My family and I had a lovely stay here, the patio out back and spacious living room was great for relaxing. The one thing we weren't fond of was the washers and dryers, they didn't work very well so laundry took almost a whole day. I will definitely stay here again. read more

I decided to head to Key West a day early, without reservations, ready to sleep in my car if needed. I headed straight to the Coast Guard base, Trumbo Point, in hopes someone canceled and I lucked out! I thought the room would be like a barracks room, small with a single bed but I was quite surprised to see a regular hotel room with a single queen bed rather than two. The room has a coffee bar, mini fridge, microwave, TV, dresser, closet with iron board and fan. The bathroom is a full bath with tub, shower, and complementary toiletries. If the lounge had been open to serve food I'd give it 5 stars! If you have military ID I'd highly recommend you check out Navy Gateway for reservations. read more

Truman Annex is my favorite location to stay in, due to it's proximity to down town and you have your own beach. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with a lot great amenities near by. We have stayed at several of the gateway inns. Dam neck naval base in Dam neck Virginia. Little Creek Amphibious base in little Creek, Virginia. NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and at the NAS Jacksonville Gateway inn. All of these locations have provided us with a great nights sleep, and plenty of amenities within a short distance to cover our unexpected needs. We can also go for longer walks at night because of the base security. We look for vacation locations near the military bases because they are clean, economical, and enjoyable. read more

Great accommodations! I'm retired AF and this was our first time in Key West. We stayed at Fly Navy on Palm Ave. Our rate was $75.00 a night and we got the suite. on M-Th, they have a continental breakfast for $5.00 similar to the regular commercial hotels. Across the parking lot is a mini mart. PROS: The room has great accommodations, equipped with a fridge, micro, Kuerig coffee and tea and paper plates and bowls. Free laundry facilities. The hallways fresh smelling CONS: You can easily hear doors slamming and neighbors talking in the hallway, front desk (lady) was not as helpful or knowledgeable regarding amenities in the surrounding area such as bike rentals and/or local eatery. Regardless, if my travels allow me back to the Keys, I will definitely come back. Highly Recommended!!!! read more

The Navy lodge isn't as close to the touristy hot spots, but it is a far better stay if you have the choice. Near same price and comes with breakfast. This is a review of the trailer units used for lodging on Trumbo point. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to stay in Key West for a couple of weeks, here it is! I'll say this up front - it's military guest housing, not a Hyatt or Ritz. Anyone who's been in the military knows that DoD skimps when it comes to investing in on-post guest lodging and recreation. If you can get past the fact that it's a trailer, then you'll be fine. That said, this wasn't a bad option for staying in the Keys for two weeks. $80 a night gets you two bedrooms, a living room, dining area, and fully furnished kitchen. If you're like our family then you don't eat out that much due to the high cost and unhealthy choices out there. A kitchen is ideal for our daily needs. The parking is good, which is a rarity in key west. The trailer area (or trailer park, if you'd like to call it that) is across the street from the post pool, which is open Wed-Sun 1100-1700. Free for active duty and kids under 5, all others it's $1. There's also the channel and some inlets nearby for fishing. I caught 3 Barracuda in less than 45 mins! It's about a 1 mile walk (1.1 miles actually) to Duval St. and all the action. A word of caution. Trumbo Point has gate guards and they are on the lookout for folks drinking and driving that are coming to the gate. Best to just walk if you know you are tying one on and ripping it up on any given night. There is no maid service, but you can grab fresh linens and towels 7 days a week at the front office. There's a dumpster at the end of the trailer row for dumping off trash. Also, be aware that these trailers are very close together, therefore, be courteous neighbors and don't make too much noise outside, I.e. Blasting music, drinking and talking too loud,etc. One complaint I do have is that our trailer had carpet in the living and bedrooms. Some trailers are tile throughout; I'd prefer that since who knows what has been on/in that carpet. Like I said, not a bad place if you go in there with reasonable expectation, I.e. It's DoD lodging. We will definitely be back at those prices, location and amenities. read more

The bad reviews are from before the renovation. We stayed at Trumble Point (the Fly Navy building) and it was great. We had a two-room suite for $125/night, 8 minutes from anything in Key West, and right next door to a NEX mini mart. Doesn't get much better than that. read more

