Came here after playing tennis at the Jackie Robinson courts and was super happy with my choice! I got the sorrel which was a perfect blend of tart and sweet. The Customer service there is good but the food is underwhelming. Worst vegan mac and cheese I've ever had. DO NOT ORDER IT. I had the "fish" patty which was tasty but it needed to have more stuffing. There was barely anything inside. It seems like only the trini guy there can make good coffees. The pastries always look dry. And every time I went to try the pone, it looked burnt. I had the coconut sweet bread, it was dry. Their sorrel in a bottle is great. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I mean it's just a great addition to the community and they provide healthy food alternatives!! It's my first time staying/visiting the BedStuy area and I came across this great spot while exploring. I've loved everything I tried here and it is all vegan! I found this spot by accident and I'm not sorry. I got off the bus, ready to transfer when I saw this bright and interesting place. With this boiling weather all I wanted was something cool and refreshing. It was was really difficult for me to pick something out because there were a lot of good options. Once I finally figured what I wanted I stood where I thought the line began just for some one to come in and get in front of me. Besides that the employees were cool. This place is really busy though but I definitely understand why. I ordered the Matcha' Cado with apple juice as my choice of liquid and omggggg it was amazing! Now that I'm typing this I'm remembering all the details of how great it actually was. It wasn't until I left that I realized they serve vegan food. If you're hungry and on a budget I don't suggest getting that $5.25 Ackee patty because you're going to be upset lol. Now it's tasty so I'm not mad at that but price point wise it's a bit too rich for my blood. My girlfriend and I both ordered shakes which was really delicious. This is a solid neighborhood Vegan cafe. The Kale and Callaloo patties are both divine. A little pricey, but seem to be handmade so I understand. The smoothies are good. I've tried the Caribbean Spicy Sausage as a small bowl recently (with rice and cabbage) and it was pretty filling. Good flavors that came together well and the meal felt worth the price. I've found the service to be inconsistent and the sole reason for my 3 star review. I'm never disappointed in the quality of the food which is why I stop in occasionally. If ordering during peak hours, call ahead for pick up. Things can get pretty busy. Overall, Natural Blend is a strong, tasty option on Malcolm X. Ital stew is perfect if you wanna do vegan but you're trying to do vegetable centric meals--Lima beans, okra, chickpeas, and potato in a curry stew. It's served with brown rice and peas and a tiny bit of cabbage. I also ordered the vegan mac and cheese. While I must say I wish there was more pepper and salt in both, I decided holding back on the sodium was probably a good idea at least for tonight. The space is welcoming and relaxing with mellow reggae tunes in the background. Lots of room for groups of 2 and a communal table out in the lovely backyard. The staff are all so pleasant too. Didn't want to leave so I ordered the 'Exotic Urge' smoothie which was SO good. Rich and creamy and textured--mango, banana, goji berries and other good things I can't recall atm. I love that they only use almond or rice milk. They even have coffee and acai bowls, which I'll have to come back for. I'm rambling and fan girling at this point, but just come. Stopped in yesterday and had such a lukewarm and kind of dangerous experience. I don't think I'll be returning. Needed a quick yet wholesome breakfast and this spot is right in the hood. I ordered a green smoothie with oat milk (a dollar extra), no juice, ackee salt fish, and a blueberry muffin. The flow of this place is terrible. If you want to grab something there's no formal line. And if you're there when the delivery guy is there you'll get pressed against a narrow passageway as his wheels roll over your toes. The young man taking the order's lack of enthusiasm was only matched by his lack of knowledge about what was available on the menu... (at 8am on a Monday?). I digress, the gentleman took my order but couldn't find a good answer when I asked if the pumpkin loaf had nuts. A brief mumble, curious raise of the eyebrow, and a subtle and unknowing shift of his shoulders re-directed me to the safe blueberry muffin. No seed or possible nuts on that. I pay my $20 and then wait for 10 minutes as another worker distractedly made my smoothie in the midst of casual conversation with another patron. Not like I had anywhere to be. Getting home with everything, the ackee and salt fish were good, and the smoothie had the sweetness of apple juice in it despite me asking for oat milk. Where I draw the line however is with the blueberry muffin. I LOVE a good blueberry muffin, but I've NEVER had them made with almond oil or extract. I knew the smell was a bit different than the vanilla I expected to encounter and after taking a single bite my mouth itches uncontrollably. When it comes to food allergies, it can be LIFE or DEATH and this place is notorious for not labeling their potentially allergic items properly and obviously. Adding insult to injury, when I called to get answers I get bounced around a multi-line system like I'm trying to call the IRS. As they say on the line "our estimated wait time is 'we soon come'". I've been in here twice. The first time I walked in, stood in line for nearly 10 minutes, and walked out because the line didn't move an inch. This was in the late morning - it seemed to be a combo of them being understaffed and just being extremely slow with making orders. Second time I walked in, I had better luck with the line. I asked the young guy taking my order if they had decaf espresso. He told me they did. I ordered and paid for a decaf americano. I went to the area where you wait to pick up your items (Side note: the flow of traffic on the inside is absolutely awful. You'll have no idea where to stand or move if you're going there for the first time so good luck with that). After a few minutes, the young lady making my drink asks me if I ordered the decaf americano - I tell her yes. She tells me that they don't have decaf espresso and in her next breath tells me that they just got a bag of decaf beans that same morning but she doesn't want to open the bag for me. I - what? Why would you say something like that to a customer? I didn't want to make a fuss and ask for a refund because I was short on time so I just took the caffeinated drink instead. This restaurant sells Jamaican style breakfast such as ackee and saltfish but with spelt dumplings (healthy yay) and different types of porridge like cornmeal. I took my boyfriend there on Saturday and he loved it. Their smoothies and fresh juices are also good. Last time I went, I had the small jerk chicken dinner with a side of Mac. I wasn't 100% a fan of the Mac but the dinner was so yummy. Besides the food, the customer service is great and they'll even walk you through the menu.
