It monitors where I am (I travel a lot) and it lets me know with a five minute warning that the International Space Station is passing overhead. If it's a clear night, I'll step outside and look. This evening, I was in Charlotte and at 8:52 PM, the bright light that wasn't an airplane and wasn't a star appeared over the roof of one of my neighbors. Over the next four minutes, the dot silently swept across the sky and disappeared. Seven humans, 257 miles up in space, moving at 17153 miles per hour. Thanks, NASA. Keep on keeping on. Enjoyed the visit but be warned the gift shop is not ethical. I bought several things and I didn't get home with them. I saw the cashier ask for another hat from another worker he scanned it then put it back. I thought he was scanning it because the one I was hoping to purchase didn't have a tag to scan. Hung it back up on the wall was not put in my bag. I purchased a hat that was not given to me. If you want to inspire your children about STEM, our space history and human kind's future, then this is a must-do for the entire family! NASA is still a government-run and funded facility that has to abide by stacks of policies and regulations. It is by far one the coolest government facilities I've ever visited! Pack a lunch and check the oil if you're driving from The Woodlands area to NASA because it will take you close to an hour to get there. We were lucky and got a huge discount thanks to a McDonalds coupon we had. I'm sure you could get some discounted tickets at the military base IT office. A wonderful place to come with the family to learn about space programs especially if you're space fanatics like we are. We enjoyed seeing the wall of mission photos and the display of astronaut suits. We've been privileged to know some of the astronauts and honored to have met some especially Gene Cernan-he's my favorite. I think my husband enjoyed the Space Center more than the boys. Myself and three of my family/in-laws visited the facility although we only had about 90 minutes which really wasn't worth it considering the near $30 cost of a ticket, although they do offer military discount for around $25. It's not cheap in my opinion but pretty cool to experience. They have the space shuttle available for touring and the jet it flew on. There are movies throughout that I wished we had more time to see, and a couple of guided tours that were one hour each, but with our time constraint it wasn't feasible. In our time, we toured the space shuttle, watched part of a movie about the trip to the moon, and walked around. The movie about the trip to the moon provided great insight to how difficult and dangerous a task it truly was during that time. read more

Don't get out of the tram line for timed tickets unless you're sure they have them. We got out of line after two associates told us to go (it is "early enough in the day there will be plenty") and there aren't anymore. There is no communication between these associates and they don't care. Now we are back in the same line for another hour for the tram ride. Very disorganized. Very disappointed. When explaining this to the person who stated we should get out of line he said "too bad". We are now in line watching them say this to more people. Awful. My boyfriend and I got the Houston Passes, giving us an passes to go to the museums, including NASA. Sadly, out of all of the museums have gone to, NASA was our least favorite. When I first walked into NASA, it was filled with kids running around, little rides that people got on, very few exhibitions, and a few screenings of documentaries. The tram tour was the only thing that was slightly entertaining for me. On a brighter note, this place had pretty good food. It was definitely overpriced, as predicted. My advice to you is to stay away from the loaded waffle fries. Loaded fries just means fries with a sprinkle of whatever toppings you wanted. The photos I took looked like it was loaded, it honestly was not. It barely had anything on it. If you want something good, try going to the burger/hot dog joint/stand. Overall, this place was a slight disappointment. This place is meant for kids. If you want something that is meant for adults, go to the Fine Arts Museum or the Natural Science Museum. read more

Its a must place to visit if you are not from Houston. Its a must see place if you are. Its a great place to take out of town guests. I mean, guys, this place is part of history, present and future. It inspires and leaves you in awe of pure human ingenuity and the human spirit. Great for kids young and old alike! Gift shop people and store is amazing. I accidently bought too small shirts came back in and they let me exchange them. How sweet is that!? You can even buy space icecream and other foods like grapes. This is American History in aerospace engineering. To see all the sites of the Shuttle, Jets, Rockets and get tickets to a NASA venue, this review is for all of NASA as I work with the research group still operational at NASA operations. My company supports all NASA locations here in the South including Huntsville, KSC, Stennis, New Orleans , so when working you have to stop in the stores and remember our space program. In the late 60s as a kid, I was a NASA nut, posters, models we put together with real model glue, I knew all the all the astronauts. Going to each one of the sites expect a bit of history that really is something special. Visit as many as you can. There really is some things to see that you've never seen before. read more