Some thoughts on your beachside Truman Annex Navy Gateway I have been in the Navy for a good minute now, and Jesus Christ am I not exaggerating when I say this is the worst hotel I have had the displeasure of ever staying in. Why you may ask? There honestly is nothing more joyful than working outside in 95° degree heat, just to come on home to a whomping 85° room. This is the hottest room I have ever had to stay in and I lived in a 4 man shack in southern Thailand for 6 months. After calling several times, the management gladly gave us the good o'l middle finger run around. Look guys, it's simple. NO ONE WANTS TO TRY AND SLEEP WHEN THEY ARE LITERALLY SWEATING THEIR BALLS OFF. Thanks for coming to my Tedtalk and I hope you clean up this sun scorched building you call a hotel. Let me begin by saying we have stayed here many times before this latest visit. The rooms are clean and serviced regularly considering our current Covid status. We have always been pleased with everything about the Fly Navy establishment. This particular visit, my husband had a medical crisis and the folks here were SUPER. He ended up being hospitalized at the medical center and Fly Navy allowed me to extend my stay til he was released. Everyone was very accommodating and nice about the extenuating circumstances. I highly recommend you staying here if you are military and can get in. It's well worth it!!! read more

BED BUGS!! Woke up in the middle of the night itching like crazy!! Do yourself a favor and book a better hotel, trust me spending the extra dime will be worth it!! Staying on base for a detachment and my squadron has to put up with this. It's really sad to be honest. This is th FLY NAVY building in Key West. Our room was a regular room this time, there are Suites but, they are all being renovated at the moment. We had a samll room with a queen bed, TV, Mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, safe, hair dryer, and regular bathroom In the room there is a desk with chair, nightstands on either side of the bed and a soft chair. Free (slow) wifi. Free Keurig coffee every day and clean towels, what else can you ask for. Our room was $55 per night :) Considring that hotels on the key range from $150-$700 this is a good deal. You must be Military either active or retired to stay here. Loved it. Stayed at the Fly Navy Gateway Inn and have zero complaints. Room was nice and clean, temperature was perfect. New tv, etc. You have to remember that you are paying less than half to stay here than what you would pay for anything remotely similar in quality by staying on base. It's a room on key west, it's relatively cheap ($75), it has all of the "suite" amenities, and it's on the Navy base. That's the basics. If you qualify to stay, and can find a room available, don't come for resort amenties - but if you just need a place and don't want to break the bank, come here, because it will suit you just fine. It seems to be a converted/remodeled old barracks building, as it certainly has the traditional "prison" feel of barracks. It has traditional NGIS styling and the front desk is very nice/staff helpful. We found the room well prepared for our stay, aside from the toilet's water supply being shut off. After discovering the thing didn't flush, I opened the basin's lid to find no water in it - so I turned on the water and no more problems. Their are two entrances in the suites in the Fly Navy building - one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The gap around the door, both on the side and the bottom, lets a signficant amount of light in the room. So, we had to rig an unused bedsheet to fit around the door while open, then closed it to hold it in place. This keeps the light out. The gap at the bottom is so significant (about 2 inches) that they have a brisled brush thing bolted to the door's bottom. But we covered it with the sheet anyway to prevent any unwanted critters coming in....... No bed bugs, relatively clean, ample room, good location, good price - not the best NGIS I've stayed in but still nice for the price. 3 stars compared to other hotels/suites. read more

Just checked in to the Navy Gateway Inn, in Key West. The fridge was full of mold, the room had 3 cockroaches in it, and the toilet wouldn't flush. I opened the back of the toilet to see if i could fix it and found that it was full of black mold. Im not even surprised. Every time ive had to stay in a Navy Gateway, its been horrible. They should all be shut down. The only reason they make profit and arent forced to close is because military members are forced to stay in them. read more

Stayed at Navy Gateway Inn Truman Annex in Key West beginning on a Thursday night thru Sunday. I read earlier reviews that complained about noise and lack of ability to lower the room temp below 75 degrees. I was on the first floor end unit of Bldg 437 and there was very little noise at any time. There was no party atmosphere nor people slamming doors. The temperature is limited to a low of 75, but there is also a ceiling fan directly over the bed and a fan tower in the closet, so I was fine, even though I am hot-natured. In all fairness, the outside temperature was in the mid-60's at night and low 70's daytime. Because of the earlier reviews, I bought and brought my own Walmart stand fan and earplugs, but needed neither this time. On a minor down-side, the WiFi would not work for either my iPhone, Kindle or netbook computer. Page 15 of the room directory was missing, so WiFi info was not there...but you just locate the Navy signal and there is no password needed. You must apparently ask the front desk to activate the room phone with a credit card. I thought I might at least be able to call the front desk or emergency staff, but not so...it was dead. They also didn't provide a civilian # for the front desk, so I called reservations to reach them. The room was very nice and well-maintained. I paid $60 per night and you do not have to return to 2076 Chevalier at Trumbo Point to check out, thankfully. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! The first room we were given smelled like portable toilets that hadn't been cleaned in years. I called the front desk and was told that the cleaning crew had already cleaned the room and nothing could be done except to change rooms. Since there was no way in hell I, or my child could sleep in a room so rancid, I agreed to change rooms and carry my very large bag upstairs on my own with my son following with his bag. The 2nd room was only slightly better in the way that it didn't smell like portable toilets, more like several men peed all over the walls, bed and carpet. I called again and was told they didn't have anymore rooms at this time. Fine. A quick trip to Publix to buy Lysol and febreze to clean the room and spray down the sheets and still it just reeks of urine. Totally disgusting and really not what I was expecting having stayed at several military hotels while PCS'ing with my husband. Oh, and even though it's freaking hot outside, the AC will only go down to 75. When I called the front desk again, I was told to use the fan, and when I asked why I was told it's against navy regulations to allow the AC to be colder than 75. Total BS. To make matters worse, my son just discovered pubic hairs on one of the pillows and sheets!!! read more

