On our way up Hwy 395 we spent some time in Alabama Hills and on the way out our truck overheated! The nearest auto place was Napa, and we got there thankfully by stopping multiple times and letting it cool down.. inching a little more and cooling down. I read on other reviews that they had a very knowledge guy named Freddy, so looked for him as soon as we got there. God bless this man! Not only was he knowledgeable, he was very helpful and honest, showed us the parts we needed and got us back on the road in no time The last thing anyone wants is to breakdown down in the middle of a road trip, but thankfully Freddy was there to help us out! So, how do you thank someone for saving your bacon? If you don't read further, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Stop here for parts, tell them i sent you lol. My story, My battery indicator started blinking stating the battery wasn't charging several miles up Sherwin Grade, just north of Bishop. i was headed south. I stopped into bishop at one of the new chain auto parts stores. The guy there tested the battery, tried to help, and he thought i could make it 180 miles to the destination. Not wanting to get towed to my destination, I pressed the I Believe Button, although i didn't. I also thought the longer i drove, the shorter the tow. Drove the truck (and trailer) to Lone Pine, we stopped at Napa because the battery voltage was dropping and knew we weren't going to make it. The kid (20's to 30's) came out checked the battery, and during the course of the conversation we determined the alternator died. He kindly offered to let me borrow some tools, but thankfully we had the tools we needed. Napa had the part (two options). In swapping out the parts, i ran into a few things i didn't know, like how to release tension on the serpentine belt, in my defense, the last chevy i worked on was a 74 pickup (in 78). the older guy (30's to 40's to say really not old) kindly educated me on the belt tensioner (how easy) and how to tell the difference between the parts. It reminded me about how awesome folks from a small town can be. They saved my trip. read more

Just completed the Death Valley northern loop and pulled into the Pizza Factory parking lot in Lone Pine. The brake pedal went to the floor due to a broken rear hard brake line. The pizza delivery guy texted the NAPA guys. Ramon showed up within 5mins even though the store was closed for the evening. He did a quick inspection and guaranteed they had the parts and tools to fix the brake line. The next morning we tugged my truck to the NAPA store parking lot. Freddy came out and helped me patch the broken line using his tools. In a few hours I had a fixed brake line and was back on the road to complete our journey back home safely. Freddy is a saint. We drove through Death Valley and our always-been-reliable car overheated. 15 minutes before closing time we limped into NAPA Auto Parts. After describing our problem Freddy told us he was pretty sure he know what the problem was, walked with us to our car, did a quick check, and confirmed the problem. He gathered the right parts, installed them, told us how to test the repair and volunteered to stay late and leave the door open so we could finish the test and report back that all was well. Like many of the other reviews here, I ran into some mechanical problems in Death Valley and the staff at Napa in Lone Pine went about and beyond to assist. The service here is outstanding and I can't recommend this place enough. I had an odd problem while off-roading and lost the nut off of the bolt which holds the leaf spring on onto the mount of the truck and almost lost the bolt as well. I was able to limp the truck into Lone Pine without losing the leaf spring altogether, only to find the service station closed. I went to Napa has my second option and I am glad I did. The staff at Napa were amazing, in helping me trouble shoot various options to fix the leaf spring and loaned me both shop tools and even their own personal tools to help me make the fix. After about two hours in the parking lot working on my truck with their advice and tools, I was able to make the fix and hit the road again. If it wasn't for the staff at Napa, I am not sure what I would have done. In my 2+ hours at Napa, I also saw them interact with many other customers and I can say that my experience is not an outlier. I saw them help out another off roader who needed to replace a brake line, as well as helping out locals with their auto part needs. They provided amazing customer service to everyone and helped them all figure out what they needed. Thanks to the team at Napa and again, I can't recommend them enough. read more

I wish I could give Dave and his crew more than five stars. After gassing up our truck in Lone Pine the truck would not start. We determined it was the battery, and after getting a jump from Miller's Towing (I reviewed them, also) we headed to Dave's Napa Auto Parts. My husband went in, explained our situation, and in no time at all Cassie arranged for a new battery. My husband installed the battery and Dave and his employee (unfortunately I did not get his name, but he deserves accolades himself) checked it out to make sure we were good to go. We made it home, and today the truck is running just fine. Everyone at this store was so very gracious and pleasant. After developing a strange noise on my motorcycle I found myself troubleshooting the problem at a gas station across the street from Dave's Auto Parts in Lone Pine, Ca. After attempting to locate a motorcycle dealership close by with no luck, I walked into Dave's Auto Parts across the street to ask if there was a mechanic in the area. The young lady behind the counter gave me a big smile and called Dave out of the back room. He was very helpful in troubleshooting the problem and let me work on my bike behind his store with access to his tools and keeps some common parts in stock for motorcycles. This was what I needed to keep me going on my trip. I can't give enough Thanks to Dave and his daughter. It's good to know there are still very good people in this world. read more

