Last week, during a service project in rural Costa Rica, in 85 to 90 % humidity, I shoveled, moved dirt and rocks, mixed concrete, moved cinder blocks, stacked building supplies, and other wo-manual labor. I have aggravating scoliosis, and at the time of my visit, I had left a shoulder injury untreated for about a month. I didn't think it was such an extensive injury and kept waiting for my body to heal itself, until it became unbearable for me to even move. After a session with Jon, I was finally able to take a step without pain. He was very thorough in asking me my sensitivity level, some medical background and offered advice and explanations before and after the session. I asked her to reduce her pressure at least three separate times. Finally, I just gave up and suffered through the last twenty minutes of the massage. She used short rapid strokes which were not relaxing or soothing in the least. It was really miserable and uncomfortable. I know I should've just gotten up off the table and ended it early. I don't know why I didn't. I guess it's hard to muster up the courage to get up and go when you are laying unclothed face down on a table. I went in for help with a sore shoulder and left with two sore shoulders. When I went to check out they up-charged me $10 because she was apparently a "master" therapist. Talk about adding insult to injury. What a disappointment. Hopefully if someone reads this and has a bad experience it will empower them to get up and leave. I wish I would have.
