Finally stopped at this place after passing it by so many times. Checked out the last tub first and made my way back the other way. It was really peaceful, quiet, and calm. Only saw a few couples who were all super friendly. Trails are super well maintained and well marked. The views are incredible and the temperature of the pools was perfect around noon. Very warm, but not too warm with the sun. Would definitely recommend taking the little 15 detour of a drive up and spending a little time here, even if you don't plan on getting in! Good vibes all around.

Just stunning! Out in the middle of nowhere and just so beautiful. We went just before Christmas and there were no crowds.

This is a nice place if you want to go relax for a moment. It's 2 hours from Reno over 395 I must admit that the scenic route that this road has is incredible There are 4 different small pools in two of them the water is warm and in the other two it is hot. The water is clean, only it looks dirty because of the sediments on the ground. What I don't like is that in the pools there are some bugs that bite you horrible. From there on out my experience was beautiful and quiet.

Pretty cool hot springs beautiful scenery easy paths to get to the springs basically a loop, but be aware of your surroundings I walked right over this guy scared me to death. Lol of course the hubby needed a picture. It's nature just be mindful

Totally unexpected stop, when I turned down going to a pool hot spring in Tahoe. On our way to home to LA, I decided to google for fun and games to my surprise a nature hot spring was 9 minutes away. It was chilly outside but the hot spring was so nice and warm. Totally worth it

This location is about 2.5 hours away from North Lake Tahoe. We went during the weekday and it was empty! I'd highly recommend going during the weekday. The 1st pool was big enough for about 5-6 people but VERY hot.

It doesn't appear so, but this pool was steaming hot.

Hearing that the clothing-optional Travertine Hot Springs is crowded, with difficult parking on weekends, I downed my coffee on a Monday morning and headed straight over. Parking was easy (the dirt access road ends in a parking lot with restrooms). Nearest the parking lot sits a single bubbling pool and the two people (both wearing bathing suits) who were using it were getting out when I approached. "It's too hot for me" declared the gentleman, "but not for her" he reported, cocking his head towards his partner. Another man stood nearby, swilling his coffee as I tentatively made my way into the pool. Initially too hot for me as well, I inched my way in for a soak. The man standing nearby knew a thing or two about natural thermal springs though, and while we chatted he used a rock and a funky old sock to divert some of the boiling water from the pool I was inching into, helping the pool to cool a bit. The rest of the pools were down nearby paths and described as "about a football field away". This single pool however - which I came to learn is generally always occupied - proved satisfying enough for a morning soak and I ventured no further. Travertine Hot Springs was the first location listed in the Discoverer blog's "7 Must-See Hot Springs in the U.S." post. The pool I sat in was perfectly fine though I've experienced nicer hot springs in the U.S. in the past. The blog post mentions the stunning views of the Sierras and that's accurate though it would be difficult, in these parts, for anyplace not to feature such views. If you're in the area, enjoy thermal hot springs, and are seeking a cost-free activity, Travertine Hot Springs is certainly worth a visit regardless of whether or not you've packed a swimsuit.

Travertine Hot Springs is beautiful, off the grid, and so worth walking an hour to get there. If you ask me, going here during off season is 100% worth it. No crowds, quiet, and you're literally alone in a hot spring with amazing views of the mountains and snow. My friend and I came in early February. The snow was pretty high that even in my Jeep, it would be impossible to drive to the actual Travertine parking lot. So what did we do? We parked and walked an hour in snow just to get there. It was totally worth the difficulty of walking in fresh powdered snow haha. There even came to a point where we thought about turning back but I'm so glad we didn't. Once you get there, you'll see a man-made hot spring and if you keep walking further you'll see plenty of secluded hot springs along the way. It was cold and snowy, but the water was boiling hot that it made every part of my body feel relaxed. Hell, if you can, get in naked because it's worth it lol. The hot mineral water is eggy but boy does it feel so good on your skin. Again, if you're capable and willing, 100% come during off season. No crowds and you'll have everything to yourself. Definitely a core memory for me and will come back again sometime in the future. Don't forget to take a pic of the Nevada sign if you're heading back as well haha

Perfect weather and water temperatures. Had a cold plunge area that fed into hot pools which helped regulate the hot springs.

I was so so happy that we got all of the Hot Springs all to ourselves. There were some at the top and some at the bottom. Parking was really close too.

"The Discoverer Blog" recently featured "7 Must-See Hot Springs in the U.S." At the top of the list was Travertine Hot Springs! Since it is only a couple hours drive from Reno, we decided to take a day trip there to check it out. At Bridgeport, you take a bumpy, but fairly wide, dirt road to get to the parking lot. When we arrived there were several other cars there already but had no trouble getting a spot. We took a short path to find the hot springs featured in most of the photos of Travertine Hot Springs. Since there were several people there already, we decided to hike around and explore the area. The surroundings here are breathtakingly beautiful! As we walked around, we were struck by all of the salt caked in clumps on the ground that looked a lot like snow. We also come across several other pools but they are not hot at all. By the time we made our way back to the main pools one was empty, so we were able to soak for a little while. The water was warm, not hot, but it was a lovely experience and a nice little getaway.

