I had to scramble to get another reservation somewhere else and they did not respond to any phone calls or voicemails, regarding an explanation. Very unprofessional!! Please also see my review below for a previous experience I had there. I also have a $150 gift card that I am unable to use! Pros: Plenty of tuna available, served with fresh wasabi. Cons: Limited or no rice (asked multiple times, but few had it), mediocre appetizer quality and quantity, chaotic and loud atmosphere, no water provided (asked multiple times), and the fish was not sourced from Japan. I was disappointed with the tuna cutting event. I had expected a more formal and relaxed setting, similar to my previous omakase experience, but instead, it was loud, crowded, and chaotic. I also assumed the fish would be sourced from Japan and that the appetizers would be of somewhat comparable quality and quantity to those at the previous omakase dinner, due to the price of the dinner. Additionally, my girlfriend and I were very sick afterward and still are (throwing up etc). People were throwing up outside as well. The lack of rice, limited appetizers, and no access to water made it difficult to balance the meal. Having these options would have helped settle our stomachs and balanced the meal, instead of just eating pure tuna. We also didn't drink much (less than two weak alcoholic beverages each since we rarely drink), which made the event feel less worthwhile. Offering a non-alcoholic price option could be beneficial for guests like us. Overall, I found the event underwhelming and wouldn't attend again. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback.

Cocktails were a reasonable price, they do not offer wine, and many sake options. Most are quite pricey, but the warmed sake was $28 for a carafe. We got two and split it between the three of us. They warm it in the microwave, which I thought was slightly awkward, as the microwave was in the main dining area, near where some of the alcohol was stored. Our dining experience started off with three appetizers. They were interesting but not quite that flavorful in my opinion. The sushi coming out after we're much nicer. I especially liked the pickled vegetables on top of a few of the pieces. I mentioned in my reservation that I was a pescatarian and as they only asked for food allergies before they began and not preferences/dietary restrictions, I did not mention it. I wasn't offered anything instead of the wagyu piece so I ended up giving it to my friend. They were, however, very mindful of my friend's shrimp allergy. Bill ended up being $136 for the 16 courses plus the drinks, tax and tip.

I tried to give this new spot a fair shot, especially because it's so close to me, but it was pretty disappointing to say the least. The cooked food selection was limited. No fried oysters?! On top of that, the cooked food that we did order was bland and bordered on nursing home food. Service was very slow even though it wasn't busy. It took almost an hour for the sushi to be served and we only ordered 2 rolls and a few pieces of nigiri. I noticed that there were way more waitstaff than sushi chefs. The interior was decorated beautifully and the employees were nice, but that's really the only positive thing I have to say :(

I didn't anticipate the restaurant to be so packed as it looks unassuming given its location, but I was wrong! Had to wait a good 30-40 minutes to get a table for 2. Once you review the menu, you put up the sign that says "service needed" to indicate to the staff you are ready to order. They have disclaimers (rightfully so) to not over order as to minimize food waste.Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and tasted very fresh! Def a great deal (just under $30 PP for all you can eat) and a great variety of options.

The bamboo shoots tasted a bit weird but other than that the noodles and meat were cooked perfectly. You can tell the time and care put into this broth because it's fantastic, super layered but not too heavy. If they sold that id buy it for home. Service was fast, order taken the moment we decided and our app came out about 3 minutes later. The ramen took another 5 minutes and then came out steaming. We were able to walk up to the front and get our check immediately as well. Overall friendly and speedy. The inside is cute with a minimalist japanese aesthetic. The kitchen is pretty on view so you can see you're sushi or ramen being prepped. Overall great find and if i'm in the area again i'll be back!

The ramen had great depth of flavor, the tempura was crisp and light, and the roll was fresh and satisfying. Even on a rainy Thursday night the place was packed, which says a lot, but we were seated immediately. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient the whole time. I also loved the ambiance of the place. There's something about it that feels very communal, and it was cool being able to watch the sushi chefs and the rest of the team at work. This will definitely become one of my staples in Morristown!

***2 1/2 stars***…read more This was one of the oddest sushi restaurant experiences I've ever had. I came here for lunch on Saturday with the Millennial Chum, who may have gotten into a mild rumble with a member of the staff a decade ago when she was a much younger Millennial Chum, but was still willing to return and give this a shot. No rumbles this time, but the service and atmosphere left a very strange impression. We stopped by at the height of lunch hour around 1PM - part of my thought process was that sushi tends to be pretty quick for sit-down service, so we weren't likely to have an issue seeing the 2PM Nicole Kidman porn nearby (I was correct on that front at least). The minute we walked in, we both looked at each other in confusion - it was SO quiet and empty, I actually felt self-conscious walking through the restaurant to our designated booth. I think there was one other party in there, but even with that it was honestly like being in a mausoleum. Strange. I decided to get three rolls - two normal, one edgy. This is now the second time in a few months that I've encountered a sushi menu that doesn't have salmon/avocado on it, which I consider one of the most common hand rolls, but it wasn't an issue to order it off menu. I also got a sweet potato roll and a Winter Roll. The Winter Roll was the star here - loved the flavors and it sort of tasted like a Dorito in a good way (which I assume is a hat tip to the crab meat on top). Definitely something I'd get again. The salmon/avocado was fine; a little light on the ingredients but tasted fresh. I just did not like the Sweet Potato roll, and I can't quite put my finger on it. This is one I get a lot, and taste-wise just wasn't up to par. Maybe the potato wasn't as ripe as I'm used to? The Millennial Chum is not a sushi person but given the lack of fish this was a pretty safe test roll for her, and she DID like it for what it's worth. Another weird touch? In my experience, sushi places tend to have very friendly staff, which I always assumed was cultural and/or a way of overcompensating for language barriers, etc. The waitstaff we encountered were the sushi restaurant equivalent of Daria - everyone was unsmiling and very monotone. Overall, the turnaround time wasn't bad (we got to the Nicole Kidman porn with time to spare), but the food didn't come out at the same time, which was a little annoying. The Millennial Chum's Shrimp Teriyaki came out first, then a few moments later two out of my three rolls came, but it took another five minutes at least for the final roll to show up. Not the biggest deal in the world (I certainly had something to munch on while I waited) but I like to eat my rolls simultaneously so I'm not just eating one flavor to end the meal. That was unusual, and also strange (theme of the meal) since there was no one else really in the restaurant. This was a tough one to gauge. The sushi overall was decent but it just wasn't a comfortable experience. Unless the food is absolutely mindblowing, the vibe really matters and can make the difference. Daria was a cutting edge comedy that deserved a better platform than MTV - it doesn't make for a great sushi lunch.