You just can't beat the price for the location! This NGIS was under construction for upgrades when I was there so I'm sure it looks even better. The suites are a very good size, but the bathroom is small. Also, the walls are kinda thin (if you've ever stayed at a NGIS you know what I'm talking about) so be aware of that. read more

Poor Navy lodging I am Air Force and I have stayed literally all over the world, in the woods and in military tents for months at a time. My 15 year old son was creeped out he said when he walked in the bathrooms. Our room/townhouse is just worn down, stained, old, but the lodging is spacious which is what we wanted with 6 people. Clean kitchen, newer living room furniture, great AC... Now the bad. Cosmetically the entire lodging needs some TLC, updating, cleaning, overhaul! Cracks, stains, bad contracting quick fixes it appears. We love the area, great place to run, the kids had fun going on runs and long boarding. The Roosters do not bother me, but they bothered Papp Bear trying to sleep. Great mini mart. Overall great location, we parked our boat close, but we found it difficult to wash the boat and our dive/snorkel gear. Both the bases need more boat wash and gear cleaning areas. We only saw one boat motor cleaning area and there was a line of boats waiting. Lastly we where disappointed the washer and dryer was removed from the facility, so we will have to find out where we can do laundry. If the government will give the Navy some money for updates this place would be the bomb! Update : Found the laundry behind the pool. It's a $1 a load to wash $1 a load t dry. Change machine is currently broken, tray is over flowing yet I see lots of workers sitting around this week. Beautiful sunset view from the bridge. Cute pool, Thanks for letting us stay. read more

A REVIEW WORTH READING AND HEEDING In early November I reserved a room at Truman Annex for 3 nights. On 28Nov13 after checking into Trumbo Point getting our keys and driving to Truman Annex and carrying up our suitcases to the 3rd floor we made it to our room.It seemed warm and stuffy when first entered so I attempted to lower the temperature to 72 degrees instead of 76 degrees that the COMFORT STAT indicated but would not lower but to 75 degrees. I called the front desk at Trumbo Point and was told then, for the FIRST time, that the room temperature could not be adjusted to anything lower than 75 degrees in all the rooms on all three installations. Not only did it remain hot in our room but the HD LG flatscreen TV had a snowy picture on all of the channels for our entire 3 day stay. When I called the front desk a second time now about the TV they said all 3 installations were experiencing the same issue. Here's the kicker, when I spoke with the (General Mgr) the following week he said "if you didn't like it you could have left and went somwhere else". OH REALLY Had I have been forewarned in early November by the reservation clerk of room temperature restrictions before giving them my credit card number we defintiely would have done just that. This was our first time in Key West and we were expecting it to be a pleasant, comfortable and relaxing stay at NAVY GATEWAY INNS & SUITES Key West. Unfortunately for us that was not the case and at $65 a night we got even less than what we paid for. read more

My ex husband and I stayed at the Lodge for 2 nights back in 2009. I believe our room was on the 8th or 9th floor. The Lodge is very nice, clean and the staff was very nice and accommodating. The rooms were very nice and clean as well. The one downfall of our two night stay was the ghost that occupied our room. I kid you not there was a spirit that hung out there the entire time we were there. When we initially opened the door to the room, I felt a slight uneasiness and the room was bone chilling cold. We tried everything to warm it up even turning off the AC but to no avail. I always felt like someone was watching me and it was especially strange in the bathroom. When my ex went out for a few hours to take pics, I stayed in there watching tv and relaxing. For some reason the room got bone chilling freezing again and I felt like I had company. Later that night when we fell asleep, we both woke up at the same time and literally bolted upright. We looked at each other and said "Did you hear that?" There were sounds as if a person was moving around the room as if they belonged there. We couldn't believe that it woke us both up out of a solid sleep and at the same time. We were kind of freaked out and laid there in the dark and just listened to the rustling sounds. Morning could not come soon enough. We weren't frightened and it did not feel menacing but it was there for whatever reason. We asked the front desk if the Lodge had any ghost and she just looked at us and smiled. We took that as a knowing yes and continued with our stay. we did not hear the sounds the following night and we stayed awake purposely to see. we enjoyed the say but were happy to leave that room. read more

