It has one public restroom ( which is rare in these mountain areas) and has no water to wash hands because it is a chemical toilet . The view is beautiful, water crystal clear . A group of ducks were swimming towards us . They had no fear of human probably because no one tried to harm them before . The attitude is high there so oxygen is less than what we used to . We did not stay in the campground here…read more I've been following Twin Lakes Resort on social media for sometime now due to the epic community and mountain culture they've cultivated here over the years. It's a place with real roots. Families make traditions of coming here and I can see why. Many of the lakes in the Sierra are hard to access due to limited development and parking, but Twin Lakes has struck the right balance offering opportunities for day trippers and campers the like. Coming up from the valley below the lakes, I never imagined there'd be quite the lively "town center" we came upon. The general store is clearly a central gathering place where fish stories are swapped and visitors can stock up on basics, grab a bite or a bloody marry, and snag all the local intel and tackle they'll need to catch a big one in the waters directly across the street. Unlike the other small stores I visited, the staff here was GOLD! They were incredibly friendly, full of info, engaging and welcoming too! Our kids got to participate in a scavenger hunt and after finishing it got to choose rad prizes. The merchandise in the store is also AMAZING! I decided I'd buy a hat or shirt after I get my first big trout out of the lakes. They also offer boat rentals at the marina with everything from kayaks and SUP to larger pontoon boats. We had hoped to rent a pontoon for the day but got there a bit later in the day and missed out. Apparently you can reserve online (I must've missed the link when looking) and the rates are super reasonable (less than $300 for the day on a pontoon for up to 8). It kind of worked out because the wind kicked up and that would've likely ended our day on the water, but I'd love to do a half day starting in the morning! This isn't a secret of any kind, but it's somewhere more folks from the Reno area need to explore.

This was a great overnight car camp for us with our 7-yr-old, 5-yr-old and border collie. We…read morearrived at 4pm on a Wednesday in July and had no problem securing a site fairly close to the lake. The campsite was nice--not secluded but neighbors were quiet and respectful. There is a sizeable bear container, picnic table and fire pit with a grill but I would recommend bringing your own wood as the campground offerings are expensive. Restrooms were as clean as they could be There are no campsites on the lake, but it's a short walk to get down to it and what an amazing place it is! Small, it would probably only take half an hour to walk around, and loaded with rainbow trout. There is also a beaver lodge and we were thoroughly entertained by three of it's inhabitants through the evening. There was also a young buck in velvet that was hanging out lakeside both in the evening and the early morning. And his little doe friend hopped right through the campground at one point! We ate breakfast at the Virginia Lakes Resort restaurant and while the food was simple, it was good. And it was nice not to have to worry about cooking and cleaning at the campsite! The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner as well as beverages to stay or to go (Sierra Nevada on tap). Little Virginia and Big Virginia are both drive-up lakes, and they were VERY crowded by shore fishermen, boaters and float tubers. No motors here, but row boats were available for rent at the resort. There are some easily-accessible high-elevation lakes just above Big Virginia but you'll have to bring your own map, as the Wilderness offers no signs of guidance...and i'm not giving much more away as the upper lakes were a nice, quiet retreat from the madness below :)

In previous years, the campground host would have never allowed such egregious behavior from site 29. My parents; who are in their 60s, may not ever camp again because of the patrons in site 29. I hope that you see that getting rid of the old host was a massive oversight and your campground has gone to hell.