Like many other reviewers, I ran into trouble on a long car trip (which was actually in a bus.) I was driving to Idaho and back within the span of a week with a child, a cat, and no AC in the middle of June! Looooong story short, Dave's shop went ABOVE and Beyond. He made THREE trips out to my bus to look at my unique issue (water pump not working),explored several options with me while I tried to troubleshoot with the builder of the bus, taught me how to strip wires so I could splice the pump cable onto a cigarette lighter he sold me, and BOOM-I had running water in my bus again. He was courteous, kind, educated me without being patronizing (huge plus, thank you) and sent me back on the road feeling like I had leveled up in my knowledge and skill in caring for my own rig. I was fortunate to come to this store and get an unbelievable service and expertise. I was visiting the Death Valley area with friends when my 2013 Subaru Outback started overheating and causing lots of unsettling feelings and potentially cause derailment to some of our planned adventures. After stopping by a local auto mechanic who wouldn't even hear me or look at my car until the next day (BTW, I didn't even see a single car in the shop), I certainly lost some hope but headed to Napa Auto store just to pick up some coolant. Freddy, who works there, is a true gift of the gods. He overheard my conversation with another clerk about "Subaru...overheating...coolant" and offered to look at it. Within minutes he diagnosed the problem to be a radiator cap issue. The spring loaded pressure relief valve had broken off on my original cap. After checking the system, he realized that the cap is not in stock but could be delivered the next day. It was certainly a great news for me, even if I had to leave the car and come back the next day. And then, he took my broken radiator cap, told me to hang on, went to the back and found a similar replacement from a different car and make. He then helped me drain the water I had previously filled the system with, refill the system, install the cap, send me on a quick test drive and get me back on the road. People like Freddy, who have an unconditional and sincere willingness to help, give me hope and reinforce my faith in humanity. read more

My cars AC stopped working on my way home from Mammoth on what felt like the hottest day of the year. I called several shops in Bishop to see if they could take a quick look at it. Very few will work on AC and most of the ones that did said I would have to make an appointment for later in the week. As a last ditch effort I stopped at Napa and was going to buy a can of Freon and the hose to install it. Freddy let me borrow his pressure hose and even came out with an IR thermometer to make sure I did it right. Best $20 I ever spent. read more

Had an issue on our VW this weekend after climbing Mt Langely, after a local mechanic tried to hold us over the coals for $200 on a part that he didn't know and didn't really care when it would arrive- Napa had it in the store at 8AM the next morning for $25. Yesterday (8/5/14) I had a charging issue with my 2004 HD Road King in Lone Pine as I was riding from Mammoth to LA. John at Miller Towing first loaned me some tools so I could check my battery cables but when that wasn't the problem he sent me to Dave, the owner of NAPA Auto Parts. When Dave's voltmeter showed no charge at the battery, because I was heading 200+ miles he suggested I disconnect my headlight, charge the battery, and make a run for it. We put the battery on the charger for an hour or so and I then made it all the way home -- although barely, it honestly was dying as I pulled onto my street -- saving me from getting stuck in Lone Pine for several days and having to spend a LOT of $$ for repairs that I will now be able to do myself. read more

While driving up to Lake Tahoe with my girlfriend the CV axle on my VW GTI started going out on me right as I was passing through Lone Pine... had my girlfriend not been with me I might have chanced getting all the way up on a knocking axle but fortunately she talked some sense into me and I called the Napa Auto Parts right up the street. Luis picked up the phone and assured me he could get the part the next day... turns out that Luis coincidentally happens to own the same vehicle, had all the specialty tools required to do the job, and was kind enough to lend then to me. Luis and his coworker Freddy saved my trip! - getting me the parts I needed quick and letting me borrow the tools I needed to fix my car on the spot. Our AC stopped working on the way home from Mammoth. Freddy came out in the parking lot to assist us. He was going to add freon, but as it turns out it was some kind of glitch that caused the AC to stop working. Once we turned the car back on, the AC started to work again! However, Freddy must have spent a good 15 minutes checking to make sure it actually was working properly. I also mentioned that I felt like we might be low on oil, and he checked out that for us as well. Turns out we were very low, and Freddy added a quart and a half for us. Awesome service + honest! If you ever breakdown do it in Lone Pine!!! The funny thing was another truck had the same exact alternator issue as us and pulled in right after us.
