The classic burger was tasty, but upset my stomach. Not sure what caused the upset stomach, but it was still good LOL. Service was fast and in a central location. The food itself was decent for a vegetarian restaurant. I wish they were more clear that all their food was vegetarian as that did not come-out on the menu or called-out by the staff. I did enjoy the hot dog but was underwhelmed by the burger (Classica). The patty was a mushy bean paste and would have liked something that was a little closer to the taste and texture of a true burger patty. Had very good service. Everyone treated us very well.

Welcome to this little piece of paradise in southern Mexico. While Chetumal is usually ignored…read morebecause of its siblings, Cancún, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen, this city has been growing, and getting more to offer to its visitors. La Cafetería de la Chapultepec is one of these new options. It has good coffee and varied options for breakfast, from pancakes (called hot cakes in Mexico) to panini, including some meatless options. It might be out of the tourist area of Avenida Heroes or the Bay, but that's a good thing, because you know you'll be eating at a place where locals eat. And, it's only a 5 minute walk from the famous Hotel Los Cocos, or about a 10-minute walk from the Museo de la Cultura Maya. If you were wondering, my favorite combo is a cappuccino and pancakes.

As this is a little off the beaten path--away from the airport, town centre, the waterfront, and North American immigrant enclaves--there is no English menu nor does the wait staff speak English. A little basic knowledge of Mexican food and a few words of restaurant-Spanish are all you need to fill your belly with good food. It specialises as a brunch place, so you find a bit of both breakfast and lunch. The breakfast packages are amazing breakfasts; each package includes a fruit plate or juice, 2 coffee (cafe de olla, which is decadently spiced) or tea, 5 tortillas, bread of the day or toast, and a takeaway dessert. Our stomachs were on Belize time, so we were ready for lunch. My husband had the a la plancha arranchera steak, which comes with beans, veg, and rice... not a lot, though, the star is the steak. I tasted the meat and it was well seasoned and tender. Super delicious plate and my husband was stuffed when he finished. I ordered the Poc Chuc, which is a Maya dish of pork marinated in sour orange juice and served with refried beans and chili-tomato salsa. Ohmygosh! It will be hard to try any other lunch plates after that. The pork was so delicious and tender and juicy with magnificent little charred bits along the edges from the grill. Heaven wrapped in a tortilla with the salsa. We ordered a pitcher of red-fruits flavoured aqua fresca. I want more. There was a very clear flavour of fresh fresh fruit is this drink, not overly sweet. I highly recommend it. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. We are looking forward to bringing friends here for sure!!

As we strolled up to the restaurant there was obviously a cook having a beak sitting on a small stool out front. I asked her what we should order. Without hesitation she replied huaraches. Now I believe the name refers to the shape being similar to the soles sandal's but the dish that arrives stacked with fresh crispy lettuce on top of a delicious mix of steak drunks and shrimp sitting on a 2mm thick handmade blue miaz tortilla. Two cream drizzles and the open fire kitchen flavours permeated the entire dish. We also ordered a felafel and a chilli rellano. Both were very good. Excellent authentic flavours packer full of loving care. Bravo and thanks.

Everything here was bad except the copal they were burning…read more We ordered a burrito, fries, guacamole, a fish filet, ceviche with tomatoes as a sub for pineapple and mango, and extra tortillas. We also ordered two drunk smoothies with two shots in each (basically blended alcoholic drinks). Out of what we ordered, here's what we got: -Filet fish, without extra tortillas, it was bad. -one blended smoothie with not alcohol to be tasted in it, and one regular mixed drink with seemingly only a shot in it -a small molcajete with decent guacamole and hard, overly greasy chips--this was the best thing on the table -the vegano burrito was okay, but flavorless And the fries that came on the side were too undercooked to want to eat -the ceviche had 8 pieces of fish that was basically just poke/sashimi because it hadn't soaked in the acid bath that is required to make ceviche, and it also had 10 pieces of shrimp, which was just basically Raw shrimp. The majority of what was on the plate was long, raw red onions and a third of a tomatoes that was sliced and laying on top. -I didn't order anything else because I didn't trust them to make anything good after everything we ordered was bad and they forgot our order of fries. The staff was also rude, and would walk away while we were still talking, and made no eye contact with us when we ordered or exchanged words. Our Spanish wasn't great, so perhaps they were just jaded about tourists

The colourful table cloths and breeze off the bay make for a very nice setting. The wait staff is very gracious and tries as hard to speak English as we do to speak Spanish. We feel welcome. We enjoyed a frozen margarita, a mojito, and a refreshing chelada; all were delish! We shared a plate of oysters a la diablo, which were not my favourite. Other styles of the oysters are more complementary while the diablo overpowered the delicate shellfish. The filet fish was tender and delectable with a small mound of fried dried shredded Chile pepper that had a sweet aftertaste. It was served with rice, macaroni salad, and a luscious mixed salad. The seafood torta stole the day; we all took a taste and decided we'd get that next time. It came with a mixed salad and something else, maybe... we were in love with this egg pancake thick with shrimp, fish, and other seafood delectibles. Last time I was crazy about the sea-and-land kebabs and almost got them again, but decided on the alhambres instead, also the sea-and-land style. Oh My Goodness! Quickly sautéed with diced onions and sweet peppers, it was the bomb! I ate it with tortilla chips and needed nothing else. And there were leftovers that lasted less than a few minutes once I got home and my husband smelled them. This place is always high on my list when visiting Chetumal and a place I love to take friends.
