This was my first time going to DuPont Nails. I'm rarely this far SW in DC, but I was going to Spa Logic for a spa day and it included a manicure and pedicure here. I thoroughly enjoyed my pedicure - Gianni used exceptional ability to clean and shape my nails and my polish was gorgeous. I did regular polish instead of gel because that's what came with the spa day that I'd purchased. Usually I hate non-gel nails, but the pedicure was first and they dried fairly hard before the manicure was finished. The manicure was also quite creditable. The nails were shaped and cleaned expertly, but I should have gone for a buff. Full disclaimer: I haven't done regular nail polish in YEARS, I have been an SNS person, but never having been here before, I preferred to withhold judgment (and $$) until I knew the quality of work that was done. This was a mistake. I don't know if I think it was an accident, but this was some of the worst polishing I've ever had in my life. The fan that she had me using made my polish wavy on the tips and when she moved me to the back to the drying station, it dried sideways and the polish basically shifted on the nail bed. She did two of the nails again, but ALL of them look terrible and it's been one day. Overall, not impressed with the regular manicure. Having been a customer of nail salons for a very long time, I would not be surprised that this was a deliberate ploy to get me to upgrade my services, but she never asked! The spa is lovely, the pedicure chairs and comfortable, deep, and private and the massage function works beautifully. The polish colors and offerings are expansive, and they do offer wine with services. If I go back, I will try the SNS with another nail tech. My pedicure is fabulous, but I'm taking off my polish tonight. In truth, my nails will still look good - the manicure itself was fine- but it wasted a ton of time and I didn't enjoy that aspect. read more

I asked for pink chrome nails. Ended up with sparkly kidney beans. (Done by Nina) I went back for a re-do, and I ended up with dust / pubic hair sealed under top coat. (Done by Mike) Neither took care of my cuticles. I spent near $100. Will not be going back. Front desk is very nice though! read more

I have been a loyal customer of Sam and this amazing establishment for over 3 years now. I started visiting Sam during the toughest times of grad school and every time I would walk through the doors, she greeted me with such care. Let's just say that Sam has pretty much become family with her warmth, attention to details, amazing color recommendations, and ability to provide me with an amazing experience EVERY TIME! The picture of my hands and feet in the blue slippers were captured today yaaaaaaay Spring! After seeing Sam's fun nails a few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to give it a try and do something new and welcoming for the Spring. This led me to go with a classic pedicure and gel manicure all with a mixture of colors and addition of glitter. I loveeeeeeeeee them and most importantly I love that my manicure and pedicures always last (I am a faithful 2-3 weeks follow up type of Lady) The front desk assistants are very helpful and accommodating. There are times when I would call for a random visit to Sam and they would always find a way to squeeze me in. Let's just say that when you find the manicurist of your dreams, you remain faithful to them. That's what I am to Sam. She is amazing in personality and creative in her work and she never lets me leave her chair unless my nails look flawless and she is pleased. I appreciate that! It goes to show how much pride she takes in her work. Thank you Sam and the entire staff for providing quality service, upholding COVID restrictions, and keeping the facility clean and beautiful! I've been coming to DuPont Nails & Spa ever since I moved to DC almost four years ago after a coworker recommended it. It's now a bit of a hike from my new job, but definitely worth the trek! They give the best, long-last manicures in town--and I've tried a number of places. I've done regular polish, gel, and dip, and pedicures with a number of nail techs and they always turn out fabulous, regardless of who I book with. BUT! Mandy is my girl because she does the best job in the most reasonable time. My nails always look flawless, and I'm a little picky about them. I can get my dip nails to last almost a month, which is amazing. If you come on a weekend, even if you have an appointment, be prepared to wait. I've waited over 20 minutes on a few occasions even when I had an appointment because of the shop's propensity to squeeze in walk-in's, so I've started coming during the week and it's much more timely. The prices have also gotten extremely high since post-pandemic, but what hasn't. It's worth the quality to go here over somewhere else. read more

