Diego and his team were timely, reliable, efficient, cost-competitive, friendly and personified great service. They have my highest recommendation. The good service started when I contacted them just a few days before our trip. At first, Diego said they did not have any sedans available. But a cancellation opened up a rental later that same day, he promptly emailed me to let me know. Once we were in Merida, he brought the car to our hotel (the Hyatt), patiently and efficiently explained the details of the rental agreement and answered all of our questions without any rush. His English is not absolutely fluent, but certainly more than good enough for our purposes. The vehicle performed fine. Upon the completion of the trip, back at the Hyatt, he returned to the hotel to pick it up. The only minor glitch we had was that the GPS system for the car didn't always work great, with a couple of problems along the way. (We thus used our Googlemaps GPS on our phones more often; it was better, though not perfect.) When I mentioned this to Diego, he took the charge off of our bill. I wasn't asking for this, but appreciated it nonetheless. Two other minor matters were that the website does not seem to have an English option, though Google Translate works pretty well on it, and that it wasn't immediately clear whether a rental request using the online form was actually sent out to Unirent (though they replied promptly, either that day or the next, obviating that difficulty.) But really, these are trifling items. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Unirent again, and wholeheartedly recommend the company.

We have been fighting with Hertz for weeks and they refuse to return our deposit saying they already returned it, when they clearly have not. Intially they said there was an error, then that it was on its way, then that it had already been returned, and now that they released it on the end of the rental agreement. This place is a giant scam! Beware!

I showed up at the counter with a reservation already made and the pressure started immediately: if I didn't buy extra insurance for tires, rims, and windows, I would be personally liable for almost any damage. They made it sound like leaving without it was insane. That "extra coverage" nearly doubled the price I had already seen online. I refused. I cancelled on the spot and went to another company. This isn't a misunderstanding. It's bait-and-switch: they lure you in with a cheap "fully covered" rate, then change the rules at the desk to charge you twice as much. Other companies like Mex Rent a Car and Europcar show the real total up front. No last-minute shakedown. No fake "0% deductible" that vanishes the second you arrive. I felt scammed and cornered. I'm glad I didn't rent from them. Don't give them your money. Avoid America Car Rental at all costs.

Meanwhile, a credit card terminal was sitting right next to the paperwork. When I asked why they did that, the guy at the counter advised my credit card didn't have raised digits so he couldn't use the old school sliding machine with the carbon copy. That begged the question of why those are still even being used in 2019, much less by a company like Enterprise. Fortunately, it's been almost a month since I returned the car and I have yet to see any unauthorized charges on my credit card.

I ended up getting a Kia SUV at the rate of $100 per day The vehicle was great and the service was wonderful at the budget rental center. They were all very nice people. I ended up spending a lot more money than what I intended to and ended up wishing I had rented from somewhere else. I don't appreciate bait and switch!!