The shallowest and coolest hot spring. Notice, it's the empty one...

Ask the Community - Travertine Hot Spring

Is it open during winter? If so , the water is hot?

Is the private own or public? Do u hv to book in advance during the pandemic?

It's located on public land. It's free to enter and park. However, it's incredibly popular. Be prepared to wait. If you can go midweek in off season. And of course, leave no trace. :)

Anyone know if they are still barricading this?

We went in 6/25 and there were no barricades

Any new info if I'm this is accessible?

    Where are the closest hotels?

Ruby Inn in Bridgeport is usually open this time of year (Winter). During the rest of the season there is: Walker River Lodge, Bridgeport Inn & Redwood Inn.

Do you have to pay to get in here? How much is it?

Nope, it's free. Just please respect the land.

Where are the pools in relation to the bathroom me and my girlfriend went there last night and I couldn't find anything?

Before you arrive and park near the bathroom, you pass one on your right about 100 feet beforehand. The other(s) are located a short hike past the bathroom and there is a path to the right.

Are there any spider mites or harmful bacteria in water? Any precautions to take other than do not immerse head under water?

No, water comes from underground - very hot, but you can still sit in the very small pools. I would bring a thermometer to make sure of safe water temperature.

About how far is it to hike from the parking lot to the 2nd or 3rd hot spring?

Just a short walk over the hill to the second, never been to the third. I guess I have to find it!

Are the pools easy to access in early March?

I’ve been there around that time, not a problem, but I guess traveling the road is weather dependent. If there were a lot of snow, it could be difficult.

Are the pools warm in january?

As far as I know they are always hot. I've been only during the winter like Jan and Feb and it was splendid.

    Is it clothing optional?

Yes, this is a clothing optional hot spring. I've seen more nude people here than clothed ones.

    Does the hot springs close?

I didnt see any gates. We just mobbed up the hill and parked. I believe its no camping or overnight parking tho

Thinking of going with our 8 month old baby?

Do it! It's secluded and nice!

I have been to these hot springs multiple times, but I have never camped. Does anyone know if you can build a fire?

https://www.monocounty.org/places-to-go/hot-springs/ It says you can camp on the road to the hot… Read more

He…read moresingle-handedly saved what could have been a disastrous trip with his calm demeanor, experience, and generous spirit. Having stayed at a few RV resorts now, I have four criteria that add up to a five star experience: Service, Amenities, Cleanliness, and Community Vibes. Willow Springs scores 5/5 on service, cleanliness, and community vibes. The property sits just off HWY 395 with the majority of the sites situated towards the back of the property, beautifully surrounded by the hills. The property and all sites are pristine with small bits of shade provided by adjacent cottonwoods and evergreens, and during our stay we enjoyed a steady breeze that made the temps quite enjoyable. Each night the host creates a community campfire that burns hot and long, bringing everyone together. They provide the wood and Michael tends to it, and they even have the large sticks for roasting marshmallows too. Connecting with people from all over around the fire was the highlight for me! Amenity wise, they have two nice gas grills with a nice picnic area, a large DVD library, basketball hoop and concrete pad to play on. There's also supposed to be stocked trout pond, but it was dry on our visit due to a missing pump that's supposed to be fixed soon. Recreationally that's about it. There aren't any hiking trails accessible from the property nor anything walking distance, that basketball area is located right next to the highway, and the lot is gravel so not ideal for bikes, which is why as family travelers, I'll say the property tries, but this isn't the most ideal. That said we still had fun. I'd recommend this as a great basecamp in the Bridgeport/Twin Lakes area!

We were staying up the road and walked down to check out the fish hatchery. After reading about the program we decided we needed to bring our kids to see it. It's a place with real roots. Families make traditions of coming here and I can see why. Many of the lakes in the Sierra are hard to access due to limited development and parking, but Twin Lakes has struck the right balance offering opportunities for day trippers and campers the like. Coming up from the valley below the lakes, I never imagined there'd be quite the lively "town center" we came upon. The general store is clearly a central gathering place where fish stories are swapped and visitors can stock up on basics, grab a bite or a bloody marry, and snag all the local intel and tackle they'll need to catch a big one in the waters directly across the street. Unlike the other small stores I visited, the staff here was GOLD! They were incredibly friendly, full of info, engaging and welcoming too! Our kids got to participate in a scavenger hunt and after finishing it got to choose rad prizes. The merchandise in the store is also AMAZING! I decided I'd buy a hat or shirt after I get my first big trout out of the lakes. They also offer boat rentals at the marina with everything from kayaks and SUP to larger pontoon boats. We had hoped to rent a pontoon for the day but got there a bit later in the day and missed out. Apparently you can reserve online (I must've missed the link when looking) and the rates are super reasonable (less than $300 for the day on a pontoon for up to 8). It kind of worked out because the wind kicked up and that would've likely ended our day on the water, but I'd love to do a half day starting in the morning! This isn't a secret of any kind, but it's somewhere more folks from the Reno area need to explore.
