Every year as I visit Chicago, and I make sure to stop at Naper Nuts & Sweets. They make the BEST caramel popcorn around! I usually eat the first large bag as I walk along the Naperville Riverwalk. Naper Nuts & Sweets reminds me of my childhood and that's such a happy thought. I remember begging my mom to stop in here for some candy any time we passed by. I knew I had to place the order a day in advance, which was no problem at all. I let them know what time I needed to pick it up by, and they had it ready to go by then! I haven't tried a lot at stuff this place except for the caramel and cheese popcorns. I was looking for Garrett's famous caramel and cheese popcorn near my home and came across this place. Their selection of popcorn is not as huge as Garrett's, but this place does satisfy your occasional urge for a good bag of my fav Caramel and Cheese Popcorn. Long counter separates the candy-oglers from the jars of candy on the shelves. It has an awesome, old-fashioned feel. Awesome does not even begin to describe this place. Just by chance, I saw one of the employees was in the window filling up bags of caramel corn. In a candy mood, I made a beeline inside. I love the old timey feel of the place. As soon as you walk in, there are chocolate covered creations to greet you. They have homemade fudge, jars of gummies and jelly beans in every flavor imaginable and the old stand by candies like Reese's and Snickers lining the shelves. Plus there's a lot of the old "vintage" type candies (taboo candy cigarettes, anyone?) in stock as well. It's almost a sugary sensory overload to walk in. I decided to grab a bag of the caramel corn and peanut butter Snickers. The caramel corn was outstanding! I can honestly say I have never had caramel corn that good. It was so buttery and yummy. Holy freaking overwhelment. I don't care if I made that word up. That's exactly what I felt. It was part nostalgic drooling, part panic from too many options, part toothache from looking at all the sugar. If you know exactly what you want, you're set. My sister and I, on the other hand, were somewhat overstimulated and indecisive. In the time we were in the shop, we probably had every employee ask if we knew what we wanted, each one sounding more impatient than the one before. Perhaps we seemed like we were just loitering, but I had the intention of going home with a big bag candy but after being more or less dismissed by the staff, we settled for a few small items (which I'm pretty sure they overcharged us for). It's amazing what such a small store carries! They know how to please EVERYONE---candies, chocolates, popcorn, fudge, & novelty items for anyone between 0-100+! My DAD loves UNO bars--do you remember those??? Well, they have them! And DAD is getting a few in his Christmas package this year. YUM! I KNOW he will love them. Worked here for a few months while attending college. The staff is incredible, and I highly doubt you will ever leave the store without a smile. The store carries rare candy like flying saucers, wax bottles, etc., and is also willing to track down your favorite candy. (I once saw an order for banana flavored gummi bears...) I actually like this candy store but it doesn't wow me. I always enjoy walking in here and getting something sweet. The ladies behind the counter are very nice but I think they don't value there customers. I say this because as I was leaving out of the store tonight, a lady and her two young kids were trying to come in to buy some candy and they would not let them in because they were getting ready to close. I don't think that's right because of the two little kids, they look like they were going to cry and I wanted to give them my candy but I didn't feel that was right either. I cannot believe the selection here. I have a sweet tooth that will be the end of me, so I try to stay out, but if you can think of a type of candy, my money says they'll have it here. A counter full of bulk glass jars, and walls of assorted goodies...oh man. Do not miss the "liquorice caramels." I don't know who makes them, it's not written on the wrapper, I just know roughly where in the store to look (about halfway down, underneath the counter.) If you like liquorice (not jelly bean liquorice, but Bassetts liquorice), and you like caramel (no one doesn't) then this the treat for you. I'm seriously addicted. Their (many) other caramel flavors are also delicious. Even if you hate candy - support local businesses and buy it for someone else. An old time candy store with everything you'd want. Located on the main shopping strip in downtown Naperville, this place was buzzing with activity on a Saturday afternoon. Gummies, candy buttons, the tart Smarties lollipops, taffy and almost everything you can imagine, including candy encased scorpions or chocolate covered grubs if that's your fancy. I was amazed they had entire jars of the little marble-sized Sixlet candies in every color. The lady who helped me I believe her name is sue was very rude to me, I was on the phone with a family member speaking my native language and she proceeded to be rude to me and asked me multiple times if I have decided on what I wanted when I told her to please give me a moment. Hard to believe stores like this still exist. Independently owned, this is an old fashioned candy store. They sell chocolate truffles, fudge, and any type of hard candy that you could think of. Perfect if you want to get your kid a small treat, but don't want them bouncing off the walls all night. I like the dark chocolate truffles. They also have soft serve ice cream, but I would skip it. I have never been a fan of caramel popcorn, nor do I even like caramel popcorn, but whenever I come to this little shop, I always have to get a bag! Right when you walk in you always see fresh popcorn in the making and the sweet smells just drift towards your nose. Honestly, when you see people making popcorn constantly in the store, you KNOW it's going to be good. Who says good popcorn is only in Chicago?! Also, try their FUDGE. Oh goodness, it is so rich and dense, and people who are chocolate lovers will be in heaven. They also make their own fudge, so it has a homemade touch. When friends visit town, I like to get them a bag of caramel corn and fudge- what sums up Chicago more than popcorn and chocolate? I'll be honest, when I was in jr. high and high school, I use to love coming in and grabbing a bag of random gummies and then snacking on them while I walked through dt. It was my 1st time to shop at this place cause they were the only store hasn't sold out the Naperville Old Fashion English Toffee. I also brought some gummy worms which is a big mistake. The cashier put on her thin clear grove and went thru approx. 7 - 10 gummy jugs cause I wanted to have different flavor. The problem is she used the same hand (with glove) to lift up each lid from the jug and to grab the gummy from the jug. I should have complained to her right away cause those gummy jugs are only 1 ft away along the cashier line which means those lids are exposed to crowded airborne particles all day. When I tried to wrap the English Toffee boxes and I found greasy finger prints all over them and it probably is the greasy buttery air from the popcorn machine at the entrance. Now I realized that store is not cleaned and the cashier has mishandling my gummy worms. She shouldn't grab the candy with the same hand after she touched the (7 - 10) lids. I believe her glove may have lift up some dust or germs from those dirty lids. I called the store and asked to speak to the manager if I can exchange the gummy because I don't want to take any chances with the covid is still spreading and she said ok. After I wasted my 1/2 hrs drive to the store and looping around the area 3 times in order to find a parking, she refused to honor what she has promised me over the phone. Instead she told me to buy more. she said they clean all the candy jugs's lids every night and then when I said the store is always crowed and people in and out the store all days from everywhere she immediately changed the cleaning story to clean frequently thru out the day instead of the end of the day. She said she can't take any food back due to the pandemic but it's ok for them to sell me the mishandling food. They were so rude and they told me to come to the store and then broke their promise. This is not a sweet store and I regret to waste $75 at this place. They did something wrong and they said it was my problem. read more
