the higher price. The interior is beautiful and everything is so clean and pretty. All the tools the nail technician used came from medically sealed packages and she did a really detailed, thorough job. This again made the price feel worth it. Another reviewer mentioned using PrettyQuick app to get a discount. I seriously recommend this too, it's really handy. While I was there the staff chatted a bit with each other and other clients and I was really impressed with how accommodating they were. You've heard it all before: super chic, glam, indulgent, spa-like experience. Amazing company that doesn't want you to have chemicals seeping into your body, and wants you to be able to breath clean air. Huzzah! On top of that, excellent mani pedis which will pamper you while sipping on your beverage of choice*. But there are some definite drawbacks to going here. WARNING: You may suffer from shock at the sheer number of colors they offer. You also may get so relaxed from the foot massage you fall asleep. Not that that happened to anyone I know. Overall, I had a good experience and my manicure has failed to chip in over a week. Unlike other reviewers, the individual who did my service was not interested in chit-chat, she was all about business. Or my vain attempts at congeniality were perhaps too much after a long day of work. It was pretty much a tomb when I was there...chairs will filled, but nobody was talking. Silence reigned, except for the not-your-average-spa-jam music which was one Avril song from being my childhood playlist. So if you are looking for a quiet experience to meditate on the beauty of sugar scrubs, with skilled technicians, this is definitely a solid pick. I went to Nailsaloon for the first time tonight, and I LOVED IT. I went with two other friends, one who had been there before and one who hadn't. We were able to sit next to each other when we got our pedicures done, which was perfect. The chairs are so comfy! You really notice the lack of the typical nail salon smell, which is so nice. I loved the music they were playing in the background (I think just top 40s) but it complimented the salon well. The salon was so clean! I'm sorry I didn't get the name of the girl who did my toes because she was so great. It definitely is on the more expensive side, but the spa treatments you get with your pedicure make it worth it (plus it matches the price of other salons higher packages so it's basically the same anyway). I'm definitely going to come back and have already recommend Nailsaloon to a friend! read more

I had mentioned wanting to get a manicure with my sisters here since they serve champagne and my fiance set it up so that the day after he proposed, my sisters were there waiting as a surprise and he paid for all of our manicures (so sweet!). However, when we arrived, one of my sisters was running late due to the torrential rain and tornadoes we were having that day. The receptionist was really pushy about us choosing colors and getting started without my sister, which I didn't want to do since I wanted her to help choose a color to go with my brand new ring (which had emeralds). However, they forced us to get started, and then they did not have champagne available, which was one of the reasons I wanted to go there. Then my sister arrived and thankfully they were still able to fit her in. The manicurists were great, although the receptionist rushed us and was a little frantic. Then since my fiance had paid in advance for us, I went to check out, and the receptionist told me the total charge we should pay. I said, I thought my fiance had paid? and then she said "oh yes, it was supposed to be a surprise, I forgot". I have to say, the receptionist really brought the experience down for us. What was supposed to be a celebratory and fun surprise ended up being logistically stressful with how we were greeted and treated while there. Again, the manicurists were great. My nails chipped after 3 days. I knew they do 5-free polish (non-toxic) which I wanted, but I expected it to last longer than that. I can't say I'll be coming back even though it is 4 blocks from where I live. read more

Went here for a afternoon during my day off. Got my eyebrows done and the speedy mani. Eyebrows turned out decent but not as good as I would have hoped for $15. The nails looked great until I got back to work, went to wash my hands and the polish came right off. Place is a bit off a rip off. For the $42 I paid, I expected higher quality products to be used. They assured me all pedicures are at a minimum 45 min. So this was just an anomaly. Just stopped here after a yoga class and was happily surprised. This place is pricier than other nail salons in the area, but it was more than worth it. Not only did my nail technician scrub the hell out of my feet, in a good way, she perfectly shaped my nails and gave a fantastic leg massage. And the wine just makes the experience even better. This was my first manicure experience so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I wanted to treat myself to the full experience and really loved it. The 50 min breaks down to about 20 min of massaging/prepping, 15 min painting, and 15 min dry time. They had a good selection of colors, beautiful salon, and the staff were nice! The front desk lady even helped me get my card out of my wallet so I wouldn't mess up my nails! :) Next time I will probably only do the speedy mani because I don't like walking around with the oil on me afterwards, but as a treat yo self experience it was definitely worth! read more

I really wanted to like this place. It's super stylish and I love that you can book appointments online. Unfortunately the manicure leaves a lot to be desired. It's expensive, it takes forever, and it just does not last. And the most recent time I went my manicure lasted less than 12 hours!! super super frustrating considering I paid so much money. I was going out of town so I couldn't go back and ask that they fix that two nails that had completely peeled off. I had to go get a new manicure on the first day of my vacation. Annoying. And worse when I got there the girls were embarrassed that I paid so much - they kept saying they wanted to move to DC and that they could make so much money. I'd like to say I won't be back, but the truth is they have no competition in the area. So I may find myself there again... hopefully they get the message and provide a better quality manicure for the price of their charging. read more