In a culinary landscape where great sushi is so often confined to coastal capitals and…read moreexpense-account zip codes, it is genuinely startling to encounter something this accomplished in Matawan. I have eaten sushi at Sugarfish in Manhattan and at Jade in Beverly Hills--two benchmarks for quality and consistency--and I can say without hesitation that this experience surpasses Sugarfish and stands shoulder to shoulder with Jade at roughly a third of the price. With sushi, the truth is unavoidable: three-quarters of the experience is determined long before the knife ever touches the fish. It lives in the discipline of daily market sourcing, in restraint, in knowing when not to interfere. Here, that philosophy is not only understood but executed with confidence. The fish is pristine, the rice balanced and restrained, the flavors allowed to speak without excess. What makes this place remarkable is not merely its technical proficiency, but its ambition. This is not "good for New Jersey" sushi; it is simply excellent sushi, full stop--an experience that would feel entirely at home in Manhattan, Los Angeles, or Tokyo. I gladly made the trip from Montclair, and I will gladly make it again. This is the rare kind of restaurant that recalibrates expectations, proving that greatness does not require a skyline--only rigor, taste, and respect for the craft.

Our server/service was excellent overall and food came out very fast despite the restaurant slowly filling up! We started off with the mentai potato, zaru soba, and tempura appetizers and those were the stars tonight. The mentai potato were steak fries with a mentaiko and wasabi dipping sauces. Fries were large, crispy and perfectly saulted. The zaru soba was also a nice find! We usually have go to NYC for it so it was a nice surprise. Pro tip, add wasabi to the sauce to mellow out the saltiness. We ordered a few rolls, a sushi dinner and some uni. Unfortunately the uni didn't seem as fresh as we had hoped and had a very overwhelming ocean taste to it. The rice on the rolls and sushi also were a bit mushy as if the rice wasn't cooked enough or too much rice vinegar was used. We also ordered a white christmas roll expecting seared white tuna, but it wasn't seared. Fish quality was ok overall. Overall, the experience was fine and we would love to try some more of the hot food. We really loved the apps but were a little disappointed tonight with the sushi. We'd come back soley for the apps!

I've eaten at Ottoyee for months now, and each experience has been incredibly delicious. However, the only thing is that the wait time can run very long. Not for the food to arrive, but for placing the order. We tried to get the attention of the waiter on staff multiple times, but was either ignored or they were behind the screen attending to something else. The wait time was around 15-20 minutes, but this is likely attributed to the small staff. Otherwise though, they were incredibly kind and knowledgeable of the menu and we still had a delicious experience as usual.

Upon entertaining on a weekend evening, there were a few tables with patrons but not too busy. The restaurant did seem a bit understaffed with only one person taking orders / bringing food out, making it difficult to flag down this one person to successfully take our order and ask for anything additional throughout the night. Gyudon: for the price, we were really surprised at how small of a portion this was. It was not only in a small bowl, but the meat was layered on top perfectly deceiving you to think that there was more than there actually was. The majority of this dish was rice, and with limited sauce at that. As displayed on the menu images it was to be served with a runny egg, but unfortunately we got a fully cooked one (disappointing, as we were looking for something to mix with the rice!) Sushi: We got a 3 rolls and they were just alright. They were pretty small in size, with less rice than I'm used to (which is something I do like - I would rather more fish than rice!) With us getting spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and spicy scallop - they all kind of tasted the same, so I wish the fish wasn't as heavily masked with spicy mayo. Ramen: I got the black garlic ramen, and it wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst. I've purchased fresh ramen packages in the supermarket before and it tasted just like that, so it made me disappointed knowing I could achieve the same at home. The soup itself was extremely rich and fatty, and the charsiu had no flavor whatsoever leaving much to be desired. The main reason I'm rating this so low is upon having my last bites of sushi, I could tell something was off. I don't recall which specifically I had but I made a statement that it was extremely fishy and off putting. Fast forward later that night, I was hunched over the toilet vomiting with stomach pain - and I can deduct that the sushi was the culprit. I might consider trying Ottoyee again due to the great deals they have listed on food delivery apps, but the sushi quality (quite literally) put a bad taste in my mouth.
