Like Sprouts, Natural Grocers is not a real grocery store -- in spite of having "Grocers" in their name! This is more like a specialty convenience store for healthy/hippy/trendy/allergy-friendly packaged food. But unlike Sprouts, Natural Grocers doesn't even have a meat counter. It's an OK place to duck into if you need a quick bottle of kombucha or some bulk beans. But I would not attempt to do your weekly shopping here unless your dietary/allergy restrictions require it. read more

Good selection of organic fresh produce. As a grocery store it is pretty good but lacks depth and variety in products. Unfortunately I have to shop at three stores to get what I like in foods. Huge selection of vitamins and supplies. Disappointed that they use plastic bags for bagging of fresh fruits and vegetables. Prepackaged fruits and vegetables are sometimes in plastic bags (ie watercress). I wished they would use biodegradable paper like many grocery stores do in Germany. Do Not Go Here - I regurally come to this store to refill my water jugs. Today, I was accused of stealing when my 5 gallon bottle looks NOTHING like the ones sold here. Samantha, a cashier with a dark bob hairdo, was the most rude cashier I've ever had. I said "hi" to her, she ignored me while she smacked her gum. I was unloading my handheld basket and was clearly struggling with it as the conveyor belt was moving it toward her while I attempted to keep it in place with one hand, and she literally just watched me while open mouth chewing her gum, didn't ever greet me or make small talk throughout the entire check out process, ignoring my attempts. I legitimately thought she was mute. Then she just said "card?" When it was time to pay, and I said "yes," and inserted my card. The only other thing she said was "do you want your receipt?" to which I declined. There was absolutely no line, I was the only one checking out at any of the registers. I went here in Jan 7th at 12:55pm. I am on crutches because I recently broke my foot and my boyfriend and I were searching the store for 15 min looking for 10mg DHEA. After getting frustrated and not seeing any helpful employees to provide any type of customer service on the flor I went up to the register and asked if there was any employees that are working on the floor to help me. The guy at the cash register said yes 1 and he would calll her for me. I look over to the left where there are chairs to the right of the fruit area and this girl gets up from sitting down and starts walking over. I asked her if she was the 1 employee that is working the floor and she replied yes. I told her what I was looking for and she had no clue even what DHEA was. After looking at me like a deer in headlights she said they don't carry it because it wasn't in her little book she pulled out of her apron. I then went to the next isle told my boyfriend let's go. Since they didn't have DHEA we put back the vitamins we were going to purchase. What amazed me most is that after she told me they didn't have it she walked right back to the same spot she came from sitting in a chair going back to what was perceived by me as personal work- computer and notebook. Anyhow point is If you are looking for a natural store with friendly employees who know how to provide customer service DON'T GO HERE! read more

I came here today which resulted in me wanting to do a happy dance at the end of my visit. I really just needed orange juice but decided to see what else the store offered since I normally frequent Trader Joe's but it is a long drive. I also shop at King Scoopers which has a limited amount of organic food. First of all, I was approached by three different employees as I was wondering the store. Very friendly service which is what will make me a loyal customer despite competitors. I hope a manager reads this because they should know their employees are doing it right. Secondly, the store was clean and organized. Last of all, the selection of the store fits my personal needs. I make everything from scratch and constantly need to buy the basics in produce and other things. Prices seemed competitive on the items I'll come back to buy. Overall, my experience was excellent and exceeded my expectations. This will result in me coming back and telling friends to come here as well. read more

I LIKE that they have such a great selection of flours, grains, seasonings and spices. I would LOVE if it was bulk and not prepackaged. This store is fairly small though so having a large bulk section is probably not a possibility. I do like that it is small and not a HUGE store. There is a big area of the store dedicated to vitamins and other various tonics and lotions. I've never looked too much so cannot point out anything interesting but it is a large area and I'm guessing they may have some things here that other stores do not carry. Love the variety of cooking oils and sweeteners. Would like to see a larger produce section. There is a good selection of packaged foods that I'm assuming are supposed to be better for you than what the big grocery stores carry. They do not have bags here so bring along your own. They do have boxes you can have to carry your purchases out. I've shopped here about a dozen times and never had to wait to check out. They always have plenty of check outs open. The workers all seem helpful and always greet me when I'm in there, sometimes the same person greets me more than once which I get a kick out of. read more

