The owner of the company Jamie cancelled my appointment after he sent me a text saying "Just a remider we'll be there tomorrow around 9 am, have a good day." I did not realize he wanted a confirmation so I did not reply, and he called back after 5 pm saying he cancelled my appoinment. When I kindly suggested that they ask for a reply he got offended and cancelled my appointment all together and told me to find another company. Long story short: Natural Light Skylight talked me through my problem when others did the bare minimum or tried to upsell me on work I didn't need; they got the problem fixed before others even got a bid in, and at very reasonable cost. Fast, courteous, communicative - this is how working with a contractor SHOULD go. Short story long: We had a hard rain a few weeks back, and my skylight chose that moment to fail. I called everyone I knew chasing down references, and wound up speaking to six different companies, as well as Mark at Natural Light Skylight. In all the time I spent talking to folks, Mark was the only person to really listen to me, talk me through the issues, and talk me through my options. I left our conversation *understanding* my problem, while everyone else I spoke to gave me the bare minimum of information, or tried to use my lack of expertise to further their own ends. Mark promptly arranged a very kind and thorough gentleman named Tim to come out and do the work, answer all my additional questions, and walk me through every concern I had. I was still getting bids days and weeks later, when these folks already had the work DONE - much appreciated in the rainy season! No go! I have had a very frustrating couple of experiences with this company. I ordered three skylights, and when I drove out to Beaverton to pick them up, one flashing kit was 'missing' and wouldn't be available for another week. I had to insist that they deliver it to my house to save me another trip. When the flashing kit arrived (it was more than a week), the box was damaged. When I emailed the company about it, they said all they could do was supply me with another one if I drove out there and swapped flashing kits. I emailed and said I would be out the next day at 2 pm (I shouldn't have to pick up damaged parts, they should deliver). When I arrived the next day at 2 pm, they had a flashing kit, but it had been poached for parts, so was no longer a complete kit. Long story short, I got unorganized vibes from this company the first time I spoke with them on the phone, and every experience after that has affirmed my suspicions. Not helpful, don't seem committed to customer satisfaction, and incredibly unprofessional. read more

Last fall Mark put gaskets on our existing skylights to seal them against air leaks and all the dust that was getting in from the gravel road we live on. This spring I saw bugs coming and going at the top of the the skylight wells, and I doubted the effectiveness of what Mark had done. He came out again, and found that the drywall at the top of the wells was not finished properly, allowing bugs to enter from the attic. Although he said he doesn't usually do that, he sealed all these places with caulk for us. We haven't seen a bug since. Mark is a very knowledgable, personable guy who really cares about a job well done. I recommend him highly. read more

Natural Light Skylight (NLS) has unscrupulous business practices. I asked them for an estimate on my leaking skylights, which they assured me would be free. During the estimate they indicated that covering them in Plastic would temporarily fix the problem until the weather improved. They charged me $150 to install 2 plastic sheets which took about 15 minutes. Because they were already on my roof, it was clearly a way of NLS turning a free estimate into a money making job. After the skylights continued to leak, I had a roofer install new skylights and they told me who ever put on the plastic tarps "ripped me off" since it was clear that would not cure the problem even temporarily. I asked for a 50% refund since I was trying to be fair since they had some time and material invested. They refused. Stay away from this business and use a licensed roofer. These guys were also about 25% higher than a roofer for installing the exact same skylights. read more

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. Mark came within hours of my call because I thought my skylight was leaking. After an inspection of the roof and the skylight, Mark told me I did not need a new skylight and instead identified the source of the leaks and temporarily repaired them. He did not even charge me extra for parts. I will definitely use this company when I do need to replace my skylight. Mark is a very honest contractor. read more

Mark is fantastic ! Our son and his wife have lived in their mid-century home for about 9 years. It was built in the early 50's. The skylight worked well until recently when it developed a small leak. Not knowing who to call, Mark came based on the high recommendations of a friend who has multiple skylights. Mark was outstanding. For older skylights, he has developed a very proprietary method to seal the window from the elements. It has worked wonderfully! read more
