This is long overdue - we recently moved To the area and had no idea what to do with our window treatment situation. Liza came out to our house to show us all our options and measure all the windows we needed. She was also very patient with all our questions and gave us lots of options as we were figuring out a price range that could work for us. I am still in awe of how she even measured some of the unique windows we had. We have a large half moon window and also a window that's on a high vaulted ceiling that required a motorized system. The quality of Hunter Douglas pull down blinds is embarrassingly poor. Six of these and four of them have snapped a string and had to be repaired for $100 each. And when one of the second set of repaired shaded came back, the cheap plastic handle was broken off. The workmanship is not there and the repairs are costly and time consuming. Find a different model. read more

They were both friendly, knowledgeable, and did an outstanding installation job and patiently answered all our questions. We've gotten blinds from Liza twice, and we've been happy with her work both times. She is very accurate with her measurements. While in SF, we had a loft that had very high ceilings, and she measured each of the windows accurately. There was also a weird tall narrow window she was able to accurately measure. In our new place, she has also continued to be spot on as the honeycomb blinds have fit perfectly as well. She's great at matching color and thinking through the specifics of the kind of treatment you would want. She is also pretty responsive on email. Updating my previous review from 17NOV21 I was contacted via phone by Tom to remedy the situation. Tom was excellent to speak with and apologetic in regards to all the missteps that previously occurred. He made good on his word and went above and beyond to correct the issue. In less than two weeks we had a new dual charger shipped directly to our house. In addition, he was able to obtain two additional batteries for us. Thank you so very much Tom, for making it right! If I could give negative stars, I would. The service is terrible. The first installation didn't come with all the parts and the blind in the living room cannot be installed due to a missing bracket. You can buy it from Amazon for $10. I tried to call and email for couple times in the next two weeks. They kept pushing me back and forth for different location. Finally I got to schedule but the installation didn't show up. I have no way to but to place a chargeback. The owner Tom called me to withdraw the dispute. I agreed that after all the installation is done I would withdraw and he would refund $500. It took another 2 weeks and the installation guy eventually showed up and finished the work. However, the PowerView remote control system didn't work well. My wife phone couldn't connect to it after many tries. After the installation, I immediately withdrew the dispute. I asked Tom for the $500 refund and to return the PowerView. Tom said the price would deduct from the original $500 since I didn't withdraw before the job is done! I paid more than 10k and I never expected such horrible service. In short, the people in the store are NOT reliable or creditable . Go somewhere else! read more

This is a great place if you're all grown up and ready to plunk down some money and invest in beautiful custom blinds for your windows. Jeffrey helped us out, and was fabulous (super nice, took time to show us many options, explained everything). Unfortunately, we don't have the budget for this kind of investment yet. A friend recommended this place to us. I'm not sure what we'll do to cover our big windows and insulate from the summer heat - I don't want to go to Home Depot (and get no help), that's for sure! read more

I've had my blinds for a year now. I've gotten many compliments on them and I'm very happy with them. I went to the store and met Dave for the initial consultation. He later came by house and measured everything and showed me the options. There are many more options than I thought. We have the honeycomb type of blinds Some are block out shades, some let in light, some open from the top down and some open in the traditional way. I'm very pleased with the service and the quality of the product. Dave even saved me a bunch by making sure I signed up for all the rebates. If you need blinds give them a call. read more

