The Shreveport aquarium is a gem of the Ark-La-Tex. I have been to aquariums in New Orleans, World…read moreof Wonders in Springfield Missouri, the aquarium in Dallas, Tennessee, and Georgia. This may sound a bit strange but of all those aquariums I enjoy the Shreveport aquarium the most. It's just a enjoyable place to chill out and recharge. When we visit massive, hundred million dollar aquariums, we are often herded through the exhibits with hundreds of people. It is hard to truly enjoy an aquarium in that type of environment. Plus, how many fish do you really want to see? At the Shreveport aquarium my wife and I will often sit in the first opening gallery for 10 or 15 minutes. Soft instrumental music is playing and the fish are gingerly pecking at a coral reef or playing with one another. If a loud child and family comes in all you have to do is wait about 90 seconds and they will pass through. Enjoy their excitement and sense of wonder. We can also spend 10 minutes at the Shark Tank and another 10 or 15 minutes with the stingrays. Most of the other exhibits we view a little more quickly. Sometimes a staff member is eager to tell you about a new addition or some type of exciting aquatic behavior. This is a small aquarium, but what it has, it does very well. If you go, take the time to pause and chill out an among the hundreds of finny creatures. This is a different type of aquarium experience. Check the website for feeding times. My wife and I each have an annual pass which cost $50 a year each. It is well worth it.

I think, we took our time and still did everything in like 30 mins. It's such a shame since the surrounded area was BEAUTIFUL! I thought the gemstone area was cool. Not sure if I would consider it part of the aquarium. This is very comparable to and equally as disappointing as the sea life aquarium in downtown San Antonio. Save your money and time. If you're anywhere near Corpus Christi go to the Texas State Aquarium. That is what a true aquarium should be, and it's by far the most fun and worth every dime! This is a place for toddlers in our opinion. The highlight was hand feeding rays. That's it, didn't ruin our trip thanks to the rest of the cool places around! Don't waste your time or money here.

Maybe 8 years or so ago, it was the worse place I've ever seen in terms of how they took care of their reptiles, but it has become much better on that front. But in terms of customer service, it's so bad. All three employees I saw today seemed inconvenienced by me even being there, let alone asking for help for something. I had asked to hold one of the rats, and I'm aware they are there as feeder rats for reptiles, but I was looking to get two as pets as I've had them in the past, but the way the lady handled them disgusted me. She had pulled one by its tail to get it closer to her to pick it up, which can cause literal spinal injuries. Maybe she thought I just wanted it as a feeder, but either way they're treated horribly, let alone the conditions of where they're kept in. And the rabbits as well, how they're kept all together in the tiniest enclosure is insane. You'd expect local businesses to thrive to be better than chain pet stores, but apparently not. I do appreciate how they support the local shelters though by helping fund things like the pet food pantry on Desiard, but the negativities of the customer service and enclosures weigh quite heavy.

I just went to the Pet store that I have done buisness with for years and brought my Rottweiler…read morewith me to get him a new collar. Upon entering, a woman tells me..."your dog can't come in here if that's a rottweiler." I questioned why. The owner comes to tell me that "adult" rottweilers are not allowed. I immediately said "he isn't an adult, he is 5 mths. old." He said, "well he looks pretty big to me." And I said, "well 5 mths isn't considered an adult." He then proceeded to tell me that his insurance would not pay if my dog bit someone. Now if you have a pet store, why would you not have the appropriate insurance to cover ALL pets? I was so angry and so was my husband, that my husband said, "well you just lost all of our business here." And we walked out. I as a valued customer felt completely disrespected and insulted. I know he has a business to think about but what about other dogs that potentially bite. Why not have a sign that says "Rottweilers, Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, Chows, etc. must be muzzled". Or better yet, "ALL dogs must be muzzled upon entrance." Why discriminate and pick on a certain breed?? What the heck! Let's be fair! This was the first incident where I had to deal with discrimination, insurance or no insurance, because of my rottie. I am so sick of rotts getting a bad rap. Any dog can/may bite anyone. So why is it that Rottweilers are discriminated against? Any dog can/may be made mean...it's all upon raising them. There is much misconception about certain breeds of dogs. I do know this and so does the owner.....we will NEVER be back there to do business again. You dis my dog...you dis me!!!!
