Ray does not how to do his job, I asked him what oil my car needed and he sent me to the other guy, even though Ray wasn't doing anything.

Great support guys. Down to business. Needed a starter, they had it in stock at a fair price. Easy in and easy out.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the rest of the service department. Maybe oil changes and routine maintenance are their specialty. But when it came to diagnosing the check engine light on my 2006 Prius, they completely missed the mark. My Prius threw a check engine light while I was on a road trip up Highway 395. I had it towed to Perry Motors. They said they fixed it, but thankfully I took it for a test drive before leaving because the check engine light came right back on. I got charged a diagnostic fee - fair enough. They couldn't diagnose the problem and kept insisting it was an oil issue. The problem? I'd already had the oil changed at another Toyota dealer before the trip, so I knew that wasn't it. To make matters worse, another service manager actually told me, "It's OK to drive with the check engine light on--we do it all the time." I found that advice pretty disturbing  I finally took my car to J&S Automotive, where Juan Santana worked his magic. Juan is a true car whisperer--thorough, intuitive, and someone who genuinely cares about getting to the root of the problem instead of guessing. More than 400 miles later, my Prius hasn't missed a beat.  Moreover he did not charge me a diagnostic fee and took me in right away despite it being the 4th of July weekend His shop is busy and plastered with incredible reviews and I can see why he is fondly known as Saint Juan Santana - patron saint of car troubles on 395! Would I recommend Perry Motors? Sure, for basic maintenance like oil changes and routine services that follow the handbook. For real diagnostic work? I'd skip Perry and head straight to J&S Automotive.

But there have been several times when they've been able to accommodate me fairly last minute for a more simple check up or repair. Waiting room is super comfy too!

These guys saved my ass. On a recent trip to Yosemite, my radiator hose sprang a leak and I needed…read moreto get back to LA (my buddy was flying home the next morning). We tried to duct tape the leak, but that just wasn't going to hold up for the long trip back. After finding out the only auto parts store in Mammoth was closed and the local mechanics were unwilling to do anything, we headed to Bishop to try and get some parts at Kragen. When we showed up, I told them my make and model and they didn't have the part I needed. The guys there were very friendly and tried to come up with an alternative. They threw out a few ideas and one of them took a look at my radiator hose. He exclaimed, "we can make something work!" and ran off. A few seconds later, he reemerged with a different radiator hose, longer but had some similar bends as mine. He said we could cut that hose to make it fit. He provided all the tools for the job and stood by and gave advice while we made the repair in the parking lot. Afterwards, they even let us clean up in the employee's only bathroom. Sure enough, the hose held up and we made it back to LA with no problems. Without their help, my buddy would have missed his flight and/or my engine would have ended up in some expensive repairs. Hell, I'd probably be on the side of the road right now. So thanks fellas, I owe you one!

Driving into Bishop we saw the highway advisory signs that says Chains Required when driving up to…read moreMammoth. So the first thing we did once we got to our hotel in Bishop was look for a store that carries chains since it's required. Granted we do have a vehicle that is AWD, but if we get pulled over and don't have chains then the highway patrol can give us a ticket for not having chains, anyways, better to be safe than sorry. So we pull up good ol google maps on the iphones and thanks to At&t service in the bishop area, even yelp wasn't connecting. iphone FAILED and wasn't finding any stores at all. So we had to be all resourceful and use the ol yellow pages to look for auto parts store that carries chains. I remembered reading on some board that the walmart in bishop carries chains, so we called that place first, but they didn't have our chains that will fit our size tires. it's not my fault we ride on 22s. So we look for an auto parts store, Kragen was the first one that we thought of but just a little trivia - Kragen isn't under the K's for Kragen you'll find it under O for O'reily Auto Parts! and success, they have chains for our front tires! We drive 2 minutes and we're set for driving up to mammoth. I'm sure they have a bunch of other Auto Supply parts, but we only needed chains and they pulled through for us. So we now have chains for our vehicle. whoohooo thank you O'riley Kragen Auto Parts!