Touring NASA gave me such a feeling of 'I LOVE THIS COUNTRY'. We arrived at 10. We immediately boarded the shuttle witih NO wait. There are two, they go to different parts of the campus, so take your pick. You could even get on the other one as soon as you return. I would advise getting to NASA early and getting on the shuttle first thing (you'll be tempted not to, though) so you can take your tour early in the day, before it gets too hot, as the shuttle is open-air. Hang on to your hat, it can get gusty on that shuttle and make sure to wear your sunglasses. We went to Mission Control and Rocket Park on the shuttle. We could have spent all day here, it was so interesting. I grew up in the 60s and we would watch the launches and splash downs live on our black and white TV in school - it was a huge deal then. There can be a LOT of children on field trips, so just be aware of that. Fortunately you can bargain on them being there early and having to leave the museum in time for school to let out. There is a little play area for children, school field trips were having a hey day. This museum is for kids of ALL ages, I disagree with other reviewers who say this is tailored for children and there being 'little rides' to get on. There IS a very small area specifically for children, so stay away from that if that's not your bag. OH my gosh, don't be dumb and eat here, expecting fine dining. Eat breakfast before you arrive (see my review for Bon Appetit!) and then when you are thirsty, get a drink or a smoothie, pack a granola bar or something. But don't come to NASA and complain about the food and base your review on food. Also I don't know why YELP has this classified as an amusement park. NASA is a historical museum that happens to have a small play area for kids. Of course, being a kid at heart helps at any museum. My husband and I toured almost every square inch of the museum, we definitely could have stayed longer but we were 'museumed out'. I can't wait to go back. read more

I am continually amazed and in awe at every piece of history and story this place offers -every time. If you've never been, please do so. Everything is too commercial, $6 for parking, $20 dollars for ticket, $30 for photo, $4 $6 options etc. and nothin wirth the money. it maybe suitable for kids under 10, really not recommend for adults. Today, We were left at the corridor of a building for over an hour in a tram tour because of the rain. So disappointed. If u visit Houston go to Rice university, that is much interesting than here. Really not much to see. If u come in summer, be prepared for mosuitos, my 18 months kid got 6 bytes bites today even with trousers. I would recommend no one to this place. NASA was such an awesome experience for my family and I. The tickets here are quite expensive and the lines to purchase them are insane so I recommend buying them before hand online. Get the express pass so you can go on the white, red, and blue tours without the hassle of the long lines! The tours are special and memorable for me; all of the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable! There is a food court here. Get here early to avoid long waits on long lines! I recommend participating in the photoshoots they offer; they're super fun and my family definitely enjoyed it, as did I. The gift shops have a variety of souvenirs and super cute tees and sweaters; they're expensive, though. If you'd like a cheap souvenir, all you need are two quarters and a penny for the coin machine to transform your coins into a copper coin that says 'NASA'. Their NASA space center sweater is $50, but of good quality, though. Your bags will be checked by security. read more

This place is literal magic. I think your enthusiasm for science and space exploration will greatly affect or even determine your level of enjoyment here. They have every type of food and drink you could need. There are fans and air conditioning throughout all exhibits and even the tram areas. You can even have lunch with an astronaut and touch a piece of the Moon and of Mars! I signed up my family for a membership even though we live in a different city because it's worth it. I don't have any space buffs in my house, but we still went to visit. And, we're glad we did! We had an amazing experience on both tram rides. The astronaut training facility, mission control, and rocket park were by far the best. Plus, we tried the astronaut ice cream from the gift shop. Pretty good! Do your research. This place is full of lies. They hardly have any science back up. Everything is just their phony history. With a budget of 19billion dóllars a year and they can't even give us real images of space. Just CGI. Tickets are also overpriced for a limited experience. When you go to NASA expect more of a history lesson about the "moon landing" and plans to go explore mars with very limited scientific education. read more