I loved Natural Grocers at their Southern Cross shopping center location. Staff was friendly, personable, and the store had everything i needed without being pretentious. Since moving to their new location on South Nevada, the selection of food seems to be smaller while their pseudoscience BS section seems to have expanded. The floor layout is inefficient and doesn't seem to give them any greater space for more food items. They have an entire aisle of dog food and way too much space devoted to Kambucha. The bulk section is no bigger, the dairy section is no bigger, the frozen food selection is no bigger, the baking section is no bigger, the pasta section is no bigger, etc., but the dog food section is bigger as are the junk food sections. Besides not having an expanded food selection, now in order to check out you are corralled into a communal line and are called one by one to the next available checkout. This is seemingly done for efficiency, but it seems to take longer than just queueing at individual registers. The staff since moving to the new location have had a personality switch and are just downright rude now. I am not the only one to notice this. My husband and my mother have also commented on the rudeness of the staff since the move. It really is almost worth driving to the north end of town and going to the Natural Grocers on North Academy they have a better selection and a nicer atmosphere. The south location just makes me mad whenever I go in there, and I used to love going to the small, more friendly one they moved out of. read more

This place has everything I need and there are great sales. There's always healthy meats, kale is always in stock, there's a machine for filtered water by the gallon(s). All the paleo items are here such as coconut milk, GF chocolate chips, coconut flour, almond meal, I even saw coconut sugar. Good selection of bulk spices but they are prepackaged so you can't get just a tablespoon to try out a spice (usually 1/4 cup or so per bag). I haven't noticed a "local produce" section which would be nice because it's nice to support the local farmers. Also, there are soy free eggs. I agree with the reviewer regarding this being a great alternative to WF's. read more

The reason I give this a three stars has to do with pricing. This place has an awesome food selection and other assorted wares. So if you need to get organic or gluten free food, this is the place to find a huge selection. Again, I believe people who don't go there that often will have sticker shock. Also you need to bring your own grocery bags, so don't forget those. The location is in an old part of town, where the less fortunate live and frequent. New shops and restaurants are going up, but the area is still being gentrified. With that being said, they have a security guard on location, so I'd go during the day time if you want to shop there. My go to for herbs and healthy stuff you can't find elsewhere. The prices are always reasonable. They have a great selection of dairy free, soy free, and gluten free products. They also had the best prices for an organic turkey at Thanksgiving. The staff is always willing to look up herbs they don't have in stock and let you know when they will have them again Tip-don't forget your cloth bags. I like that they don't use plastic bags because as well all SHOULD know, they're bad for the environment and Wildlife. It's great to have a healthy store with the nice variety they have here. Sadly they are moving further north in the south Nevada development project. Not far, but less convenient. The one drawback to living on the south side is all the other similar stores are up north. It's almost like we are forgotten down here. Love this store! Great organic options with much better pricing than Whole Foods and Sprouts and it's close to where we live!!! It's much smaller, but nice to be able to stop in frequently for a few items to whip up a delicious and healthy dinner. The food choices are very seasonal, but that just makes it more fun and encourages you to create menu alternatives or try something new. Love that I can by organic coconut milk here for my fabulous Thai dishes! I was also able to sign up for the non-GMO initiative at this location too - hoping to get us on the ballot for a vote. read more

Horrible experience, horrible product. Service: Cashier was friendly, but item was incorrectly priced. Went to service counter to get the price adjusted, but employees that walked by ignored me. When I asked if anyone would be able to help me was told that I would have to wait in line to get the price adjusted. Waited in line twice to correct their mistake. Product: Daughter wanted to eat the produce that we purchased, as I peeled the mango I noticed that it had definitely been frozen. As I cut into it I realized the entire mango was rotten despite having looking very fresh on the outside. I am not sure if all of the organic produce here is frozen, but if it is there is no guarantee of quality. Frozen produce often looks fresh, but rots easier and quicker as it thaws.
