The Ship2Pitt program allows students to ship 4 boxes of their belongings to the school for free, which is awesome...EXCEPT IF YOU LIVE IN HAWAII OR ALASKA, OR ANY OTHER US TERRITORY THAT'S NOT PART OF THE 48 CONTIGUOUS STATES!!! It is going to be expensive enough in order to get everything we need in order to get our daughter there, for example, airline ticket and now shipping cost for her belongings. I called University to ask about this policy and the reason they won't service Hawai', Alaska, or other territories is because they can't guarantee that the boxes will get there on time or get there safely. Guess what folks...UPS, FedEx, USPS can't 100% guarantee that boxes being shipped from the contiguous 48 states will get there safely and on time! University of Pittsburgh needs to service all the United States to include Hawai'i and Alsaka (last I checked they were still part of the USA) and other territories or take the Ship2Pitt program away entirely! This is discrimination based on geography!

I spent five years at Duquesne, and if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing!…read more I moved out to Pittsburgh for college all the way from California--state, not California, PA. Duquesne was such a welcoming campus, and all of the teachers and staff are very caring. There are so many great resources, both on campus and off campus within a short distance. Duquesne's campus is like a world all it's own, being nestled on the Bluff right in downtown. I graduated two years ago, and I'm still thankful for the education I received. I moved back to California, and I have to admit that I miss Pittsburgh and Duquesne a lot! (as an aside, my brother also went to a Catholic university in Chicago that cost almost $10k MORE each year, and the resources at his school weren't nearly as nice as at Duq.) Edit 12/24/14: P.S. Someone else (who studied math) mentions in a 1-star review that Duquesne doesn't have any rigorous science programs--that couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. I graduated with a science degree and believe it was a FANTASTIC program and that every other science student I came across in other programs thought the same thing. With my education I believe I could get a job at any lab in the country.

They went to Duquesne on promise of full scholarship - to avoid debt . It was a LIE . Despite their exceptional academic performance ? They incurred debt . (16) is being courted by DU and has already told their recruiters ? " Don't bother - I saw what my big brother has been through". I feel only guilt at encouraging my older children to go there . The DU "academic scholarships" are a lie ....they raise tuition yearly but not scholarships. ( No matter how exceptional the academic performance.) I have nothing but regret for encouraging my children to go there. The education? Top notch- no argument . But the financial misery they lied / conned/ scaammed my children into? REPULSIVE !

We also did not cover a good method for making a portfolio of our work. The ones we made were bare bones, and did not incorporate GitHub. I was in the computer programming division. Other program choices seemed more or less successful, though mine was probably one of the better ones. There are some awkward elements to going here. I didn't expect or need anything like this, but there are no after-school programs. You have to dress business casual every day, which is not great. Alumni services are bad. I was promised lifetime service but have had trouble getting any since graduation. I spoke with their placement people for almost a year with barely any results (only maybe 4 jobs sent to me and I applied to over 200, no joke). The school is also not regionally accredited, so credits are not accepted at most universities outside of the Pittsburgh area. I was accepted to Troy University in Alabama, but they would not accept my credits. The school was not a total waste, as it did get me entry to much better-paying jobs. Our training in how to pass job interviews and how to write resumes was pretty good. The problem is that continuing education and career services are so bad due to this college, and those were promised to me from the start.

The education was low quality and they fired hundreds of teachers for enforcing class rules and for complaining that the students were getting criminally violent with them. Their students have an attitude problem and were trained to defy authority in all areas and were told they were in charge and ran the school to keep them. This was based on fraud from the director Linda, the unemployable confused senior who flirted with the students and told them not to listen to the teachers. The students don't show up for work, come to job interviews in tshirts and tennis shoes and fight with the owners that they'll work when they feel like it and no one tells them what to do. They should have been arrested.
