I walked to this location in downtown Philly. This is located in the Reading Terminal I couldn't decide what to get initially and they let me sample things. I walked around and decided to come back. I got the chicken korma with rice and a potato samosa. It was yummy. Definitely enjoyed the meal. It was a good portion. I had two plates which worked for me. The samosa was really good. It was made different. Very flaky and light. When in Philly, I would go back and try some of their other dishes. It was extremely good. Service was good. I've eaten at Nanees may times. They are friendly and service oriented and 5 out of six times, I've been satisfied with my meal. Nothing is made to order so you take what they have or eat elsewhere. Yesterday, I got the chicken biryani to share with my husband and a side of spinach and a side of cabbage. When I opened the biryani, my husband took a look and said, "yeah, that just doesn't look very appetizing to me". He ate some of the vegetables which were fine but a bit oily. They biryani was spicy and I like spice but there were bone fragments throughout which made it an unpleasant experience. I also got a La Croix and the total amount was like $29, which seemed too much for lunch. read more

Yellow rice never disappoints and with the spinach, they soaked up the spicy chickpea sauce to add a good kick to my taste buds. A delicious spiced meal! My daughter wanted to try this place so I tried to order a mini chicken meal for her. The bowl is rice with chicken ontop served in one bowl, but my daughter doesn't like her rice combined with other food so I asked the store to put it in separate bowls. They refused. I told them just put half in 1 bowl and half in another. The lady who was serving the food said it was too hard to judge how much they are serving, which was just unbelievable to me. The reading terminal is generally somewhere you would go and make multiple purchases for the day. Since I was with my boyfriend this ended up being the only place I swiped my card in the past week. 2am of the next day I had a fraudulent charge for $315. I can't prove it was done due to this place but I see other comments noting incorrect charges on their card and see it fit to warn people & urge to pay in cash at this place to be safe. Expensive for what you get. The naan was the worst I've ever had. It was dry, hard and flavorless. They make it fresh onsite in the back, but then they wrap it up in foil and put it in a hot-box. The manager/owner that served it to me even checked it for softness before giving it to me, but deemed it worth serving and gave it to me anyway. Obviously, he knows there is a problem there and needs to address it. The chicken korma was fine, but not at all memorable. I wish I had seen the average rating on here before ordering from this place. As a South Asian myself, the food was such a letdown. Their kathi rolls are NOT authentic. But that wasn't the issue, they were not made well nor did they taste well. The chicken was flavorless, it had no spice or seasoning. The kathi roll is supposed to be rolled in a naan or roti - not a tortilla. Because the tortilla was so thin, the kathi roll got soggy and fell apart. Overall very unsatisfactory. Also from a hygiene standpoint, I had to personally ask the gentleman assembling the rolls to change his gloves because he had been touching everything from the register to handling money before putting my roll together. It was concerning when he double checked if I was asking him to change his gloves...he should have the sense himself. Please do better. read more

I really wanted to try Indian food in Philly and while I was at RTM I decided to get chicken tikka masala from here even though this grandpa suggested that it was not good. I always get chicken tikka masala from Indian restaurants so I felt like I had to give it a try. I didn't read reviews prior to eating so now I agree with people when they say it's quite watery. It lacks the spices and creaminess of the masala. The rice was good. Not sure if it was hot now that I think about it. The chicken samosa was flaky and good. Overall the food was edible. I just wish it was more authentic tasting. The worker was nice though. I've also tried a spinach samosa and found that to be delicious. I went this past weekend after a couple of years (yeah, I know) and it wasn't the same. I ordered the mini meal with white rice and chicken tikka masala (they didn't have the tandoori chicken to my knowledge at this time) and it was pretty bland as other reviews have mentioned - probably should have read them first. While their were times that my saag paneer and veggie curry have been a perfect blend of fresh flavors and spices, there have been other times were they have came out quite bland. its something that can be quite discouraging. But Nanee's does yield enough unique halal offerings to make it worth coming back for another time (althoguh Jake's review has me avoiding asking for Naan bread). I came here on a Sunday, and the line for Nanees kitchen was just as long as the other food establishments at Reading Terminal. I had Nanees before. Its solid Indian food. My platter of Chicken tikka, chickpeas, rice with a small salad, fresh naan and a large fountain drink was $17. Note that the naan is fresh and made to order- I had to wait a few minutes for that. I am a Reading Terminal regular customer and have tried Nanee's on a few occasions to get a good gauge on the the quality of the food. So far, I have tried the Veggie, Potato and Beef Samosas, Curry and BBQ Chicken, Stewed Okras and most of the side options. I'm not a huge okra fan but the stewed okras are great! Especially with a side of rice. The Samosas are a good and quick bite to eat if you are in a rush. Overall, this place is a hit or miss. Sometimes the Chicken or Lamb is tasty, other times it can be a bland to the taste buds. For example, the veggie rice is delicious but it is not always cooked well and underdone. Also, when you get a platter any substitution is extra. If you substitute veggie rice instead of the standard rice, its an extra dollar. If I want two veggies as a side its an extra charge and keep in mind the platters do start around $9.00. Nanee's is worth a try but I would not expect to be "wowed". One last note, what I have learned to do is ask for samples of the chicken and lamb before you place an order. read more

It was missing the fragrant spices usually abound in Indian cuisine, the punch of the tomato base, and spice I've come to expect. I don't really know about the rest of the food because I always get the samosas which are large, consisting of a light and flaky pastry outer shell, great fillings, and super tasty. And you can add sauces to them. Of course I like best the spicy cilantro and chili sauce. I have always found the staff to be pleasant despite many other Yelpers having a different opinion. This was my first experience having Indian food. It was an amazing first and I will definitely have it again. I'm not a big curry person which is why it is usually not my first option. They gave us a sample and I was sold - even with all of the other choices around. I had the chicken korma platter with yellow rice and a side salad. The chicken was moist, tender, and very flavorful. I hoped the second bite wouldn't let me down and it did. I don't care how much sauce you out on, your chicken was still dry.