*LONG POST WARNING* This was my third time getting a mani/pedi at Nailsaloon, and overall, while the ambience is nice, something seems a bit off. The first time I went (on the strength of other Yelp reviews), the nail tech did not speak to me, except to give me directions. I asked for polka dots on my ring finger, and she tried, but she had no idea what she was doing. I shrugged it off (not everyone can do everything, right?), and we went with simply painting that finger a contrasting color. The second time, I thought ahead, and specifically asked for someone who could do polka dots. I think Jessica was my nail tech; she was friendly, and by the end of the appointment, my nails, toes (as well as my hands and feet) looked great! She even offered to clean my rings during my manicure. The mani/pedi lasted for more than a week. I went to Nailsaloon last week with two friends of mine. The place was packed, and the ambience was gone. While the reception staff was nice & efficient, I was again placed with an unfriendly nail tech who didn't speak to me, nor could do nail art. The nail techs that did my friends' manicures were nice and friendly, though (ponder on that). While I acknowledge that I planned ahead for my second visit, honestly, more of your staff should be able to do nail art, as customers many times decide what they want their nails to look like on the fly--besides, it's really not that difficult to apply polka dots, Pixie Dust polish, or create a single flower on a nail. My nail tech also did not do a great job exfoliating my feet. I should have reported my experience day of, but my friends had such a great experience (it was their first time there), I didn't want to be the negative one. I don't know if I'll be back there anytime soon...the prices are too high for the service to be this inconsistent. read more

I was incredibly disappointed with my service at Nailsaloon. Let me start by saying my technician was wonderful, and did everything that was outlined in the description of my $48 pedicure. But the service is advertised as a 50-minute service. I was considering another organic nail salon with a $34/30-minute pedicure, or a $45/45-minute pedicure, but decided to "indulge," assuming this would be a long, luxurious experience. After being seated at 5:45pm and finishing before 6:20pm, I was confused. Did I miss something? When I asked the person at the front desk what the deal was, she called her manager. They did offer me a $10 discount, but I was mildly horrified when they said they were going to "speak to the technician" because "that shouldn't have happened." I tried to say it wasn't her fault - she gave the full massage, hot towels, etc - this was simply completely false advertising. What, exactly, do these people think they're offering that they can price a 30-minute service like this? The cleanliness? The organic salon certainly offered that - bags in the water, single use tools, and more. The massage? Everyone does this today (if anything they've added back massage for free), and while the massage was long, it was totally standard for a nail salon - these aren't professional body workers here. The polish? The organic salon was even more eco- and environmentally-friendly. The ambience? This was maybe the biggest let-down - it was loud, unrelaxing, and the chairs were completely average. The free drink? I would rather pay $13 less than be charged for my tea, and I would say the same if I'd had a glass of wine. In my opinion, this place is completely ripping people off with its pricing model. I would have preferred to pay more and get a fully indulgent experience at a place like Red Door, or go to the organic salon (called Rainlily, for the record) for a 30 minute pedicure that is the exact same experience. read more

My recent visit to DC left me in a crazy situation with a business meeting and a broken nail! I found this heaven of a spot on Yelp. My favorite things under one roof. Pampering, peace and and a great glass of wine! I signed up for their Saloon Mani and I could not have been happier! The space is beautiful and clean, the staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. After a really rough week of being sick, all I wanted was a relaxing mani/pedi and Nailsaloon delivered. I booked an appointment using the Pretty Quick app, which as a bonus gives you 20% off services Sunday-Wednesday so my $80 mani/pedi became $64! Anyway, there were only two nail technicians working so the nailsaloon was pretty quiet today. I actually saw the receptionist turn away people, so perhaps they are understaffed at the moment. My technician (can't remember her name!) was awesome. I don't think anyone EVER has put that much attention and care into my nails! The hand/foot massages were fantastic and considering the mess my nails were in she did a great job getting them to look decent. I changed my mind about my toe polish and she was totally cool letting me choose a new color- the receptionist even let me look through their new shipment of colors that literally arrived while I was there. Overall, the nailsaloon is very clean, chic, comfortable, and relaxing. Other bonuses: there were plenty of magazines, I was offered a beverage, and they cleaned my wedding ring. The *only* thing I missed was having a massage chair, that's one of my favorite things about getting my nails done! The large chairs they have are slightly awkward since they don't recline. This is definitively not the kind of place that will get you in and out quickly and you should probably make an appointment. I was there for 2 hours, but I didn't mind since I wasn't in a rush. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the mood for some relaxation! read more

