My experience was excellent! I have not had such great Indian food as when I visited India 11 years ago! And the hospitality was excellent! I did not even know the general manager held his title because he was so accommodating and genuinely warm. I was with a large business group that bought out the restaurant that day, but Khemraj, the owner, world just as hard as his employees, it was hard to see he held the title as general manager. Came here for dinner the other night with a team from work. I deferred to another Indian regular, and he ordered family style for the entire table. I've never had stuffed naan before so that was tasty. However, I still think it's best to order a curry or dip to eat with naan. The lamb donut just tasted like a ground lamb empanada. That first time, the food was excellent and the service was fast considering how crowded it was. They have a lot of runners in addition to the waiters, it seems. I didn't like our main waitress because she seemed unhappy to be there and was just tolerating me with a forced smile, but the food was so great that I didn't care. There was a smiling guy working there and we wished he had been our waiter. The second time was a normal meal, just lunch more than a month later, and we got the smiling guy: Chemraj. Great discovery of a modern, fine dining Indian restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia. Very warm, inviting and comfortable vibe here. The staff are very attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately I wasn't able to explore many items on the menu. I just had a few delicious appetisers. I must say, you have to try the Lasooni Gobi - which is a lightly battered and flash-fried Cauliflower tossed in a Ginger-Garlic sauce. This was amazing! I'm looking forward to coming back to explore additional items on the very enticing menu. Veda sells a beer call Rupee. It's a Indian beer carefully made to pair very well with curry. I visited Veda for a Yelp event last year and have wanted to go back ever since. I saw that Veda has a brunch menu so I stopped by ! There is a bottomless mimosa option and Yes! I indulged. The waitress kept the carafes coming until I was ready to leave ! I also ordered the non Veg Thali. It was absolutely delicious- full of flavor. I was so impressed with the service and the food, decided to get some dessert! The waitress suggested GULAB JAMUN WITH ICE CREAM. I got takeout here for dinner and I was pleased by what I ordered. I got 2 shrimp dishes- the shrimp tandoori and the shrimp curry. The shrimp tandoori came on a bed of rice and lentils. I preferred shrimp curry more as the shrimp was excellently cooked and the flavors of the curry were great. The naan was very buttery all in a good way. The dishes were a little on the pricey end (each entree was around ~$30) for portion size compared to other Indian restaurants in the area. In dining experience last night: My experience was more like 2-2.5. Let's start with the good: 1. Desserts. On to the bad now: 1. Spicy margarita with spicy rim: Flavor wise it was ok but what I didn't like is their use of straight up chilli powder to rim the glass. So bland and awful! A spicy rim also needs to be "tasty" so pro tip for your bartender: you need to mix some sugar, some salt, lemon and spice - that's how you make a "spicy" yet "delicious" rim. 2. Crab cake: why bother serving even that 1 piece lol. It was quite amusing to look at. 1 piece of crab cake? I am sure you could do atleast 2? no? 3. Fish Moilee: The server asked us what was the spice level we wanted on a scale of 5 and we said 4. The curry came extremely watered down, not flavorful at all and had zero heat. Overall, I feel like this experience doused any desire left to come back. It was in all honesty my last meal at Veda. read more

Solid Indian fare with a good selection of happy hour foods. Their HH goes from 5pm-7pm every day of the week. We ordered: Goat cheese naan ($4) - 4/5. I have never had goat cheese in naan before but this was cheesy carby heaven. There's plenty of goat cheese stuffed inside, and the naan itself is chewy. I did feel that it needed to be cut by an acid and used the chutney that came with the tandoori grilled salad. Samosa chaat ($5) - 4/5. The sauce for this was a bit too sweet, but I liked all the textures, from the chickpeas to the crunch of the samosa. Crab cake ($5) - 3/5. This is a single crab cake. It was good, but still. A single one. You will have to prepare to fight your partner for it. Tandoori grilled salad ($5) - 3/5. This was basically just a skewer of grilled vegetables and paneer. There wasn't anything super special about it. I also ordered the Chicken Chettinad ($22). It comes with rice and the chicken was very tender. I wish the curry was a bit thicker and that there was more chicken for the price I paid, but it was definitely very flavorful and really soaked into the fragrant rice. read more

Went here for restaurant week and had a great time! From the $45 set menu, I ordered the shrimp balchao, fish moilee, and masala chai ice cream. The shrimp was tossed in a spicy chili masala sauce. The fish moilee curry was creamy and rich which nicely balanced the acidity from the shrimp appetizer. Also, I would definitely recommend getting the garlic naan over the regular naan. I went during restaurant week to check out their 20$ lunch menu. Here's a breakdown of the food: Spinach chaat: Really solid appetizer that incorporates crunch spinach with sweet and savory sauces. I've had better at Indeblue (RIP), but this is a good alternative. Curries: The chicken curry was sub par. Very watery, making it tough to scoop up with the nan. Had better.....The fish curry on the other hand was good. It had a strong coconut taste and a nice thick consistency. The fish itself was very light and tasty. Dessert: The Indian tres leches I had was delicious, best item they had. It has all the flavors of a typical tres leches with small chunks of Ras Malai (Indian dessert, idk how to explain the flavor but it's pretty fire) . 