She enjoyed her meal at "Nando's PERi-PERi" and likely thought the only souvenir she'd take home with her were her fond memories. Well imagine her surprise when years later she moved to Canada and found a "Nando's" already waiting for her! With a lineage like theirs, "Nando's" is a friend that you really ought to endeavor to stay in touch with. Their dishes are largely based upon the PERi-PERi chilli that was born in Mozambique, spent its influential teenage years being influenced by Portuguese explorers, and later found its home and settled down in Rosettenville, South Africa. And you thought you had an interesting origin story! Although their Afro-Portuguese chicken creations taste already deliciously marinated, you are more than welcome to supplement your meal from a selection of choices at their "spicy chilli sauce bar." However, be for-warned that their Extra Hot PERi-PERi is self-described as, "Like tackling a ferociously fiery dragon." Fear not about wading into these molten waters of entree flavor because you'll be able to successfully douse those flames with an order of either "Naughty Natas" or "Nando's Kisses" from their dessert menu. I remember when Nandos first landed in Canada…read more It was back in 1994 & it set up shop in Richmond on Aykroyd Rd. I made several pilgrimages there while it remained open. Sadly it closed after a few years. Rest easy, Richmond has several other Nandos locations. In fact Nandos is located throughout Metro Vancouver. The first Canadian location had been open for a few weeks but it took an out of town acquaintance for me to seriously take notice of it. He was freaking out over this Nandos chicken. In fact on the way to the airport for his return home, he made us stop at Nandos. I was like - it's just chicken!? After he left I went & tried it out for the first time. I soon discovered a sensational tasting chicken like none I'd ever had before. Originating out of South Africa, with Portuguese roots, Nandos has taken over the world. It's not uncommon to actually find a local Nandos in most big urban cities worldwide. Nandos, Kerrisdale was originally located on 41st Ave near East Boulevard, but due to a fire (next door) it ended up closing back in 2023. It has now reopened & is still on 41st Ave, about a 200 metres west of its previous location. I had stopped by the old location several times over the years when I was in the area. I've had my chicken (usually leg & thigh hot) & rice or salad, & really enjoy the newer Rainbow Bowl. Nandos chicken is marinated in Peri-Peri chilli peppers for 24 hours. When you place an order, you can pick your spice level - mild, medium or hot. You can even buy a bottle of Peri-Peri sauce to take home. If you're confused about the spice level you'd be comfortable with, just ask the person taking your order for recommendations. Try the Portuguese Tarts for dessert - be warned they're very addictive. I was impressed with the layout & decor of the old location, but let me tell you - the new location has stepped up the design game. Very swanky indeed. Come eat some hearty chicken & check out the new Kerrisdale neighbourhood location, which just opened up in March.

I believe it's a new branch so we are not sure if the service is as good as other Barcelos branches. I must say, this is the best branch of Barcelos when it comes to customer service. We asked about the promos that they do have, and the cashier, which happened to be one of the owners too, went beyond their offer and gave us extra. Food was really great and the owner always updates us about the status of the order. The place very nice and clean too. A very pleasant place to dine in with your family.