Dupont Nails and Spa is a well know, but still hidden gem in the DC area!! I have been coming here for over a year, and I'm so pleased with the quality of my services!! My go-to girl is Vivian..and she is the best at manicuring my nails and pedicuring my feet. And her massages are phenomenal too!! I travel about 35 mins just to get my nails done here, passing several local nail shops nearby, because her work is so fantastic! My nail color last 3-4 weeks, my nails and cuticles are always neatly shaped and cleaned, and whenever my feet need some extra TLC, Vivian knows how to bring those claws back to perfection. I have brought a few friends here, who are way more particular about their nails than me, and they were very happy with their services as well. However, this wonderful location does have few drawbacks: street parking can be an issue due to the shop being in a busy part of Dupont circle. And there's no free parking, unless you come on Sundays like me :) the nail shop is a little more pricey in their services, but at this point, I rather pay a little more for something that I know will last and offers consistent quality. finally, the nail shop is kind of a tight space, so there will be some maneuvering around folks when they are busy. Also, you would need to walk through the street level salon (spa logic), then descend a narrow set of stairs to get to the shop on the basement level. You can also enter the shop from the back of building, but you would still have to descend outdoor stairs. Dupont Nails and Spa stay busy, so obviously these few drawbacks are not enough to deter me and many others. P.S. everyone is still required to wear masks; there are plastic partitions at the manicure stations, and they use disposable plastic linings in the pedicure foot tubs. I came here while visiting for the weekend because my cousin and sister who come here every time they visit highly recommended it. They really talked it up and said I'd be served wine and champagne and that they also do a good job. I was excited (sad that I was cheating on my nail lady) but in all fairness, I was in a different city. So I was running about 15 mins late because my Uber was stuck in traffic, there were roadblocks all throughout this location which was frustrating. It was to the point that I had to get out of my Uber and walk the last 5 mins because no matter where my Uber turned, the road was blocked off, highly irritating. I feared that they wouldn't be able to accommodate me because when I called telling them why I was running late, the receptionist said I may only be able to do either my mani or pedi. Luckily they accommodated me once I got there. This nail salon is located in one of my favorite DC locations, DuPont Circle, but I was not expecting it to be in a basement. The place was packed, black color scheme, and stuffy in my opinion. They could definitely benefit from a makeover and new furniture. I would give them a 2.75/5 for cleanliness. I believe I saw Cynthia or Cindy, she was really quick but efficient. My French pedicure came out fabulous. One of the staff members asked what I'd like to drink and I told her white wine. To my surprise, my wine came in a styrofoam cup. I was stunned honestly, not the 5-star treatment I was expecting especially because my cousin and sister told me they've been served in glasses. I expected at least a plastic wine glass or a crystal clear cup if Covid was the reason for disposables. This was really off putting and defeated the purpose in my opinion. The only time I've used styrofoam cups were times I've been in the hospital. Finally I got a dip French manicure and at first I thought they looked okay but as I looked longer (because I'm anal) they looked rushed, not smooth, and bulky, and I absolutely hate bulky nails. My nails are naturally long and I prefer them to look as natural as possible, not like I have acrylics or extensions on. My little sister met me at the nail salon and even said my nails looked bulky and uneven. After day 3, my nails looked terrible and for the amount I paid?? Was the wine served in a styrofoam cup $40? Because there's no way I should've paid $140 for the work that was done. I was hopeful that I had found a nail salon as I'll be moving to the DMV soon for grad school but what a letdown, the search continues! read more

I'm thrilled to join the Vivian fan club. Thanks to her detailed and precise work but also her kind and sweet temperament, I'm happy to have found my new nail place. I got an SNS manicure and regular pedicure. I really enjoyed the care and attention Vivian showed, and her foot and leg massage was very relaxing. When it was time for my manicure, Vivian kindly suggested two different hues of white for my consideration and helped me choose a milky color for my hands that I never tried before and LOVED. I also really appreciate her precision: the thickness of the SNS is just right, starting very thin at the base of my nail and growing slightly thicker at the end. It's also very well-applied, likely the best I've ever received in years of having my nails done exclusively SNS. Overall, Vivian's work is top notch. She is an excellent technician and the quality of the service alone would have me hooked. But Vivian is also very kind, sweet, friendly, and welcoming. Her temperament and work ethic make her THE BEST. The salon itself is underground and very clean. One sidenote: they seem to be the same as Spa Logic (staff wear Spa Logic name tags and the establishment appears to be connected above ground). This had me a bit confused at first. read more

I just moved to DC and was looking for a Nail Salon to replace the one I had been going to for years. I found this place due to the high volume of reviews and pictures. I had seen some mixed reviews so I wanted to try it out myself. Cindy did my nails and she was an expert! I got dip with a white tip with my natural nails. she perfectly shaped and cut my nails! The manicure was great too and she cleaned all around my cuticles and under my nail. My total was around $76 which was a great deal for the amazing work she did! I will definitely be back! The entire mani pedi was decent. But what's unfortunate is that the gel mani started peeling 2 days later. I'm used to keeping my gel manicure for at least 2 weeks and just replacing it when my nails grow out. I've been here for acrylics which was a good experience but I guess the classics fall a bit short. I'd come back for acrylics but I'm trying to go natural for now. read more

