National Centre For Padre Pio - Churches Near Me - Barto, Pennsylvania

My family is very devoted to Padre Pio and we have been coming here for, at least, the past 15 years. It's a very spiritual place and I always feel very calm when visiting. The grounds are always well taken care of. The lawns are well manicured and the centre is very clean. The centre was built and run by a family who experienced a miracle by Padre Pio. They are often on the grounds and are very friendly and loving. Every time I see them they hug and greet me like they've known me forever. You can hear more about their story by watching the video that is shown in the museum. At the centre there is a church (unfortunately they no longer conduct masses) that holds rosary prayers, a smaller chapel, a museum and gift shop. The museum is free and contains items of Padre Pio's from Italy. The side of the church is replicated to look like the church at San Giovanni Rotunda in Italy. There is a glove of Padre Pio's that the volunteers take out when there are groups. If you would like to see the glove and it is not out just ask! The centre is very welcoming for small and large groups. There are about 20 wooden picnic tables on the grounds. My family and I often spend some time at the church first, go to the gift shop, sometimes go to the museum (I've seen it so many times at this point..) and then we spend some time on the picnic tables and eat! If you are a devotee of Padre Pio you must visit. As my mother says, "it's healing for the soul". read more

Highly recommend.Beautiful Catholic center for St Pio on well manicured large grounds . Two lovely major buildings in the grounds. First is gift shop, cafe and museum. The well laid out one floor informative museum on Saint Padre Pio has multiple holy relics of the Saint , relics of St. John Paul, a replica of St Pio 's monastery bed, childhood home , and chapel area where he received the 5 stigmata of Christ early in this priesthood . In the bottom of the museum they have a large room filled with first order relics of over 100 saints. Each relic is displayed with a brief history of each saint.Extensive gift shop with many things St Pio and cafe with nice freshly baked pastries. While we were there they showed a very brief film on the Callandra family who founded this center after the miracle healing of their daughter by St Pio . It would be nice for the center to include showing some of the many movies on the life of Padre Pio. Second building has a large church and smaller chapel with replica of St Pio's confessional. Mass is said here the first Saturday of every month. I have had the great opportunity of visiting San Giovanni Rotundo the monastery and church where St Pio lived and he is buried . This center is a lovely grace filled option for those who can't get to Italy to know more about St Pio and feel his holy presence. I hope that with donations they will be able to develop the grounds to include out door stations of the cross and more statues on the grounds for peaceful meditation. The center is free to visit. I would say in a few hours you can visit the two buildings so you easily do this as a day trip. read more

My GPS quit on way up. I would also print directions off the web. And both GPS and Google maps were way off on time. Not a 3 hour trip but 4.5, with taking 2 very short pit stops for a solo traveler. Plan for more time and possible GPS issues or lack of cell coverage. But the shrine is peaceful. Twice a year they have a relics display with relics from over 100 saints. I don't know if they only do this during relics display but you get to be touched with Padre Pio's mitten encased in glass as a blessing. If you love Padre Pio, worth a drive! read more

Came here last Saturday. The outside view is beautiful and it's very serene. This shrine is open to anyone, but I'm guessing that mainly Catholics would be interested in this review. Padre Pio is a saint for healing the sick. My dad had pancreatic cancer about 9 or 10 years ago but is still alive today. For what this is, I guess, there isn't much they could improve on. Maybe more things at the gift shop. read more

I was in need for a wedding gift for a family friend's child's wedding and we needed some ideas. The family has a devotion to Beloved Padre Pio as well. When we called the Centre and spoke with them and then we explained our situation they responded very positively and were accommodating. They went out of their way to help with suggestions. And it didnt take too long and we were able to find a very fitting and beautiful gift. The staff were very courteous, kind, and knowledgeable And the gorgeous wall framed picture of St.Pio was touched to his relic which was an added gift to the family. We actually bought two of two different types. The second one we used as a sympathy gift for another friend who had a recent loss. In fact we may order an additional one for another sympathy gift. Their items are different. We looked locally and online and couldnt find the quality we found from the Centre's office. Others were nice, but limited. An amazing place. Very holy and tranquil. They have a great Museum that's free and has Padre Pio relics. They also have his bedroom and many pictures and clothes. The chapels are great. The tour guides are excellent. Shout out to Frank. Just go and enjoy this holy place. read more

A beautiful sanctuary right near my home in Montgomery County PA. The architecture is striking and with the surrounding countryside makes you feel like you are in Italy! The museum well documents the life of Padre Pio with a timeline and rooms set up with how he would have lived. Viewing the 'glove' he wore and seeing all the prayers and intentions left by visitors is so beautiful. If you are in this part of PA, please visit. Good for the whole family. And the gift shop is fun, too. read more

When my sister was diagnosed with cancer, she felt so at peace visiting Padre Pio's Shrine We made several trips monthly. She purchased just about every book and several videos. She also bought several key chains and rosaries for gifts. She had so much faith in Padre Pio. We attended mass in the church before it started to be said in the chapel. We love Padre Pio... Although she didn't make it--- on her tombstone has quoted one of Padre Pio's sayings. Plan on continuing to visit the shrine and spread the word if Padre Pio. Now St Pio. read more
