Six years ago I developed a red rash in the middle of my back. I'm an avid runner so I assumed it was attributed to friction caused by my sports bra. Over the next two years the rash would fade and then gradually come back. When the itching and burning finally got to a point I could no longer tolerate, I went to see a dermatologist. He gave me a very brief exam, told me that I was having an allergic reaction, and directed me to take Benadryl until I could rule out what was causing the breakout. (I should mention here, I despise taking any kind of medication.) Not wanting to endure the grogginess caused by an antihistamine for any length of time, I immediately eliminated anything and everything I thought had caused the rash. Laundry detergent. Dryer sheets. Body wash. Lotion. Shampoo. I even purchased all new cotton sports bras in fear I had an allergy to Spandex. NOTHING WORKED. In fact, the rash got worse! It spread to my chest and had gotten itchier than ever! I was completely devastated. I eventually convinced myself I was allergic to my own sweat and nothing could be done to cure me. The rash continued to get bigger, redder, and unrulier. I was suffering from the inside out. I was self-conscious and painfully uncomfortable all the time. On occasion, I would scratch my skin so hard that clear liquid would come out ... ewwww! This went on for YEARS. In early 2017 I had undergone PRK surgery on my eyes. The freedom of not having to wear contacts and glasses anymore made me feel like a billion bucks. It also got me back to thinking about that damn rash! I could only imagine how fabulous I'd feel if I could somehow get rid of it. As soon as my eyes were fully healed, I began researching local skin doctors. That's when I stumbled across Dr. Amy. With amazing patient reviews and a very professional and informative website, I felt really good about giving Dr. Amy a call. When she answered the phone and actually said she could see me that same day, I was completely blown away! A few hours later, I was sitting in her office. When I first met Dr. Amy, it felt like I was reconnecting with an old friend from college. Her kind, caring, and genuine nature made it so easy to talk to her. She spent almost a full 30 minutes asking me a variety of questions on diet, sleep patterns, exercise, health, etc. Then she looked at my rash. Within seconds, she told me she believed I had either a dairy or gluten allergy. I was ASTONISHED. In all the years of dealing with this hideous rash, not once did I ever tie it to food! Ok, so now I felt like I was getting somewhere! Dr. Amy put me on an elimination diet, which meant no dairy or gluten/wheat for a full month. She also gave me a supplement and some topical cream to use. I left the appointment feeling extremely positive. Dr. Amy must have sensed my excitement because she even gave me a hug good-bye! Ready to hear the best part of my story? My six-year-old rash cleared 100% within three days of seeing Dr. Amy. It was miraculous! Now I'm going on almost a solid two full months of being rash-free. I've gone back to see Dr. Amy twice for check-ups and she was just as excited as I was over the results. I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Amy to anyone who is experiencing skin issues and is looking for a natural way to get phenomenal results. Knowledgeable and nice personality when you meet with her, but verging on unethical- I told her about a product I had and a couple days later in an email she asked me if I could make a copy of it for her. Well not only is that abusing her authority and making me worried to say no (what if she treated me differently as a patient because I refused?) but it's also illegal due to the type of product (copyright laws). Also, she asked me for a favor, yet charged me full price for my appointment (didn't take my insurance)- this seemed too off to me and made me very uncomfortable to go back to her. read more

Dr. Amy Duong has changed my life! I had psoriasis that no other doctor could cure. I have seen several other dermatologists and all of them left me helpless. I was told that it would never go away. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Dr. Duong. I went to her for help for my daughter's eczema and initially Dr. Duong had a good idea. Unfortunately, she seemed more interested in money than people. I paid over $400 and Dr. Duong would say things like "I'm not sure where to go from here" or "do you have any ideas?". It did not seem like she had the knowledge one should have for charging such a steep rate. The diet she recommended for my daughter ended up causing lethargy because it simply was not enough nutrients (basically only fruits and veggies). Later, after paying for a follow-up session, Dr. Duong told me to call with an update about her last idea she had. When I did call, I was informed that giving her the 5-10 minute verbal update would cost me $50. She would not answer questions over e-mail, but would only answer them verbally for a $50 charge. I am sure Dr. Duong can and does help some people, but I am saddened that it is at such a financial cost. I do feel as though it takes advantage of the people desperate to find some solution for eczema or other skin issues. read more

My son had terrible eczema. After coating him in steroids prescribed by dermatologists and pediatricians for years, I decided I had to try something different. I found Dr. Amy's information from an eczema related website/blog and set up a long distance appointment via FaceTime, completely unsure of how it would work. Our first appointment was nearly one hour long; it was amazing to have a doctor spend that much time with you. Even though we had done allergy testing and confirmed my son had no food allergies, Dr. Amy convinced me to try an elimination diet. I was really overwhelmed at the thought of how to feed my son on such a strict diet. She was so helpful in giving me menu ideas and was always willing to answer a quick question via: text. She also prescribed supplements to aid in restoring his gut health. Within a few months we were able to pinpoint exactly what foods were triggering his eczema. While I would have never wanted anyone to tell me up front that we would end up changing to a dairy, corn, and gluten free life, the results are nothing short of miraculous. My son now has beautiful, soft skin. I should also add that both his pediatrician and allergist look at me like I'm practicing voodoo when I tell him how we got the results. They still stick to their story of, "no one knows what causes eczema, he might grow out of it, just use steroids in the meantime" even when I've found the answer through food sensitivities. Dr. Duong is the best Doctor of any type I've ever encountered. She is insightful, considerate and skilled in her her profession--but most importantly her treatments have worked where all others have failed. Through acupuncture, cupping and electro-stim she has been able to change my back pain from a daily, crippling reality to something that has virtually disappeared. I came to her with multiple orthopedic injuries that conventional Western medicine failed to treat. Under her weekly care over the period of three months Dr. Duong has minimized my pain and improved my function to a degree I had long since given up ever achieving. Simply put, I used to be in constant pain--I am now almost pain free. She achieved in three months what ten years of going to conventional Western doctors failed to achieve--while forever indulging my novice questions, patiently explaining her treatments, and even recommending books to enhance my understanding of naturopathic medicine. It would be difficult for me to effectively express the depth of my gratitude for Dr. Duong. It will have to suffice to say that her treatments have worked for me beyond my wildest possible expectations; that I appreciate her approachability and confidence, and that I consider being her patient a great privilege. read more

I was not satisfied with my visit. I was very encouraged by all the 5 star reviews, but frankly Dr. Duong did not seem thorough or even sufficiently knowledgeable to me. For a naturopath- her examination seemed pretty superficial to me, she ignored a few concerns that I brought up altogether, she expressed that she had "never heard of diastasis recti"- her words ( which happens to be a pretty common condition that I think a medical practitioner should at least have heard of!). Her recommendations on the skin products for me to use were based SOLELY on what she likes to use for her own skin, as she expressed- when I feel it should have been based on her examination of MY skin type and needs. When I discussed my goal to gain weight and mentioned lack of appetite- there was no interest in exploring some underlying metabolic or other causes, she simply advised to stuff protein powders in my food or dissolve in water and drink, really??! read more
