I stayed on the Hickam side for two nights, and it was pretty nice, but with a few " buts." First of all, the room was very nice. I was in a two room suite, there was a living room, a kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge, the bed was comfortable, everything was spotless, and the employees were friendly. There was a TV in each room, and enough storage space. There are vending machines and a free Laundry available. The big problems I had, was that first of all, while the price was reasonable, I had to pay extra for a room with a shorter walking distance to the passenger terminal. I guess that's a "premium"..... As I mentioned, there was a kitchenette with a dining nook,, but absolutely zero plates, cups, bowls, or silverware. I called over to the front desk. Thinking they had them available. I just had to go pick them up, no. They do not provide them. What's the purpose of having a kitchenette????? The biggest complaint? The Wi-Fi. It wasn't just bad, it. *SUCKED!*. Occasionally, I could watch videos on my iPad, but most of the time, it was just buffering. And, the room was in a cellular "hole", so I couldn't use my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. I would stay here again if I had like a middle of the night or very early morning flight out of the passenger terminal, but that's about it. Thanks anyway. read more

Forgot to take a photo of the room, but it's a decent room you expect for a Navy Lodge. Has everything you need and is great if you're TAD, house hunting, just need a quick place to stay for cheap, or arriving late from the passenger terminal, but I would warn that you could be walking a mile or two for your stay. My flight arrived late at the passenger terminal, and the bus on base was not running, so my wife and I had to walk 18 minutes to the check-in and the Royal Alakai. Then, once we checked around 2230 the desk was empty, and the lady working the front kind of had an attitude, but I'm not sure if that was just her personality or was actually being rude. I was then told after I had already paid and checked in and signed that my room was not nearby at all; it was going to be a mile down the road. Keep in mind I did not have a rental car or bus to get there, so my wife and I with 2 suitcases had to walk 20 minutes down the road to our actual stay. I really didn't mind the walk or this process, but for someone as my wife who is pregnant or an elderly person, I felt bad. The next morning, I just woke up, took the bus to the airport, and got a rental car. The checkout process was easy. I later found out the elderly couple who checked in after us got a stay just around the corner within a 2-minute walk. So, I'm not sure why I got sent out far away when there was someone close by to stay. Keep in mind I made my reservation 2-3 weeks in advance, so there can't be an excuse of being full or capacity reached. Maybe it was because I'm active duty and they thought I was just checking in to stay longer term? But I was just staying for one night to enjoy vacation. read more

The price seems steep for lodging with no curb appeal, dirty shower bldg..1166 2nd floor, dingey towels, stained carpet... however that isnt important. Stayed on Hickman side next to officer club this visit. Room was very clean, everything worked, no bugs and very quiet. Bed and pillows was comfortable. Only issue is towel size, as an adult it barely went around me, super thin and rough. A small upgrade to better towels would be great. Just a very poorly managed Gateway Inn. The Internet doesn't work. And they blame it on the Internet company and the Internet company blames it on them. There is a network connection - but nothing in the internet pipe. The people at the front desks wear masks behind a plastic barrier 2 years after covid. No human connection. My husband and me stayed at the Royal Alaka'i pet-friendly townhome units for 20 nights when first arrived to the island after moving here. We had a wonderful stay! Our unit was very spacious and perfect for us as we served our first 14 days in quarantine after arriving. Contrary to other reviews, we found our unit to be very clean, bright and again spacious. Staff was friendly and able to accommodate our needs despite having to socially distance from us. I would highly recommend these units to anyone who is need of a long term stay. If you don't mind the occasional visitors (big flying roaches) or ants on the bed and other flies/bugs in the room or having no privacy because the walls are made of window shutters that can easily be opened by anyone on the outside or people hearing your conversations, or the scum stained dirty tub, you'll be right at home. I Was asleep one night and was waken by a big roach crawling on my head. Haven't slept properly since then. Got up another night to use the bathroom and came out to a big roach just having a stroll on the ceiling upside down like spider man. Added a pic for reference. My water was shut off at my house for repair so I decided to stay in lodging on Pearl Harbor until it was fixed. The room they put me in was super far away from the check in desk. Like five buildings Away. Tucked behind a daycare. Hard to find. And get this.. my room was on the THIRD FLOOR.. With no elevators.. which means I had to carry my two year old and all of our stuff up four flights of stairs. The room was decent. Clean, but small and with no way to adjust the air conditioning, So it was HOT. The worst part was the room was located in a building attached to what appeared to be " dorm rooms" There were a bunch of single military members up drinking until all hours of the night at the pavilion down from my room. Even for 67.00 per night I would not stay here again. read more