I have had many things upgraded including remodeling my kitchen en, new pipes, floors, roof, and outdoor landscaping to my 74 year old home. I can honestly say that National Blinds in San Mateo was by far the most rewarding thanks to David. David is a skilled shutter installer and knows his field. He is personable, quick and exact in measuring my windows. The shutters came and were installed in a timely manner. I am definitely hiring him to do the rest of my windows. I came in here to try to get some help on window treatments. I needed them for a house we just bought. The guy helping had basically no interest in helping me or making an appointment. He didn't want to tell me what hours I could reach him, when he would be available or honestly really help me at all. I kept trying to get help and an in home appointment and I kept getting the run around (can't give sure hours when they're there and open, wouldn't give me an appointment, treated me condescendingly). When I asked he told me to call him after I measured my windows myself. What kind of customer service is that? It was extremely frustrating not being offered any help as a serious customer who wanted a consultation. This wasn't even a small job I wanted wooden shutters for my entire house. Yet even then I got no respect or consideration. I took my business elsewhere and got shutters from costco instead. They treated me with respect and professionalism and didn't expect me to measure my own windows. If anyone asked me I'd suggest elsewhere if you want people who will treat you professionally and have good customer service. read more

I've had a mixed experience. Chris, mentioned in other reviews, was an amazing installer and guide through the whole process. He helped make color selections and measured everything perfectly. The cut was great. We got top-down, bottom-up because we live in a townhome community. The colors turned out great! Alas, some of the top-down chords weren't aligned, resulting in a skew that couldn't be corrected with the key they provide. Chris was prompt about getting those defective blinds replaced or repaired. We had to live with paper blinds, which they provided. After 9 months, there have been no further issues. The top-down feature is great because you can get light without giving up total privacy. read more

We purchased our HD Vignette Modern Roman shades from another vendor years ago. Recently the control cord snapped. HD sent us a replacement, but we couldn't remove the endcap to access the necessary part. HD referred us to a local repair shop, which charges $200 for an onsite repair or $100 for an in-store repair - and their in-store wait was 2-3 weeks. We were determined to remove the end cap, but it wouldn't budge, and we were concerned about snapping the plastic. Another local vendor referred us to National Blinds. I phoned, and was told they'd be happy to help remove the endcap. We brought the shades, and Liza greeted us warmly and got right to work. She spent about 10 minutes gently working the endcap until it came off, and then she graciously installed our new cord. All complimentary, and all with a smile, even though we didn't purchase our shades at National Blinds. This type of customer service is rare and so much appreciated. Liza is an excellent ambassador for not only National Blinds but also HD. Next time we're in the market for new window coverings, we want to work with Liza. read more

I had a recurring problem with a Hunter Douglas blind where the fused cord loop kept breaking. Chris from National Blinds came out and immediately diagnosed the issue and showed me the workaround. We were on the verge of placing a pretty large order (3 rooms / 17 windows) with another place, and were just making some last minute phone calls to get other quotes, just to make sure we were getting a good price. I was shocked when I called National Blinds -- their prices were 40% less than my other quote, AND the product was one level up. We went to the San Mateo store to talk to David, and to try the blinds before ordering. Davide was very professional, knows his stuff and all the ins and outs of each type of blind, and he's also the installer. He came over, measured everything, gave us advice (about door handles that could impede blind movement and about motorized blinds, which we really wanted), and has now installed everything. All great. We were not worried about the quality as we'd had Hunter Douglas in our other house for a decade so we were looking for price and service -- five stars for both, National Blinds! read more

This is a great place to buy window treatments. I went to several places before deciding on National Blinds for my new shutters and shades. They have a very lovely show room and I thought that might mean they'd be the most expensive. However, they were competitively priced. Maybe even the best price. Definitely the most professionally given explanation. Obviously a very experienced and skilled group of people. David was very clear about all of my options for each of the window coverings I purchased. He gave me great advice about choosing shutters as well. The installer, I believe it was Jeff, was super nice as well. The products made the house look so much better. My holiday guests were so amazed at the difference. We brought in a honeycomb blind to have the cord replaced. Was told it would be $65 and the blinds would have to be sent to their shop in San Francisco. I suspect most folks think repairs cost more than they should but that is life. About 10 days later a call from the shop said it needed a new clutch and that would cost another $65. I asked if it was covered by warranty and the chap said he would look into it and get back to me. A later call said indeed it was. When I picked up the blind in San Mateo they charged the additional $65. It is not a major issue but it makes one wonder how 'connected' the people in this company are. read more
