As a touch of comfort, I wanted to get him something that felt like "home," and I called Dolly's Gift Shop for help. Jamie had just opened the store that morning, and she wove in time to send me many photos of things she thought might be a nice token. She was so wonderful with her time, her ideas, and she even wrapped it up and coordinated with my local family member who came by to get the gift. Above and beyond. Now they are in a much larger location which has allows the visitor to really take in all the magnificent pieces that are available for a very modest price. The store also sells Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral paints and other items (which are also used to upcycle furniture and home decor). The owner is very knowledgeable and has invested a great amount of her artistic talent in the items for sale. And if you would like to try your hand at upcycling some furniture that you have, there are periodic classes which teach you how to use the different products by Dixie Belle. I almost forgot, keep an eye on her calendar on the website because there are some very fun classes that you can meet with others and just have a great time and take home something wonderful for your home.

This small business is a stand-alone sparkly nugget on busy U.S. 1 (Dixie Freeway). Colorful, hand painted sculptures and treasures greet you even before you set foot in the store. Once inside, there are so many treasures in every nook and cranny - with a particular focus on nautical themed (especially mermaids - hence the name - "The Vintage Mermaid") furnishings and gifts. The store also smells like a spa and a new age store had a baby - it's a nice smell! They seem to specialize in up-cycling wooden furniture, turning pieces into one-of-a-kind "must have" item. The store even has a special paint section and staff provide free advice on how to do certain techniques on furniture that customers may want to attempt at home. We stumbled upon this home mercantile shop on a Saturday while exploring the area, and I'm so glad we did. They have a shabby chic/vintage vibe with some really unique pieces that have a more modern feel. They have some large furniture pieces, rugs & textiles, and curated antiques throughout the store. We got a few home accents/knick knacky things to decorate our home office and bookshelf. They also have some great faux plants/greens that are perfect if you're a plant killer like me. I was really crushing on all their kitchen tools -- brass honey dippers, cute measuring cups, cutting & charcuterie boards, stoneware, hand carved wood bowls, marble pinch pots for herbs & seasonings... the list goes on. I'm not much of a cook but this shop made me wish I was, haha. I also ended up getting a comfy dress and some earrings (they have a great gold jewelry selection), and I've already worn it twice (instant closet staple). What sets the shop apart from the typical chain is how nice the associate was. I'm not sure if she was the owner but she shared some kind words with my daughters and I was happy to purchase the items they were looking at. It's refreshing in these times to have a nice interaction while shopping because it rarely happens anymore. I'd rather pay more to a small business that offers a great customer experience any day.