Then they had the audacity to bill us a $145 "no-show" charge after we'd spent just under 2 hours in the lobby. Thankfully we were able to convince them to refund it after 4 phone calls and 2 emails, but the experience ruined us for ever trusting this place again. I just found this black mold in the main buildings ice machine, the only ice machine available to all guests. We've been using this ice for 2 weeks. Also, this mold in our bathroom was hiding behind the little trash can. I don't want to blame our sickness over the last week on this but it could definitely be the cause. read more

There was plenty of space , a kitchenette and the room was fairly clean. The thing I really disliked was the bathroom. The water pressure in the shower was horrible and the bathroom itself was horrible. I hated going in there. It is run down and outdated. And on top of all that, there was an endless line of ants. Don't check in with Rey. If you see him ask for someone else. 1. After double checking his paperwork it was still wrong. 2. If you have a 2 or a 7 in your room number you should ask him what room number it is. His 7's are apparently 2's. I even asked a hotel staff and they said, "yeah, that's a 2." 3. Upon check out, I was not "in their system" and I had to leave right away so I didn't have time to deal with it then. 5. I call back to figure it all out and Rey picks up and hangs up because he's "too busy please call back later" 5. Once I talk to Rey he tells me that I got charged a "no-show" fee some way some how. I informed him that I checked in with him the same day. I ended up calling NGIS 1-866 number to get all of this figured out. We stayed at the Mukalapa suites by the pacific fleet headquarters building and which is on a much quieter part of base. The room was very clean and the hotel staff were friendly. Only complaint is that the location is a little far from any food options and a pool, but that's not the hotel's fault. Definitely ask to stay in the Mukalapa suites if available! read more

The night after I checked in, I called the front desk to let them know the deadbolt on my door was inoperable. They sent someone to check it at that time, and the man who looked at it said it would be more work than he could do right then. No big deal, right? Then I had a 0200 to 0300 briefing that I had to be at work for, so at 0800 in the morning when the building manager stated banging on my door, I was (understandably) incoherent. I responded that I had had quite a late night, and asked her to come back later. Instead, she just went ahead and used her key to let herself in. I was in bed, not dressed, and this psycho just opened the door to my room without asking my permission, which I wouldn't have given anyway. This "hotel" is a joke. It's basically a hostel. People come and go at all hours, and the doors slamming will wake you up and startle the crap out of you. I say this having deployed three times to Afghanistan, and one of those deployments was spent living at the business end of the Kandahar Airfield runway, so it takes quite a bit to wake me up. Housekeeping starts THEIR day well before checkout time, so expect them to be cleaning the rooms adjacent to you at the crack of dawn. And yes, they will DEFINITELY wake you up. Good luck if you're TDY and working weird hours. Or if you're jetlagged. Or if you enjoy uninterrupted sleep at all. I have no idea why anyone of even the most modest means would waste an otherwise perfectly good vacation by spending any time here. I'm only stuck in this godforsaken hellhole for two weeks because work is too cheap to pay for a REAL hotel. Next time, I'll eat the difference and stay at a Ramada. Or in my car. At least that way I could lock it. read more

