Never been impressed with this place. How do they run a restaurant and think this table is ok? Room smelled like it's an old bathroom, stains all over their mismatched chairs, crap lighting, walls that need to be cleaned and painted, horrible. When asked if we could go to an actual table they said no. Should have been the first sign to just leave. Service isn't any better. They will bring new plates and not clear the old ones off the table to the point where we had to just put the plates on the floor. After getting our food, they didn't even have soy sauce or other condiments on the table. Isn't this a sushi place? Food isn't great, if you want way better sushi go to Yoi Tomo, they actually let people order their own food and not have to get the all you can eat if others in your party want all you can eat. Stupid policy, some people only want 1 sushi roll and not to be forced to pig out on all you can eat. This place is good for the all you can eat price of $32 a person. If the price goes up or if you buy individually it's not worth it. MOST of the food tastes fresh on the sushi side, the steak was very very tiny, and the drinks were not good. I will say the staff is slow and the tables/booths were very sticky.. read more

It was my last day in Idaho yesterday and wanted to try out this place my friends who live there recommended. I was pleasantly surprised from the moment we walked in with the interior and decorations. Service was great from Anda from start to finish. We had a party of 6 and all went with the all you can eat option. One negative is the table is way too small for the booth in a sense of, the people on the edges couldn't sit back and relax. The food made up for the inconvenience. We got appetizers, sushi, and ramen. Everything was on point and portions were larger than I expected. We went the day after their soft opening. This does seem to be ONLY all you can eat, or at least that's the way it was explained to us. Lunch does not include sashimi or fried rice. All of the food was great! The meat in the ramen was just a tad hard to break up without a knife but tasted really good! They do have rice noodles if you cannot do gluten! We were seated and served very quickly and the waitress checked on us often to see if we wanted anything else! There were lots of new hires in training but everything seemed to be running pretty smoothly! They have done an amazing job remodeling the building and have some really neat seating. There are some chandeliers and other unique lighting and decorations! As smooth as it ran after just opening, I'm pretty sure it'll be even better later! Will be back to see! read more

I'll just say, don't believe everything you see on social media lol. This place is for sure a 1-2 star place. They can decorate cute all they want, it's not the case when you're in there. Took our granddaughter out for dinner, should have left honestly. They seated us up in the back room in a corner and you can't see anything else but unfinished restaurant. Smelled like urine, it was hard to enjoy anything. Service was good. Sushi was, well imitation crab overload in EVERYTHING kind of sushi. So if you like that. Terrible service. All you can eat is a scam. Our server never came and asked us for more food we had to go ask him to order and the never took a single dirty plate. When it was time to check out he apparently went on break and never came back and we waited 20 minutes for our check. read more

This place started out amazing. Service is great, food is starting to be average. The cleanliness of this place is disappointing and not sanitary. The bathrooms and the doors are black at the bottom and the floors are mopped with dirty water. It smelled last time. If you haven't already figured it out- this might be my favorite small chain of restaurants. The thing I love the most is that every location is different in terms of what they offer, the interiors and in this case- concepts. This specific Nara is AYCE- both at lunch and dinner. They have the same rolls as all other locations (except the one on State St which doesn't have Sushi) and same ramen options. This one does have a hibachi which none of the others have currently. The interior is beautiful and I love the glamorous art deco look. This is a great addition to downtown Caldwell. Service is the only thing that could use a slight improvement- but it's minimal in terms of what could be improved (and we were there on a slow Monday). Pricing is fair for AYCE- but I do wish they allowed To-go for leftovers (paid or not) at dinner (they do at lunch). read more

Finally! A great sushi experience in Idaho. We had four in our party and we got multiple appetizers, sashimi, and rolls. Every thing was delicious. Not a single item was disappointing. The sushi is OK here, but it's not great. It tasted fresh, but a lot of the sushi feels like it's just mashed up, like a paste, leaving the texture for some of the rolls something to be desired. The service was great, and the atmosphere was nice, but definitely not for me. read more

On a positive note, the food was good. We really enjoyed everything we got. We ordered the takoyaki appetizer, 4 sushi rolls, and the steak hibachi. Everything was great, and had a good start at coming out quickly. Our last two rolls that we ordered took a really long time to get to our table. I think they were done but just sitting for a while... which leads me to the service... Poor poor service, to put it nicely. Our server was very hard to get her attention. In between orders, we asked for more water, and it came after we were done eating. Multiple times I tried to get our server's attention for different things and she turned and walked away. The table next to us got their Ramen and asked for utensils, and the food runner told them "I'm sorry but I don't know who your server is". I felt so bad for the table because they had to wait so long before they got someone to bring them some utensils! When the rest of their food came, the server asked if they needed anything else and immediately walked away before they could respond. they did in fact need something else.. lol. It became pretty comical just how bad the service was. They had also not fully cleaned the restaurant after the remodel. The construction dust on the black walls and under the bar was very noticeable. I can only hope these are just growing pains of a new place, and that all these things get corrected or trained on. The sushi is super fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself has a lot of history to it and they made it very inviting and entertaining. I love the AYCE for $30.99 and even the small surcharge on a few items it's still a great deal. The only thing they need to work on is the timing and I would like to have what I ordered on an individual plate versus having everything delivered at once on a single plate. I'm talk about having more than 4 people. It gets confusing when you have multiple orders all in the same boat. read more

