Most everything is positive. Great selection. Great prices. Clean store. Rarely do I request assistance from staff, except at the pharmacy where the service is spectacular, they are friendly, knowledgeable and fast. The scan and go app -- allowing you to essentially check out as you go is wonderfully efficient. My only criticism is with the optical department. My experience there was that the staff was slow, unhelpful and unfriendly, the glasses were overpriced and beyond the base price involved a host of upselling -- which given the quality I got, I guess I should have paid for. I had recently purchased glasses elsewhere (specifically Costco) and the quality was better, they were significantly less expensive and the staff was infinitely more engaged. read more

There is something fun about shopping at clubhouse stores, which probably is all about buying in bulk. The rotisserie chicken is definitely a bargain and they sell so much that it is always fresh and juicy (never dry). This is usually the cheapest place in the metro to get fuel, so anytime I drive through ankeny I always stop to top off my tank. read more

While i love Sams and the place is always clean and stocked. Every human interaction I have had - auto, returns, optical have been notably bad. Like text book definition of how to bad customer service. Go here for anything but avoid Optical and Auto. Wow, this place has to be the worst customer service oriented Sam's Club I've ever been too.The manager obviously cannot manage people or is non-effective. Walking into the store they now request your membership card... Which I don't carry, because I use the app. I told the lady "I don't have my card I just use the app" her response was "get your phone," it was all I could do not to go off on her. Why do I need my card when entering? Why do you have a non-friendly person (which seems to be half your staff) working in that position. Then as I am in the store a little elderly lady asks a kid where stick butter was or did they have it. I quote "it's over in the cooler area" then he walked away! Thanks CPT Obvious. I will not renew my card with Sam's Club after this year. Six years of coming to this club and it gets worse and worse. Looking forward to a Costco in this area! read more

Prices are ok. You may want to double check online before you buy for big ticket items. There's a gas station out front that's members only as well and 90%of the time has the best gas prices in Ankeny. Most times, Fleet Farm matches that and you don't need a membership to buy gas there. I visited this location the first week of their opening and it was unbelievably busy, I got a little worried because it kind of made for a poor shopping experience. Flash forward months later, daily crowds definitely is down to normal levels. While I do tend to spend a lot of money here. It is a big box store and what you see is what you get. They do run some good deals on things and Ive heard decent things about the car side doing well and price on tires is competitive. I do not have anything bad to say about this location but nothing is overly exciting about the experience here. Hence the 3 star rating... I feel it is average. read more

I have been a Sam's Club member for 13 years and my experience at this Sam's club was terrible because of a person with the name Afton on their name tag. I live out of town and drove out of my way to stop at this club to fill my tank. I realized that I did not have my card with me, so I stopped into the club's member service area and requested a replacement card. I explained to the person assisting me that I normally use the app and did not have my card on me but needed gas. The person assisting me seemed preoccupied and half attentive and proceeded to cancel my card, reporting it stolen and which even seemed to lock me out of the app, that I normally use when I shop. I went back to the member service desk and was directed to be helped by someone that appeared to be a supervisor or shift lead of some sort with the name Afton on their name tag. While I was visibly frustrated because I was pressed for time and now my account seemed to be out of order, I remained professional and courteous. I did not express my frustration with any form of degradation or name calling, foul language, or elevated tone, as I have in the past worked face to face with customers and know that it is inappropriate. Afton, was uninterested in helping to correct the account aspect of my issue and instead insisted in focusing on the app portion of my issue and then just became dismissive of me when I suggested that It was an issue with my account and not the application. As I left, I told Afton that I I get that the situation was frustrating that she was unable to help me, but if she had even once thought to express empathy that she was sorry that i was having trouble, I might not be leaving the situation so very dissatisfied I even asked for a customer service number to call. Afton's response was "It's just how you present yourself" I thanked her for informing me that her lack of empathy of the situation was my fault. I was not unprofessional ,disrespectful, irate, or rude. I guess that only leaves my appearance to warrant how I was disrespected. After I left, I did call that customer service number and I waited a very long time to speak to an agent. I explained the situation and they helped me get back into my account without uninstalling and reinstalling my app. I was told that I would have to be contacted back by a supervisor to discuss my experience. I am still waiting for that call. read more

I had the BEST experience today at Sam's in Ankeny, Iowa. I had a laptop that wouldn't do anything and I had the pleasure of meeting Andy in the electronics department and I'm SO glad I did. He called the manufacturer for me because they really didn't want to help me when I called and in less than an hour it was working awesome. He was so patient and knew what they were talking about. This does not happen often. Another associate Bondi (hope I spelled correct) was also making sure everything was going good. Hats off to these 2 associates that took the time to make sure I got my issue solved on one visit. Thank you Andy for you did the work and yet you apologized to me for taking the time to help me. This awesome location that just opened this May. Great selection of multiple products. The store is very clean and well laid out with a large parking lot and tons of handicapped spaces available. Associates are friendly and always willing to point you in the right direction. Cafe is nice with cheap drinks and yummy food to snack on through the store or on your way home. They offer military discounts in their membership. Which their memberships are not that bad if you need bulk items. read more