Terrible customer service from the very beginnings of the planning phase for our TDY. Called a month in advance to book lodging for my crew and they paired me with a point of contact who never answered her phone, never called back, never emailed me back, etc. When I tried asking for a new point of contact, they kept sending me to the same person who never answers her phone. When we had to show up to Honolulu a week early, on short notice due to mission changes, we had to book an off-base hotel due to the NGIS's unresponsiveness, and our late land time. Of course, the staff was unable to comprehend that airplanes can short-notice divert at anytime, and continued to fight us after the fact, by refusing to give us our Non-A letters. Overall, very frustrating experience. They are not accommodating or understanding to aircrew needs whatsoever. read more

Called the front desk to let them know water was brown. Went to work and got back at 10pm. Tried to shower and there was no water pressure. I call the front desk again and they tell me that the water pump was broken and there was nothing they could to about my inability to shower. After sweating the past 4 hours running around outside for work that was fantastic news. Worst customer service ever. That isn't even sanitary. No air conditioning. Half the Windows in the room don't work. Half the screens are popped off or ripped. You can't prevent light or noise into your room because the Windows never technically close and there aren't any curtains only poorly designed wooden shutters. Worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Only in the military could you get customer service that is this much of a fucking joke. Never would this happen in the private sector. read more

My daughter and I stayed at Arizona Hall for only a day! The side we were at had no air conditioning in the entire building. I called the front desk and the lady told me to use the ceiling fan and the portable fan, but it was incredibly dusty. I also noticed there were lots of ants coming out of the sink and in the bathroom on the floor it was really gross. I also found a worm on the toilet paper which disgusted me. Where do I begin?! We were without power TWICE in ONE day! Both times the power was out for hours at a time. The rooms are EXTREMELY small. My microwave abruptly stops in the middle of the session! Paying $130+ a night I expected WAY more. Totally unacceptable. Totally overrated. The only positive I can say is that the housekeepers are jewels. The front desk staff are rude and inconsiderate. I stayed at the NGIS on the COMPACFLT base. Went to the gym to workout and came back. After the second day the key wasn't working. Since the front desk isn't manned from 2300-0700, I was forced to call another NGIS for help. It took 25 minutes for the "help" to arrive and provide a replacement key. UNSAT!! This forced me to arrive 25 minutes late for scheduled meetings. Being from the mainland, his was an extreme disappointment. Since I am active duty, I have no choice but using NGIS. read more

Worst hotel experience we have ever had! When we checked in, the two front desk ladies were very sweet but it all went downhill from there. The building we stayed in was over half a way mile away from the check in desk and they don't offer a shuttle or car to get you and all your bags to your building. Also, there aren't any elevators so you if have a room above the 1st floor, you will be lugging everything yourself. We had to wait a half hour for a taxi that cost us $15.00!!!!! The room was pretty clean and a good set up, the fridge is a good size. The tv was a flat screen but the picture was constantly snowy. We only had one window looking out to a brick wall so it felt a little claustrophobic and cave like. The internet is insanely spotty. If you are not currently using it, it will kick you off, so every time you want to use it you have to log back in. This was very difficult for us considering we are on a medical TDY from Japan and our phones only work using wifi. Lack of wifi and the buildings location also made getting taxies and ubers insanely difficult!! If you try to drop a pin it will locate you on the highway and ubers cannot find you. You will have to direct them here yourself and considering we aren't from here it is difficult. Building 1507 is not an address you can put into the uber app so we had to put in the address to the front desk and direct each uber by phone. We do not have a credit card and were not authorized a rental car on our orders so we could not get one. If you can get a rental car, do it! There is nowhere to get food within a half mile of the building. Taxis know where building 1507 is but they can take up to forty five minutes to get to you and the cost for a taxi is substantially greater than using an uber. Our second day, October 4th, we called the front desk to get a taxi and my husband was hung up on twice mid sentence by the male clerk. So rude! We also found a couple dead bugs on the carpets. The one window we have has no screen and the air conditioner cannot be regulated so there is no way to control temp in the room. read more
