I had the pleasure to do a dinner and a pizza class with Renato!! My first experience with Renato not only did he make us feel like Family, his fun bubbly energetic personality and his love for cooking and an Amazing cook WOW! For starters he made us zucchini boats, meat and cheese platter. Main dish was carbonara and dessert was tiramisu.. and WOW!!! Let me tell you never buying tiramisu at Costco. All these ingredients from his garden & meat and cheese's from his distributors. During the whole process talked to us the importance of fresh ingredients and of course All of us questioning him about Italy. I had an amazing time that I planned a pizza class. The reason I decided to do a pizza class was for my daughter since the previous time she didn't join us. We had the absolute pleasure of hosting an Italian cooking class with Chef Renato. He came to our home, and we invited three other couples to join us. Some cook, some don't, but we all love good food. What an experience. From the moment he walked through the door, Chef Renato was the star of the show. The first was a private pizza making class in our house that so wonderful I didn't think anything could compare. But we booked a group gnocchi making class a few weeks ago and it was a memorable night filled with wine, laughter, and some of the best food we've ever had. Renato provides everything for the evening and all you need is a willingness to learn. We showed up to his spacious and state-of-the-art kitchen, Renato immediately served us wine and appetizers he made from scratch, and then we spent the next few hours making four different types of gnocchi, each more delicious than the last. We cooked with a great couple visiting from California and had a blast connecting over stories and food. Renato's instruction is helpful and things move quickly in the kitchen but he's patient and hilarious. I have now had two experiences with these wonderful people and Renato who is an extraordinary chef! First was a private multi course dinner with friends that was so much fun, delicious and exciting. The food was unique, special and included things many of us had not tried. We wanted to be surprised and we were - happily! The 2nd experience was with a online cooking class. Renato came to our home for a cooking lesson with my family, including my 7 year old son. He was AMAZING!!! The food was delicious (focaccia, caprese, olives, marinated salami, 2 pasta dishes). Renato patiently helped my son chop zucchini and mushrooms and knead the pasta dough. We had never made pasta before, but Renato made it fun and easy. Now my son wants to make it everyday. (He will have to live with disappointment.) Renato was very friendly and fun. The class also helped give my husband confidence that he can cook this delicious food on his own as well. We were lucky enough to have Renato Solpietro & Adrienne Davis cater our Thanksgiving this year. It was spectacular. We chose the top of his 4 menu categories, namely the Suite Multicourse option because we wanted the irrepressible Renato to have total freedom to create. He also offered to bring the wines which of course were all Italian and all very good. The Nero d'Avola and Brunello di Montalcino were particularly good. When we walked into the community room we had rented for the occasion, every visible surface was covered with platters of crostini including goat cheese and olive tapenade, and rolled up prosciutto, and skewers of mozzarella and cherry tomatoes etc. I should mention that we hadn't asked for it but Renato mentioned in his preview but there would be a "welcome Prosecco Aperitivo" and indeed a tray of flutes were waiting for us. I can't tell you how delightful it was to have all these details taken care of. I totally enjoyed myself. He then passed the turkey meatballs wrapped in thin lemon peel that he designed for the occasion, I believe, the only concession to traditional American Thanksgiving. Which was fine with us! After that he introduced course after course including sfoglia, a kind of savory strudel which he had filled with sausage (a recipe of his own device), another with mushrooms (my favorite), and a vegan one filled with among other things eggplant. I should mention that he really created two separate menus because we had a vegan/vegetarian family with us. He made a vegan version of every single dish!They were ecstatic. This is not a complete list of every course but we rolled through seafood risotto, baked Sea bass, and rabbit cacciatore and ended with panna cotta and chocolate salami. And at the conclusion his homemade Limoncello cremoso. Renato introduced every course and explained it to us in his exuberant way but didn't commandeer the conversation. He had asked us before hand if we wanted him to bring "an Italian singer" and we said yes, so midway through the proceedings a wonderful Calabrian singer named Andrea Aleghieri set up his guitar and mic and sang soulful Italian ballads in the background. It was just a huge amount of fun and everybody had a wonderful time. Really we didn't just get delizioso food, we got an event. As my brother said at the end, "What a boffo Thanksgiving!" read more

I had arranged for a private cooking lesson with Renato for my wife's Birthday celebration while we were visiting Portland. I had several special requests, like nice Oregon Wine Pairings, that he was more then gracious to accommodate. We made fresh pizza dough, fresh pasta dough, amazing zucchini appetizers, yummy pizza sauce, yummy pasta sauce, and it was all paired with a couple of nice Oregon Wines. Renato was a great teacher, very informative, instructive, and simply fun. The food was delicious. We have since made several of the dishes we learned from him as they are easy, simple recipes that we will use again and again. My wife and I have taken many cooking classes, all over the world, and by far our time with Renato was one of the best experiences overall. I feel like we became friends that evening and would love to meet up with him again whenever we visit Portland. I would highly recommend Renato, I really don't think you can do better.
