This was our group's first time here. We came in and were greeted by very friendly staff. We asked about the special for today and it was meatloaf, 2 veggies and bread. He said the meatloaf was so good it would make a puppy pull a freight train. Lol. He wasn't our server but we ordered the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and mixed greens to split. Out friends ordered the 2 grilled chicken filets, Mac n cheese and pinto beans. Our server was very apologetic about the items they were out of- which was a pretty long list. In this day and time that is not uncommon so we were patient about the situation. We told the guy who told us the dog story that we wanted to see the dog because we ordered the meatloaf. He said "I'm not lying. A guy got some on his forehead and his tongue kept slapping his face." Lol. The food came and it was indeed delicious. We never did see that dog though. I didn't take pics of our friends' plate but they said it was really good. The server was new but very good. The food came out quickly. It was all delicious. If we're over this way again we will certainly come in again.

Chicken casserole special, macaroni salad, and cornbread salad.

We went just at the end of the lunch hour. You seat yourself, so I could see getting lost if they were busy. Since there were only four other people there, we were noticed right away and told to sit wherever we wanted. The booths are well worn but clean. Our server told us they had two specials, a chicken casserole and pork chops. I decided on the casserole with cornbread salad and macaroni salad as the sides. It also comes with cornbread or a biscuit. I chose the cornbread. My dining partner ordered a grilled chicken salad. The food took about 15 minutes to get to the table. The chicken casserole had shredded chicken which was tender and moist. The dressing on top was also moist. The sauce was sort of a gravy consistency with a cheese flavor. Although it was served warm, not hot, the taste was good. I would order it again. The macaroni salad was nothing special. The corn bread salad was very creamy. It had decent flavor. The piece of corn bread was somewhat over done and very dry. It didn't have a lot of corn flavor. My dining partner enjoyed the grilled chicken salad. The grilled chicken was very moist and flavorful. There was also a lot on the salad. Everything else in the salad was fine. There are a lot of regulars, and the staff seemed to know most everyone. We did see one couple who came in and sat in the back who were not noticed for at least 10 minutes. They were regulars too and were not upset. It's something to keep in mind as you decide where to sit.

We ordered fried mushrooms to start. The portion was so large we could have shared it with two other people! The mushrooms were fried to perfection and were so yummy. I ordered the fried clams and fries for my entree and it came with hushpuppies. My hubby got fried shrimp. It's a good thing I got the smaller senior portion because oh my goodness the portions were so large! My fried clams were the best that I have ever had they were absolutely delicious crispy on the outside, tender in the middle. Under my bed of crispy fries, I found what I thought was a stray onion ring until I took a bite. It was one of my hushpuppies! I have NEVER, had a hushpuppy in a ring shape. It tasted amazing! My new favorite hushpuppies of all time. My husband's massive plate of fried shrimp was equally as good. We ate till almost bursting. LOL Our server was incredibly nice and attentive. The restaurant environment is casual, open concept with a seafarers flair. Restrooms were clean too. It's a great place for large groups and family. If you love seafood, grilled or fried, come here. It will not disappoint.

They happily greeted and seated us as soon as we came in the door. The ambience was clean and inviting and the tables were spaced, just right so you're not sitting on top of your neighbor, but what really got us was the food oh my gosh, it was amazing.! Those were some of the best fried clams, shrimp and mushrooms we've had in a long time. I don't often give five stars but Mayflower did a fantastic job. You have to give them a try.

I think…read moreShirley's has more business than they can handle, and have clearly cut some corners to keep up. Our meal began with biscuits, which were obviously frozen and out of a bag. Eager to save room for the rest of the meal, I set it aside and waited for our entrees and sides to come. The chicken, which I remembered as being hot and crispy, arrived cold and soggy, and I swear to you those mashed potatoes were out of a box. I tried to soothe myself with some macaroni and cheese to no avail...the recipe had clearly changed since the last time we visited and there was no cheese to be found. COME ON. The final blow was that the yellow cake with caramel icing that I so looked forward to was dry and had obviously sat for a few days before being served. Tragic. The only pleasant things on the plate were the country ham and green beans, but trust me, they aren't good enough to warrant the price tag of this meal. We won't be back.

There were photos on the wall of one of the teams I had coached. I asked someone about it and it turned out I had coached the person I asked. It made my morning. The service was very friendly and the food was tasty with ample portions. The cost was very reasonable. If I were to be in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here for breakfast again. We stopped for dinner the first night and I went back in the morning for breakfast. Nothing fancy small diner that the locals frequent. They have daily specials. They have all of the regular southern fair. Bestie said the cornbread reminded her of her nana (who was from Harlan County, Kentucky - so that tells me this is OG Appalachian cornbread). It's not like your typical Northeastern sweet cornbread. The menu had all your typical southern fair chicken fried steak soup beans, and cornbread. They serve breakfast all day. She got the beef vegetable soup with the cornbread. Beef vegetable soup was Campbell's. I had the patty melt, which was amazing. It was a 10 ounce freshly made patty on rye toast with grilled onions and Swiss cheese. It was the best patty melt. I've had in many years. My meal came with a small side of critical cut fries that were delicious. Service was friendly and fast. We went with besties's cousin for breakfast the next morning. I have the two eggs over easy with a biscuit and sausage gravy and two strips of bacon. That biscuit was amazing as a sausage gravy. Bacon was crisp and delicious. Service was again very fast and friendly they checked on us numerous times to freshen our coffee, which was greatly appreciated. If you're staying near Bristol or in Bluff City etc. check out the Bluff City Diner. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was really good and the prices are extremely reasonable plenty of offstreet parking easy access for those who might have mobility issues.