12/10, highly recommend. Veda gets 5 stars for offering Happy Hour 7 days a week from 5 to 7 p.m. I have not gone here for a meal (brunch, lunch or dinner) since before the pandemic as I have other Indian favorites, namely Amma and Thanal Tavern, that I feel give me much tastier and less expensive dining choices, even if their ambiance is not as spiffy as Veda's. Veda's interior decoration IS nicely eye catching, which makes an ideal setting for taking up a bit of bar space with a book, a periodical and one of their HH libations. My favorite is the Maharajah Tonic. It's simple, classic, cold and reliably strong. A friend who sometimes joins me for this civilized bargain break between day's end and dinner enjoys the Old Fashioned Gabbar but I find it too cloying. If you like a sweet tipple, go for that one. My second choice, not at the "nice price," is their Manhattan. It's my favorite alcoholic drink for 8 months out of the year and the skilled bartenders here always craft a good one. Unlike some happy hour offerings, where you wonder if a bottle of booze was ever even in the vicinity of your glass (looking at you, Double Knot), you are assured a tasty adult strength drink here. Warning: should you order the Drunken Lassi (not on the happy hour menu), it packs a stealth wallop so be moderate, as it's more-ish, dessert sweet, delicious as sin and goes down fast and easy. If you are sober or sober curious, Veda has some reasonably priced mocktails as well as some non-alcoholic canned beers as part of their bar program. My happy hour food go tos are the tandoori grilled salad and the samosa chaat. if I'm feeling flush and expansive, I order the crispy spinach chaat from the dinner menu. It's a few dollars more than what's listed for happy hour, but it's such a marvelous complement to Veda's version of a gin and tonic, I don't begrudge myself the extra $2 for this treat. I also appreciate the fact that if I do order this, the helpful folks serving me alert me to the fact the dish will not be rung up at a happy hour price. Love transparency when eating and drinking somewhere. The current bartenders here are marvelously adept at sussing out if a patron wants to chat or be left alone which has afforded me both a few hours of pleasant, solitary, slightly snockered reading and eating as well as some lively, humourous conversations. I might be really picky about my Indian food (understandably) so my ratings aren't going to be really high for this place. I went here for a friend's baby shower. I really liked the space. They have a great sized bar and a good amount of dine in space as well. The back had a buffet style for this event. I really liked the Indian graphic designed wall. The service was excellent...the wait staff are amazing and really hustled. The buffet was ok. I like my Indian food spicy but definitely this place is Americanized. I really have to say though this place had two stand out dishes- crispy spinach chaat and the kulfi with blueberries. The kulfi was the best I have ever had. I haven't heard of blueberries on top before so it was definitely an interesting twist. Great food, drinks, service, and ambiance! We are so glad that we finally made it into Veda. There was a time before the pandemic where we worked out nearby at RowZone and always wanted to go, but we were never in the position to go (well, we could have, but we don't think it would have been too kind to go in there a sweaty, gross mess while others were enjoying a great meal). The space is great with a large bar with ample seating. We are bar sitters when it's just the two of us, and really enjoyed the exceptional drinks and service during a Yelp event, so we couldn't help but stay for dinner. And we are certainly glad that we did! I'm a sucker for a good tandoori chicken and they delivered here. It was very moist, and was the perfect potion size if you ask me. Their naan was some of the best I have ever had, too. My husband got the lamb vindaloo and it too was delicious and a perfect size. They nailed their spice levels - I got a three and he got a four. Sometimes when restaurants ask, I often feel like I end up with the opposite of what I ordered which wasn't the case here. Like I noted, service is great. Our server Nikki was very very helpful and polite. So full marks for her. Two things. 1) people working in restaurants- be it server or bus persons should NEVER have long hair open. 2) this place needs thorough cleaning and maintenance. The décor is very colorful and warm, a total amazement compared to what it looks like on the outside. I love that the bathroom sink is leveled nice and high for tall people. My waiter was very chill along with those who assisted him. My chicken dish was good but I didn't taste much of the spices in the broth like I did in the lamb. Such a cuteee restaurant with the tastiest apps and nicest staff. They have happy hr 7days a week which is around the time I visited. The ambiance is warm and pretty. It's perfect for a date night or smaller groups. The menu is extensive and the bar is full. Dress code is definitely a bit of everything, but a bit nicer than it is casual. They somehow made cauliflower taste better than chicken and I eat all the meats. This is a unique place. My wife and I are Indian food connoisseurs. We've had it all over the city. And there was a lot that we really liked here. The Paneer Makhani was quite tasty. We really loved the Reshmi Kabob. She really loved the Drunken Lassi. We also sampled the ribs and samosas. We enjoyed everything we ate. But I would also say that if we are in the city looking for authentic Indian food, this wouldn't be our choice. It's excellent cuisine. But it's very Americanized. Which is perfectly ok. I really liked how they cooked their chicken & shrimp; it was really juicy and tender.