Gyoza was great, sushi was amazingly good, ramen was ok but the best I've had in Idaho (I'm also spoiled with having ramen throughout Japan so take that as you will). Ambience is great, was a little disappointed they removed some of the classic architecture in the building but I think overall they did it justice. Was also pleasantly surprised the menu was solidly Japanese, and not trying to be 20 cultures in one. While the menu could be a bit clearer about it being all you can eat -only-, and prices are for to-go.. This was clearly explained, by both the hostess and waitress upon seating. If you miss this you're not the brightest. The buffet style is waste gauged which may catch some people off guard as it is very rare in the area but totally fair. E.g.. all you can eat doesn't mean order 100 things to take home, you get charged at a certain point for ordering more than you eat, read the menu. Look forward to visiting again! read more

For as many people they have on the floor it takes forever to order food, get food or order additional rounds of Sushi. I did however recieve someone else's food though. We were seated upstairs and immediately had to move tables twice to find table that didn't wobble. The building had a hole in the ceiling above our table where the wood rotted out. There was also a security camera above our table the spotlight kept turning on directly in my line of sight. I was told it was the manager watching everyone. I ordered one of there margaritas of the specialty menu. I highly discourage you from making this mistake. It looked like dirty pickle juice, and tasted like dirty dishwater over ice. Dirty dishwater that cost $15 by the way. My wife ordered the hibachi steak for $20. She got 10 small bites of steak. We also ordered chicken fried rice. Again extremely small portions for the price and way too heavy on the soy sauce. They spread it out on the plate to make it look like there is more then there is. All and all an absolutely catastrophe nightmare. I hope this place goes out of business soon and a decent good restaurant takes its place. read more

They offer a great variety of sushi, ramen, and hibachi. The food is good and the all you can eat offer is a good price at 30.99, however theres a few flaws. The service was slow, they definitely need more staffing. I went before the dinner rush at around 4:30pm and it took around 40 minutes to get my first round of sushi. With the AYCE you have a two hour time limit. The fees for leftover sushi is confusing to understand. The seating is interesting, the only way i can describe it is like those Japanese sleeping pods but honey combed shaped. At the very top of the seating area you have to walk up two sets of stairs and walk right next to someone else's table, I wouldn't want to be eating and having someones shoes right by my face. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting, it smelt strongly of urine, the floors were sticky, the soap dispenser was not attached to the wall, the paper towel dispenser was not working, and the mirror was dirty. They have security cameras that constantly have bright flood lights go off it ruins the atmosphere of the restaurant. The chefs need to practice safely handling food. No hairnets no hats, I found a hair in my food which completely ruined my appetite. I didn't see them wipe off the sushi counter or their knives which can cause bacteria to harbor. They use a small toaster oven to cook fish and other items. I saw maybe one glove change the whole 2 hours I was there. When checking out my server didn't have a card reader so I had to go up to the front to pay and there was a huge line of people I could barely pay and walk out, the hostess up front had AirPods in and barely had a conversation with me. If you are in the downtown Caldwell area and want good sushi and even better service I would recommend Momiji Sushi and Steak Bistro, it is about a block away from Nara. read more

Nara Ramen Caldwell, PLEASE read this - you're on the verge of greatness. :) Pros: The sushi is excellent. Great selection of rolls. Both times that I have been here, I've seen fish being delivered. Atmosphere is fun. Shrimp chow mein was DELICIOUS. All you can eat option is fantastic to try lots of new things. Cons: The service - period. You can tell they're having some growing pains. The host seated us and just kind of threw our menus on the table, knocking the silverware onto the floor and he walked off. It took TWO hours for 2 rounds of sushi for a group of only 3. Getting our waiters attention was almost impossible. No refills of our water for the full 2 hours. There is a rolling cart for dirty dishes right in the middle of the restaurant by the bar, which wasn't appetizing. At one point it got so full that it tipped over and spilled everywhere. The table next to us ordered some jalapeno poppers at the end of their meal. After waiting for 45 minutes, they gave up, paid their bill and left without getting their food. About 15 minutes later a waitress came to deliver the jalapeno poppers but there was already a new group sat at the table. This could seriously be a FANTASTIC place. Great concept, great atmosphere and great sushi. PLEASE work out the service issues because you guys could be amazing and I don't want to lose a potential gem like this in downtown Caldwell. :) read more