the wifi is terrible so if you have anything you want to do on the internet you can forget about it. this is supposed to be a place for military members can call back home to our families at night when were off work and since theres no cell service here this is the only option. it was very frustrating trying to get anything to load. We stayed in the MWR townhouses at Trumbo Point. Essentially it's old military houses. As a gal who prefers high end hotels / boutique hotels, I can recommend this and would easily stay here again. It has the standard military housing "masking tape yellow" paint color on the walls. The townhouse was clean, with new furniture in it. There were three bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs. Downstairs was the kitchen with full size fridge, oven, dishwasher and all the kitchen items you could need. Microwave, toaster, dishes, silverware etc. a dining room table for 6. The washer and dryer (relatively new) were downstairs. A half bath, living room with chair, ottoman, love seat and couch. The back door opened to a screened in porch. The pool on the base is right there, an easy walk for the kids and adults. There is no carpet throughout, and there are no rugs. This was a pro for us. Being at the beach, sand can be a mess. So it's easier to clean without the carpet. There is not daily housekeeping. However you can swap out your used towels for fresh clean ones. And you need to take your trash out to the outside trash can for your unit. However, being able to save money by staying there allowed us to spend more freely, and get more souvenirs. We ate breakfast here, went out, returned for lunch and went back out. Then ate dinner it each night. We bought tickets with FURY (for glassbottom boat and snorkeling tours) at the Sigsbee ITT office. Also went to the beach at Truman annex. Rented snorkeling equipment there for super cheap, and beach chairs. Played ping pong, pool, and shuffleboard inside too! Great setup for military folks to use and enhance their key west experience! Stayed in the MWR townhouses at Trumbo Point. They are old military housing units made into a MWR rental. We had a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath unit and it was good for the price. $120 per night compared to about $359 for downtown. We have a family of 5 and it was comfortable. It is about a 10 minute walk to downtown where you can catch the trolley tour and also other attractions. ITT at Sigsbee is very helpful with tickets for local attractions. read more

I recently went to Key West for a detachment and I was assigned a room at the Boca Chica. The room I had to share was completely filthy. It was infested with ants, and when I complained, they never did anything about it. I had to buy my own bug spray and deal with the issue myself. The cleaning lady never changed the sheets. The room at the other end of the hall from mine had bed bugs. I know this because the person staying in that room was a co-worker and she caught a few to show the front desk. Nothing was done. After a week of being there, I was told I needed to relocate because my room was reserved for someone else that was coming in from a different command. I was extremely happy to get out of the room regardless if it wasn't by choice. I was moved to Fly Navy where the officers usually stay and it was much better than the room I had before. It was very clean, the cleaning lady came every day and the staff seemed nice at the time. When I returned home, I realized that they charged my government travel card twice for my stay in Fly Navy. When I called to discuss the mistake they made, I was given the run-a-round. I spoke with 5 different people in two days and nobody could seem to give me an answer. After speaking to a representative and becoming frustrated, I demanded to speak with their manager. He proceeded to put me on hold for 15 minutes. I hung up and called back, this last person that I spoke with said that the manager was busy and would call me back. You can imagine how irritating this can be at this point. After a few hours past, I received a call from the manager, Jeff. He apologized for the misunderstanding and told me that the extra charge would be refunded between 5-7 business days. I don't understand why was it so hard to get my refund when I still had my receipts. Be careful and watch the charges that they make to your card. Also, buy your own bug spray to kill any ants, roaches, bed bugs, ect...because they wont do anything for you at Boca Chica. read more

I've stayed here twice. It's a great, cheap place to stay while in Key West. The second time I stayed there was during the summer and the room seemed to stay pretty warm (like everywhere else in Key West). The bathrooms are small. Normally I feel safe staying on base but the second time I stayed there someone tried to come into my room around 2 AM (I'm assuming they were drunk and trying to get into the wrong room). The noise woke me up and briefly scared me. On a Saturday morning the maid tried to come into my room and it wasn't even 9 AM yet. I had great views both times. The room had a bed, desk, chair, fridge, and microwave. There is a continental breakfast for a low cost but it's only available Monday through Thursday, so plan to go off base for breakfast on the other days. There's a mini-mart across the street. I was able to leave my rental car on base and walk to many places such as Front Street, so it was a very convenient location. read more