I wanted to try another nail salon that wasn't Mimosa (which is usually where I go). I got the regular pedi, which was NOT done well. The polish on my big toe got smudged off even after getting it re-done. I was unhappy with the overall result. The gel mani was ok but I've definitely had better at Mimosa. The edges of the polish feel like it will start coming off fairly soon and the nail bed feel like they were dug in too much. The guy who did my nails didn't do that great of a job. I wish I asked for a girl instead. They also didn't let me use a yelp deal when I didn't even see the sign that told me I was supposed to show them the deal since it was my first time there. This review is for Vivian, one of the best nail techs I've ever had. I moved to dc recently and was having a difficult time finding someone to trust to do a good job with my nails. Vivian isn't only the best nail tech I've found (after many months and many disappointing manicures) but she's probably the best nail tech I've been to ever. I pretty exclusively do SNS/ dip manicures because I don't have to worry about chipping or peeling. Some nail techs leave the nails very bulky but Vivian always files them down. I've been seeing Vivian every month for almost three years now. She is an amazing nail tech and truly takes the time to know her clients. I'm very particular with the shape of my nails and she has it down perfectly. She recommends colors she knows I would like when I am undecided on what to get. After a combo of skipping a pedicure (never again!) and tight shoes/exercise last year, one of my toenails started to irritate me and since then she always takes special care to prevent discomfort by making sure it looks and feels ok. Vivian is a talented pro and wonderful person. I always look forward to our appointments and catching up with her! Additionally, the front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. The salon is clean and well maintained. They took COVID protocol very seriously, only recently lifting mask requirements. I've gone to DuPont Nails a handful of times the past few months, and generally really enjoyed my experience and loved the nail work. I usually get SNS, and today, I feel in love with Tina's work! She was thorough and they turned out great, no unevenness, so smooth and a great shape. We also had a lot of fun chatting. My SNS nails have typically lasted me a solid 3+ weeks. If you're looking for some extra pampering for sore muscles on a pedicure, I recommend the Runner's Pedicure (also includes a brief shoulder message). They do take walk-ins but I've always called ahead to check what's available, as it can get busy. I also appreciate the Covid precautions the salon has taken. They have sheets up between pedi and mani chairs. read more

Two words, "Rushed" and "Sloppy" Before writing this review, I went to 3 nail techs in 2 months for a fill in and pedicure. At first, I thought it was the booked up appointments and walk-ins that causes the nail techs to do a poorly job, but on the 2 other visits the spa wasn't full at all. Within a few days of getting a fill-in the paint starts to peel and in a week my cuticle area looks flaky. It's because they do not cut/clean up the cuticle area, so within a week your main/pedi looks horrible. Cuticle clean up is essential to a long-lasting mani/pedi. They basically just paint over them. I asked for square nails every time and the shape of each nail is sized differently from the others. Including there is nothing natural looking with my nails and they look bulky/thicker. Cons - Doesn't take care of your cuticles OR cut them - Shape sizes are off - Paint peels/lift within a few days - Poor sanding and filling down - Nails look bulky and not natural - Acrylic is thicker - Rushed read more

I've been abroad for three years in a place where pedicures are not done as thoroughly as I'd like. Vivian was an absolute pro and took the time to fix my feet, including getting rid of two ingrown nails that were causing me so much pain. I haven't had my nails done in over 10 years. I decided to splurge and get a full set of liquid gel nails done. For some reason they ended up doing an acrylic set instead. Don't know if that was a miscommunication or not and I don't know enough about nails so I didn't catch it until I asked a friend later. It's ok though, no big deal. Although I will say I was a little annoyed that when the guy got done my nails looked like they were a week grown out already and he didn't even cut my cuticles or file the nails so they weren't so thick. He just didn't seem very invested in giving me a good experience. I decided to give them a second chance since my friends manicure turned out lovely. I got Lee the second time and she was so damn good! She's very detail oriented and makes sure she knows what you want. She also doesn't try to pressure you to add other services on like other salons. I've been going to her ever since. She's def with it. read more

Unimpressed and very disappointed! On 12/16 I got a gel manicure. On 12/22 my nails are peeling as if they were done 3 weeks ago! I usually try not to write negative reviews, but I am writing this because I use to go here a little more often and I stopped because I was never really happy. After months of going to other places I decided to try this salon again since I was area. Once they started my pedicure I remembered why I stopped coming. Cheap/basic manicure... to get services other places offer with the basic pedicure you have to pay extra. But that didn't and doesn't bother me as much as the quality of my gel manicure. I was hoping to have nice nails going into Christmas... they look like I got them done 3 weeks ago! Now after this experience it is confirmed I will NOT go back again regardless of the yelp deals and discounts! NOT worth it! read more