My experience with Nail Saloon was very disappointing. I searched for nail experts in DC and got this business as a result, but this was far below my expectation. When I walked in I wasn't greeted until the previous customer got her smudged nail fixed. In the meantime I was looking through their nail polish selection trying to choose a color. I had booked an appointment online, but I didn't really get started until 10-15 minutes after the scheduled time, which I didn't really understand since there were other technicians available on their phones. My nail technician was very sweet but didn't understand much English and much of anything I said to her. Considering the more expensive price range, I thought I could discuss nail issues or nail designs with my technician. Nada. Also I thought maybe this would be a more special kind of pedicure but honestly they do scrubs elsewhere with a less inflated price. Maybe if someone was describing the methods they were doing, even if they were the same as a regular pedicure I would be convinced this was a special treatment. After my pedicure was done she smiled and left me in the chair. There was no drying area like other nail salons, but she just got up and left. So I had no idea if she was coming back to do something else, or I was done. Usually in other salons the nail tech helps put your shoes back on or they give you an idea of how long to wait for it to dry etc, and again let me emphasize with a less inflated price. In my opinion this didn't seem worth it, and maybe it was just my particular nail tech, but no one else seemed to obligingly jump in and help with the English. The upside to this, is that it is a very clean salon, you do get a lot of time dedicated to you, but it seemed the time allotted was related to the skill of the technician as opposed to a more involved pedicure. They advertise using the 5-free polishes without Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Resin or Camphor, which is a plus but I still don't see too much of an up to that considering I could also just bring my own polish if I wanted to. They also offer coffee, tea, wine etc. For a mani-pedi, it is a pretty good place to get one if you don't like crowds or those vibrating chairs, but you could probably get one at another location for a way better price. read more

While the setting was nicer than your typical neighborhood nail salon, I did not think the services rendered were commensurate with the price charged, which was over $70 for a mani-pedi. The manicure station had some weird dirt on it; I had to ask that it be cleaned and that the tech change her gloves or use hand sanitizer. The foot scrub was also super harsh and abrasive on my skin. I asked the tech to apply it a bit more gently, but it seemed that there were only two options: a super harsh, forceful scrub (which does not work if your skin is more on the delicate/sensitive side...) or no scrub at all. I think the staff definitely tried to be accommodating and responsive when I brought up these issues, but for the price, these considerations should have been integrated beforehand since you are mainly paying for the service and attention to sanitation. The result of the mani-pedi was standard, no better than a regular nail salon. read more

Very nice experience. Online booking, I got there early for my appointment but I was seen right away. I was promptly offered and given options; I chose white wine. The service was quick yet relaxing. I was able to upgrade my speedy manicure to a full service manicure at the last minute. I was not rushed out even though it was approaching 9 pm while I was still drying. The nail tech was friendly and professional. It's been about 3 1/2 days and I have minimal chipping on my fingernails but I was my hands a lot, and my toes are great. This is a great nail salon in DC. The first thing you notice is there is no gross smell. All their products are organic, which I think is great. The space itself is open and clean, and the color selection is extensive. Truly the best part of the salon though is the staff. I booked pedicures for myself and a friend. We had Mary and Susan, and they were both absolutely lovely. Not only do our toes look great, but they were sweet, friendly, polite, and professional. It was a pleasure talking to them both. Walk-ins are NOT welcome, so they should take that out of their description. They should also remove the part that states that there is no chemical smell. I was attracted to this place because I wanted a natural mani/ Pedi. My daughter and I picked two places, this one more expensive but more appealing because of the natural and friendly environment they described. I didn't make an appointment because I didn't know when my daughter would be able to get together. When we walked in at 8am, the first thing I noticed was the STRONG CHEMICAL SMELL. There was someone ahead of us at the counter so we waited for quite a long time for her to finish. A customer walked in after we had been waiting and cut in front of us as the counter cleared. The girl at the counter took care of her although it was obvious we had been waiting. When it was our turn, the girl asked us in a dismissive way if we had an appointment. We said no and stated that we were there for pedicures. She haughtily replied that we could wait for 8 hours if we liked. There was nothing polite or friendly about her tone, manner, or behavior. She and the rest of the staff and customers seemed to be a bunch of vain, snooty, self-absorbed snobs. We turned around and went to our second choice: The Cabana Day Spa where they were friendly and accommodating and inexpensive and they got a big tip to make up the price difference. read more

My amazing nails and superb customer service were worth every cent! As soon as I stepped into the saloon I felt very welcomed. One of the owners checked me in and explained to me the nail saloon's philosophy and helped me pick out a nail color. She then introduced me to my nail technician - who did an an amazing job on my feet and hands - and get this, they cleaned my rings! Just went there tonight. I love this place. It's feels like if you went to your favorite friend's house and she gave you a manicure, but like the best and most attention to detail one ever, and she served you cocktails AND cleaned your wedding ring while you're getting your nails done. I realize this is DC and everything is more expensive in the city, but I have had better experiences in smaller cities for half the price. One day after my manicure, 2 nails have chipped, and on 2 others the polish is dented and looks wrinkled. My cuticles don't look that great, either -- I feel like I could have had a much closer clean up. I also had a really hard time finding parking in this busy area. I know they offer to fix chips for free but it was a bit of a hassle for me to get there one time. If you're into the "five free" polishes, maybe you should try this place as it is very adorable and the staff is friendly. They have some nice extras like free ring cleaning and drinks. However, I'd rather skip the extras and just leave with a quality manicure for the price. read more
