I have Kaiser Permanente medical insurance, which covers acupuncture, and chose this clinic from the list of approved providers. When I arrived, the acupuncturist took my insurance card and ID to make a copy, which led me to believe everything was properly set up. After my session, I was surprised to be asked to pay $60 in cash. I explained that my insurance should cover the treatment, and he even acknowledged that Kaiser covers $40. However, he then admitted that he hadn't set up his account with Kaiser yet. I was very disappointed with the lack of transparency. He should have informed me upfront that he wasn't yet able to process insurance claims. Instead, I was left with an unexpected out-of-pocket expense. While I understand he recently took over the business, clear communication with patients is essential. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling frustrated, and I won't be returning. read more

*Read this* The acupuncturist does not speak English well and seems like he do not have any interest listen to my medical history. He answered all my questions with "okok" I thought he must be really good with his technique since all of the reviews on Yelp are positive, so I decided to give it a try anyway. I was soooooo wrong! I should have run away when I walk into a dark dirty tiny little room with dust all over (even the tray holding cotton balls , tools and needles are dusty) He started to randomly poking needles on my back, and it felt very painful like the needle is pinching on the wrong nerves ( I had been to few different acupuncture place in LA before and I knew something is not right). After 30 minutes unattended ( he was in another room listening to music and watching YouTube) I ended up having more pain before I walk in. This is a really horrible experience! I went in to get treated for severe knee pain from a torn muscle that resulted from a bad weight training workout. I could not walk or drive because I would have pain whenever I bent my knee. With just a few sessions of acupuncture I was able to walk/drive again pain-free. From our consultation I could tell that he's very knowledgeable in a broad scope of different conditions. Dr. Shin SAVED my life. Literally. I had liver damage 4 months ago and felt as though my liver and diaphragm had frozen in my chest. Muscle spasms under right rib cage constantly. Dr.Shin is the most excellent acupuncturist I ever met. I had right neck and shoulder pain for more than 6 months, so I went to the MRI and they found minor rotator cuff tear. I had 2 steroid injections from two different doctors with no relief. When I was thinking of surgery, I heard about Dr.Shin from one of my coworkers. After 3 weeks of acupuncture, now I'm pain free and recover much of the strength of arm. Before the acupuncture, I had sharp pain whenever I raise or twist the arm and I couldn't sleep at night because of aching pain. Dr.Shin is an intelligent, experienced and very kind man. Dr. Shin did a great job on my back pain. I really appreciate his acupuncture because I was on the verge of major surgery before I met Dr. Shin. I had a big disc extrusion on my lower back which I believe to be correlated to sitting in front of my computer for too long. I am a computer technician who spent most of the time on computers for 20 years. Before I decided to go on a major surgery, one of my friends told me about Dr. Shin. I was skeptical at first but couple acupuncture sessions changed my skepticism to optimism. It's amazing how he does acupuncture and ultrasound. I have found the holy grail of acupuncture! Dr. Shin is amazing. I've been twice. Once with a runny nose and sinus headache. He did reflexology for almost 40 min and my nostril opened up and headache diminished almost instantly! Then the second time for lower back pain. He performed regular acupuncture and some kind of sound wave acupuncture and I literally walked out feeling like new! My lower back had been sore for 2 days. He also offers herbs. He is very patient and very intelligent. I love that he does both reflexology and acupuncture. You have to try the reflexology! It's insane how sensitive one foot can be over the other. Just left the office and learned a lot about what's giving me aches and pains. My visit was about 2 hours long where I felt he gave me enough information to help me be in tuned with my body. I went in for acupuncture but they also have other services you should ask about. I feel relaxed and I'm so excited for my spinal adjustment as well as a deep tissue massage. (I go to other places for that) I go to get muscle relief through acupuncture though so its easier for my chiropractor and masseuse. I am so very blessed to have found Dr. Shin because it is truly a gamble trying to find a good acupuncturist. I have been struggling with severe chronic neck pain and migraines for two years. I have seen my neurologist numerous times, have had CT scans and have been on every kind of pain medication that made me feel worse because I was unable to function. ONE visit with Dr. Shin and I could not believe how good I felt the next morning. He took his time with me, does not make you feel rushed and he truly cares about helping you.