Love this new Sam's Club. Everything is so clean. Good selection of items at pretty good prices. Since it is on the south side of Ankeny, right now it is very easy to get to. Very little traffic here. Also ate dinner at the cafeteria here. Great prices and good food. A slice of pizza and drink for less than $3. Hot dog and a drink for a little over $2. And the frozen yogurt and berries sundae for $1.50. Great price and tastes almost as good as a DQ sundae. read more

I love Sam's! Perfect place to stock up on the basics. If I'm throwing a party or having a family gathering, a trip to Sam's is a must. I also love the covenience of their already-prepared items back in the bakery/meats area. If I'm heading to a potluck or party and don't feel like or have time to make something to take, I like to stop in and grab one of their amazing prepared desserts. They also have great prepared items to pick up for dinner as well. They always have great seasonal specials as well. And, of course, let's not forget...FREE SAMPLES!! I love this Sams Club. I've been to a few and this ones just the right size. The layout is great! Walk in and right there is your customer service. The food is on the outside perimeter of the store. They have a huge selection of foods at really great prices. The food court is really nice and open. You can get your car worked on and watch threw the window while you eat. You can buy tables and chairs and other party/business supplies off to the right of the store. They have name brand clothes and off brand at great deals. Parking is great. A very happening spot. You've got to come here if you want to save. They have a lot of items that you can stock up on! I come here all the time to get my toilet paper dog food spices in big containers. They have lots of samples throughout the store that you can get and that really helps if you want to taste something you can usually get it fairly cheap. I love that I don't have to go to the store as much when I stock up. The parking is stupendous! I love that I can get in get my shopping done and go home happy. The employees are perfectly informed on where it is you have to go to get something. And they even have suggestions for you that makes it nice! read more

This is the worse location with very poor customer service. They had a mis-print in their ad they just sent out to all the customers. They had an item listed twice on 2 different pages - 1 said 1.75 off and the other page said $1.75 for the item. I brought it to their attention and was told they know about it and they have been instructed by corporate NOT to honor the price difference. I get mistakes and misprints but then you hang a sign about it that you will not be honoring their ad. You don't leave it as is and then argue with a loyal customer of 16 years for over 15 min in how corporate told YOU not to honor their mistake. You fix the mistake by hanging a new sign - not argue with your customers that they can pay the store price or take it off your order. When my membership is up you can bet I won't be renewing. We shopped at this Sam's Club a couple weeks after they opened. I love that the location is in Ankeny since we live here but they didn't have many of the items we regularly purchase at this Sam's Club like they do at the one in Windsor Heights. I'm not sure if it was because they just opened and will be getting more stuff in stock or if this one is just meant to be smaller. Overall it's clean, staff was friendly and helpful and still had some items but we will still shop mostly at the Windsor Heights location unless they get more at this location. read more

Brand new and clean. Go first thing in the morning and it is a ghost town. Plenty of parking available. This is your typical Sams Club with food, drinks, apparel, household items, etc.... Staff was friendly and check out was quick. They have self checkout available as well. If you want to skip the traffic during busier hours take the Corporate Woods exit and head north. The lights at the other intersection, Oralabor and Delaware, are insanely slow. read more

This is feedback concerning the return of soda cans. I have been returning cans for a couple of years (since this location opened): I've consistently been told I need to know how many cans I am returning (despite the fact that the associate has to separate can/bottle, and can count them while doing so). They are visibility unhappy when I didn't know how many cans I was returning. At times, I was asked to estimate the cans but I felt that was dishonest. During this last return, I was asked if I rinsed out the cans, and I stated they were as empty as could be, but I did not hot wash them before bringing them. A manager pulled me aside and wanted to discuss rinsing out cans, and I asked why this was an issue? He stated since they deal with food here, it needs to be clean. I asked: the customer service return desk deals with food? Because they DO deal with money, which happens to be one of the dirtiest things in the world. He then pivoted to the fact that the potential for spilled pop keeps the area from being clean, and there could be tobacco in the cans etc. I said there are no tobacco in my cans. The bottom line is, if you are trying to return cans here, you may end up feeling like a second rate citizen, despite attending a warehouse club where you are paying to be a member. The attitude of the service dept. associates (in general, as I have dealt with several of them on can returns) needs addressing. The manager said he would address this - but be advised. If they want to have so many stipulations on can return, they should probably get out of the can return business. read more

This is the worst location! If you are looking to get new tires on your vehicle do not bring it to here! The employees that are in the tire an battery center are very rude and do not know how to work on vehicles. I ordered tires from this location and had to wait a week for them to arrive- understandable as I have large truck tires. When I went in for my appointment I advised the employee's about the lock nuts that are on my truck and where the key was. We went shopping in the store for about an hour and when we returned I observed them tightening all of my lug nuts with the old tires still on the truck. They then proceeded to tell me that they were refusing service as all of the lug nuts were seized and that they can only use an impact to remove lug nuts from the vehicle. They advised that this was store policy and when I asked for a copy of the policy they were unable to locate anything advising on this and said that it was in a training video. When I arrived home I decided to test their theory that all of the lug nuts were seized and that the studs were going to break when trying to remove the wheels. I was able to remove all 32 lug nuts and place them back on the studs with only using the tire iron that came with the vehicle, with little effort. Do not bring your vehicle here they are lazy and don't know how to use hand tools to remove a tire!! read more