This was good but the place seemed a little stale. The tour if training center was bland. However the tour of the plane and shuttle was pretty good. A decent cafeteria to eat while there. Parking is plenty. If you go early it is better. A lot of group events so displays get quickly override n if you are not careful. read more

One of our favorite places in Houston on our recent trip! Tip: buy a city pass if you will be here for a few days as the space center is included and you will save quite a bit on admission. Loved learning about the space industry, astronauts and the science behind everything. One star off for having two tram tours through the facilities that took up a lot of our time. This was not explained very well on their website or even the day of when we were in line. One tour takes you to the astronaut training facility, the other to the mission control building. Both end up at the rocket park. Not sure why they just didn't combine everything on one tour as each one was 90 mins long with some repetitive stuff. I would recommend reserving a spot online beforehand to skip the long lines, it was pretty easy to do even the day of but you may want to reserve your time earlier if going during peak season. read more

We went to the space center for a weekend, It actually rocked. A bit over - commercialized for my taste, but hey, everyone needs to make a living :D A lot of entertainment, activities, objects for a display - pretty cool place. I have always been into space and traveling to well fantasizing about things. Now I know what and how is done on a space station, and what they want to accomplish. My friend was absolutely exited to see the real and actual command center, and rockets, space ships - the trip was included in the entry tickets. pretty cool, I would recommend anybody to see and experience that. Fun. One can spend the entire day here. I read through almost everything and went on all three tram tours available that day and still did not have enough time to go inside the giant shuttles parked outside! Haha.. I tried some of the robo served ice cream and sandwiches in food court were great. Exhibits get switched out. Got to explore myth busters exhibit which was so much fun than the one before it! When you think of NASA you think... AWESOME and you build up so much expectation that... when you get to this "museum/amusement park" you wonder if it was just part of your imagination. The museum is tailored mainly for younger children (for whom there are PLENTY of activities and interesting know - how shows)... though, i cannot quite understand why everything MUST be "disney-world molded". True that science is far more approachable if taught with a pinch of funny bone... however, not everything MUST be made into a Hollywood movie script. If you only have a half day to spend on location, choose to do the guided tours first (approx 1 hour each with at least 40 mins wait to board) and then see if there is time to spare for everything else... otherwise, you will come out of the place feeling a bit empty. .. A MUST?? The gift shop... it has quite a few funny nerdy items worth spending a few bucks for. read more

My experience was great , I've been multiple times and they seem to change up the setting in the main room a lot and it seems to be different every time I go. You can learn so much from just reading and watching all the videos . I took both of the trams and it was extremely informational and super interesting to see places actually used . This is ideal for someone who is genuinely interested in science and space . read more

I was surprised at how overly kid-friendly this was. I was hoping to experience some more adult-based educational things instead of ball pits and video games. The tour was nice, I think I'll shell out the extra money next time for the Level 9 tour where kids aren't allowed. I REALLY wanted to love this place. Took four grandchildren with me and was disappointed with the tram tour. Kids were bored and the most enjoyable part was the tram ride. Food was overpriced and long waits for the simulation rides. Most disappointing was trying to get the attention of the workers to ask a question. They were so busy amusing each other and talking that I felt it was an intrusion to interrupt them. When I finally got someone's attention, they gave me an abrupt, unfriendly answer and then continued their conversation with each other. Not a very good museum. The main attraction, the shuttle and 747 are extremely lame. You barely get to explore anything. The rest of the museum is decent I suppose. A lot of it is dedicated to interactive exhibits but these get incredibly crowded. At that point they are kinda pointless. I was excited to leave. read more
