My gf's mom recently moved into senior living in Ankeny and she needed a quality walker. Not the…read moresimple walker, but one with the seat and brakes, etc. We were out and about on our normal weekend routine and she mentioned it to me. I remembered there was a Hammer Medical supply store near where I live. We pulled in and I noticed the Hammer sign was gone. The medical supply store was still there, but it had been rebranded to NuCara Home Medical. We walked in, the place seemed empty, but a voice in the back called out greeting us. The desks where the staff sits are not directly in the front. One of them walked up to meet us and ask us what we were looking for. From there she took us through the walkers they stocked, their price points, features, warranty etc. Once my gf had selected one the process was pretty quick and painless. Except for when I had to load it up into her car... Lol The checkout process at the point of sale is thorough and they go through EVERYTHING with you, but my guess is that's normally what is needed for a transaction that requires insurance paperwork. We seemed like we might be an anomally for them...more like a straight retail sale. All in all a really good experience.

Everything went very well. Now to be honest there were two minor glitches. You know how your car…read moremay do something but when you take in to the shop it won't do it? We were showing a neighbor the chair lift and we could not get the foot rest down! Then it happened to my wife a few times and then it happened to me. Once it stopped midway when my wife. She pressed the back and then forward and it started again. I called. The crew was out of town but they called the next day. It would take them two hours to get back to town. They stopped by at about 1715 hours and of course the chait lift functioned perfectly. But this crew doesn't quit easily. They took every access cover off and checked every electrical contact. They tan it up and down the stairs, operated the foot rest up and down a couple of dozen times. Nothing. But they didn't quit. They replaced the foot rest and I think they replaced the travel switch. And emphatically stated that if anything happened to call again. Nothing has wrong has happened. The crew was great. They worked carefully. No swearing or foul language. They talked, laughed and where happy. This showed me that they were well motivated and enjoyed the job. It was evident in their workmanship. We picked Arrow because they had a show room that we rode five different models. The others wouldn't phone us back or send us information. I'm still glad we went with Arrow. You will be too.

They were to file for insurance reimbursement through MedAdvantage plan. Received PAST DUE bill on July 11, first communication I've had since Feb. I never received any notification about the ordered bra (they were to call when it came in) and never received any prior billing. The credits were not for the amount that the insurance company says they paid, resulting in an overcharge of about $8.00. That was with using the full amount, rather than the "allowed" amount, shown by the insurance. Paying the amount shown and will NEVER return to this establishment. If I could give negative stars, I would.

It did come fairly quickly after that but when I asked if they could be mailed to me (have done that in the past) I was told it would cost me $50. This year I was forced to pay for my items before insurance went through (I still have not been reimbursed for the items I received in June). No other doctor or medical facility makes me do this. I don't really expect to get reimbursed. Not sure what I will do in the future for my compression needs but probably will not order from them again if I can avoid it.

After a sleep study, I was told I could go get a c-pap or I-pap machine the same day after leaving…read moremy morning consultation. NOT A CHANCE. First of all the doctor sent me to Hammer medical supply which needs a ton of information more than what I was sent with which was my prescription for the machine and my sleep study results. they still needed more than that to even submit it to my insurance. I left Hammer thinking all was well, was told this was going on my 2015 insurance which we'd met the family deductible already and that they'd call me when it came in. I waited a week and a half hadn't heard anything, called Hammer back and found out they are still waiting on something from the sleep study doctor and it cannot go to insurance without some document. Now they tell me it will also have to go on my this year's insurance since it goes from the day that it's ordered and they couldn't order before without all of the documents. Not sure why they told me it'd go on last year's since that's when I was in the store to order it and also when the doctor ordered the machine for me. I called to talk to the sleep study doctor about who to use instead of Hammer since he told me they were NOT the cheapest but it wouldn't matter since I had met my deductible, it's a big deal now since we haven't even submitted the order, now I'm told by the exact same Chris at Hammer that it'll go on a new deductible and I will be paying fully for this device out of pocket. Also I'm now told by hammer that it's a rental not a purchase so there's a monthly fee to use the machine for 10 months at which time it's considered paid in full. I called to ask for the doctor to call me back and the receptionist was very reluctant to even do this which had me boiling. What doctor won't call a patient back? That's the first and last time I'll ever experience that. DON'T GO To HAMMER or Iowa Sleep!
