I'd say the only challenge about the Naperville location is the parking, though it does have a lot and a deck across the street. Cute shop! The girls at the counter were very knowledgeable. They have literally every spice you can think of. They even have explanations for their spice blends and a jar of said spice that you can open and smell (maybe even try?). We bought a small cheese blend that can go on top of salads/fries/pop corn. I buy all my spices from Penzey's. I'm lucky enough to have a store less than 10 minutes from me so I can pop over in an "emergency" and not have to waste money on grocery store spices. The spices and seasonings are always top tier. They taste fresh even if you don't manage to use them up before they expire. I love that they have many salt free seasoning blends. This store in Naperville is now our go-to place for spices, herbs, seasonings, extracts and the like. Penzeys used to have a location in Oak Park but that one closed up a few years ago, and now Naperville is really the main location out south. All of Penzeys stores are company owned, so you won't get any variance like you might experience at franchises. Besides the obvious (that they have scores of offerings), they generally offer three sizes of most items. Small one-inch tall bottles for the occasional user, larger half-cup sized bottles for a more convenient portion, and usually an even larger bag that big users go for or use for refills. This is all wonderful stuff - and each station where they present their wares is usually accompanied by an open container that is there just for the customer to sniff - neat and simple idea. Penzeys is located in the center of downtown Naperville - the oldest portion of the city. The area is bright, busy and full of people shopping. Parking is problematic in front of the store - 15 minute limit - but you can sometimes find parking in other areas or the large downtown parking facility. Penzeys is worth the visit for cooks and people who like to try spicing up their daily routine - pun intended. Give this place a try. read more

This location is smack dab in the midst of downtown Naperville. This is a great place for spices. As others have said, it is really cool that there are sample jars out for you to see and smell the spices available. If you are looking for a particular spice, you will definitely find it here. They also have seasonings you can top your salads with, soup bases, and dessert things. I think the price is worth the quality of what is sold here. Customer service was great too. We were able to save a few bucks on our order, once one of the employees noticed that we had bought a few things on special. I appreciate her telling us that. A great place to spice things up! I'm talking about your food. This little shop has lots of options for adding flavor to your food whether you cook it in your kitchen or out on your grill. Hubby had to load up on pepper as he is a pepper snob. We have white pepper as well as black pepper and he has to get the whole peppercorns and grinders for authenticity. I was looking around for some ideas and found 2 different multi spice rubs for chicken and pork. I'm all about slapping some spices on it to add some great flavor! My husband was doing tests at Beaumont Hospital, and because of covid I could not go in. We are 1 hour drive away and I wanted to purchase the Vietnamese cinnamon. This is a legitimately great source for high quality sodium-free spices. Some people are complaining about the owners' political views - but we all purchase items from companies who's policies are not 100% in alignment with our own (Apple, Facebook, Chic-fil-a) and so forth. You can find cheaper spices but they're often very high in salt. Since salt is so inexpensive it acts as a cheap filler which makes the container cheaper - this is NOT the case at Penney's. Their stuff is free from that and the price tag reflects it. The selection is impressive and if you need a good quality source for fresh, well mixed spices, this is a convenient option. read more

I was worried when I heard they were moving, but I really love the new location! Excellent choice! The new location is huge and has an adorable oldie time kitchen display in the back with all of their cinnamons. Also, they have restrooms, which is great since I often take awhile to decide on what to get. Parking tip: there is parking (and an entrance) behind the building that works out perfectly. I wish I could describe when to turn in, it's the alleyway behind Rosebud that gets you into the lot, and it's a bit hard to see but Penzey's has their name on the back door that you enter through. I made my first visit to Penzeys the Saturday before Christmas. Walking in, I immediately loved the layout and how each section was clearly labled (Herbs, Chili, Seasonings, etc). Initially I wasn't looking for anything in particular (I had recently stocked up on spices at Geneva Spice House), but I ended up finding the perfect gift set for someone. The part I like about Penzeys is that the smell isn't overwhelming when you walk in. GSH has a very strong smell; enough to give you a terrible headache. Not Penzeys. There was a very pleasant aroma that was just enough to entice you spend your money there. Well played. Their prices may seem to be a big on the high side, but it seems the quality of the spices makes it worth it. You can also get small "test" jars, so you're not overspending on something you're not quite sure about. It's nice that they have multiple varieties of gift sets, so you're bound to find the perfect gift for any occasion. I myself had my eye on the "Spicy Wedding Set" (if I get married, that'll be the first thing I'll beg people to get me. Ha!) I do NOT like parking in downtown Naperville, and I spent nearly ten minutes ciricling the parking garage ten times, waiting for a spot. I know there's immediate lot parking by Penzeys, but I didn't even bother looking over there. Once I parked, I looked around the private lot and sure enough, all those spots were full.
