In September 2025, I suffered a stroke, brain bleed, paralysis and so on. Being only 55 years old, my mother and father stepped in to handle my care and decisions. I was unconscious for nearly two weeks, when I woke up I could not move my limbs or talk. Over the past 5 months, my journey took me to a few wonderful care facilities, ALL have played an invaluable role in helping me regain nearly all of my faculties and physicality. This post will hopefully inspire folks going on a similar journey. My true motivation for this post. Is to share my story of hope and heap praise on mostly unnamed faces that do God's work. Huntingdon Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab...is AMAZING. I simply cannot share how hard these folks work TO MAKE MY LIFE easier. I wish I could share all of their names, but it wouldn't be fair to make such a list in case I left even one person off of it by accident The food is terrific, the camaraderie is even better. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF AND RESIDENTS for the past several months of friendship. As my stay here is not yet over, I may post again with updates to my story. PS - Over the past 5 months I have learned to walk, talk, eat, cut food, blow my nose, roll in a wheel chair, read, write, and yes......TYPE. Our recent experience has not met those expectations. Rehab is short staffed. Patients often wait 20 to 30 minutes for response to a nurse call for help. My spouse needed additional medicine for a new condition, yet had to wait almost 48 hours because we were told it had not been delivered. Due to delay in identifying a new Fever, my spouse needed to be admitted to the hospital again for a newly acquired infection. Upon return to rehab, he did not receive the medication prescribed by hospital staff. Upon visiting, I found my spouse lying on the floor, having fallen from the wheelchair. No staff was in sight & despite calls for help, no one came until I found staff in another unit to come & help. Very very disappointed in the care.

They could not give her medicine--I had to do it. They did not watch her and she had a fall. They told us they could handle patients with FTD, but the staff that was not up to the challenge. Artis Senior Living- Huntingdon Valley is a "god send." While my wife is difficult, the staff is up to the challenge. Starting with respecting all patients, they have managed to handle her meds, her incontinence and here wandering. They take responsibility for caring for her which gives our family the confidence that we can go about our business without constant interruptions. The "neighborhood concept" has made my wife feel part of community. She has friends and feels apart of an extended family and so do we.