This place won't leave you disappointed if you're looking for a simple manicure and you don't care for how much it costs. I've been going to DuPont nails for a couple of years, and found it to be the best nail salon I could find in DC (this is why I give it an overall 3 and not lower than that). Unfortunately, this past year I noticed a huge rise in prices, and the quality of work didn't rise along with it. 1) Today, I paid $91 (!!!) total for a full set/gel/design. At this price, I would expect nail technicians to be the best at what they do. In my case, I spent 25 minutes guiding the nail tech through doing the simple design I was asking for on four nails. 2) To make matters worse, once I left and took a full look at them, I noticed messiness/unevenness in the work they did (I've attached pictures below). And in addition to that, left over nail polish around my nail and some sort of air bubbles in the polish on one finger were found. 3) A solid chunk of my nail was also taken off, leaving some of the raw skin underneath it exposed and hurting. I feel bad leaving this review because I like the people who work there (they're nice people, the person today was very sweet). But the employees need to do some nail-art/nail-painting training, or the business needs to lower their prices. A co worker recommended DuPont Nails & Spa and I'm kicking myself for wasting so much time with other salons. The service is amazing, the mimosas are delicious, and everyone is extremely friendly. Mandy has been doing my nails since I started coming here and she's terrific. I enjoy chatting with her and I am floored by my nails whenever I leave. I've been getting my nails done since I was a teen and I have smaller hands so people always struggle but Mandy gets it right every time. She's really great. read more

Absolutely terrible service. I just walked out of the salon and had to write my review how horrible of an experience I had. I came for a gel manicure with design and regular pedicure. Manicure: I showed the lady what design I wanted. The design was on this Yelp page from the OWNER, but I was told they can't do it. Definitely should not be advertising services you can't provide. They didn't push back my cuticles or cut any dead skin. In fact, she filed the sides of my nails so much I'm concerned I'm going to have hangnails now. You can also see part of my actual real nail because the fitting wasn't done right. She also kept pushing in the side of bedding of my nail and filing underneath the nail because she did a sloppy job. The technician also did not give me a hand/arm massage which is one of my favorite parts. Pedicure: The water for the pedicure was cold. Usually the person whom you're paying to do the pedicure puts flip flops or sandals on your feet. But the lady doing my pedicure gave me my sandal to put back on myself, as if she couldn't be bothered. Checkout: I told the receptionist it's my first time here and showed her the Yelp $2 off gel manicure coupon. She said it can't be honored. Then I show her the 10% off one service coupon. She said that also can't be honored because it's during the week. I showed her it didn't show that or specify anywhere on the coupon. She wouldn't honor it. All-in-all this place is moody, over priced and horrible experience. I'll stick to my salon in Ballston next time instead of going out of my way for special designs they advertise but can't even do. read more

This is definitely not worth the price. I wouldn't even give it one star at all. To start off, Tina, my nail tech was 20 mimutes late. No apologies. Then as she was doing my nails based on the picture I showed her she got all the colors over my cuticles (which weren't even trimmed) and she couldn't understand why I'm getting frusterated about that. She said "you can't expect this to be perfect". Well that is what I paid for. I paid for a nail service that would bring pleasure not for a compromise. Poor poor quality in general. I eventually changed the design to be much more simple because she couldn't seem to pull it off. read more

I came here with a few friends and had high expectations due to the reviews I read here on yelp. There was a rush of so many customers from the moment I walked in and I could tell they were backed up. I overheard the man at the register thanking the lady who had agreed to do my manicure because apparently it was her time to go on break - this is the first thing that really stood out to me. Throughout the manicure, I observed her attention to detail, the little things that she did and the time she put in to doing it. I usually don't think manicures are worth the cost because I can paint my own nails at home, however I came here to bond with my friends and was actually able to justify the cost of this service due to how dedicated this lady was to me throughout the time we had together. From the beginning with cutting my cuticles to the end with the hand massage, hitting all the pressure points. Everything was exceptional. read more

I came in for a SNS manicure. I asked for matte nails & my nail tech, Emma, happily applied the gel matte top coat to them. The manicure was very nice but I'm not so happy with my nails. I asked not to go shorter & my nails were filed shorter. I asked for almond shape and my tech didn't achieve that so I said "that's fine" because I didn't want her to keep filing my nails shorter. The final product came out streaky and much shorter than I asked. This mani wasn't worth $60. read more

My first impression of the salon was that it is crowded with awkward lighting, kinda reminds you of a lab or something. The lady who did my nails was attentive and helped me choose a different color when I wasn't satisfied with the initial one. She did a solid job and I didn't feel too rushed even though they seemed to be busy. She asked me several times if my nails looked how I wanted them to and I appreciated that.
