Another stay here, and as always, perfect. Spotless room, very comfortable bed, the convenience of having a fully stocked kitchenette, a simple, but decent breakfast, and an on-site, reasonably priced Laundry. All, in an excellent location, and an extremely reasonable price for a New York City area hotel. What was special about this trip, is how they go out of their way on details. When I got into my room, I noticed that they gave me the mobility accessible room. I didn't ask for it. My late partner was the one who had the mobility accessible issues. The only thing that I can figure, is that the person who made the reservation, either saw a note in the computer or remembered us, and didn't realize that it was my partner with the mobility issues, and sadly, she is no longer with us. I know what it's like to need a mobility accessible room and not have one available, so of course I offered to move. They did not need the room for another guest, so I just kept the room for my entire stay. I'm not complaining in the least. I'm thrilled, that this hotel who gets a lot of different guests, went out of the way to specifically remember me without me, saying anything, and remember any specific issues attached to my reservation. Meh. Nice room, but the cleanliness of the bathroom could be better. The biggest downside was that the room darkening shade did very little to darken the room. Additionally, the continental breakfast left much to be desired - a super small, very cramped space with little room to move around when busy. They also ran out of soap and the bottles of shampoo and other bath products in the bathroom were empty. Bummer. read more

Navy lodge is an amazing place. Their rooms are clean, comfortable, and up to date. We stood in a business room which was well proportioned with a bedroom - king size bed, living room - sofa, dining room - dining table, and kitchen - full size fridge, stove, sink, and kitchen utensils. This place has everything you need to have a wonderful vacation. They even have a wonderful continental breakfast which is great to get your day started or have breakfast in bed if you're celebrating an anniversary :) We might have had a little issue with the door but accommodation was accurately done. Personnel - Ms. Cole and I wish I had maintenance lady who also helped us, they were great! Very attentive, polite, professional, and knowledgeable, always willing to help. This place was a hidden gem in our opinion. It's on Staten Island but honestly a stone throw away from the bridge into Manhattan and equally easy to get to Brooklyn. It was actually nice too knowing if we wanted to we could get out of the city and not deal with the crowds. We went during New Years Eve and the price COULD NOT have been beaten especially since we had our puppy with us. This property has been completely renovated which was nice and had we wanted to we had everything we needed to cook in the room, of course. They have a complementary breakfast which isn't much but would get you by until you can get into the city or explore Staten Island. Thank you for our stay! read more

Highly recommend Navy Lodge NY. We saved a ton of $ and had a great time. We stayed 4 nights before a cruise, 4 nights after. Best deal in town: Large room with a kitchenette, complimentary breakfast and laundry room all helped tremendously. There were also lots of open spaces in the area for long walks each morning and we picked up a few needed items at the CGX shoppette nearby. Biggest consideration for us: commuting into the city so here's what we did on different days: Uber/Lyft (well under $20) or bus (cheap) to Staten Island ferry (free). There r a few bus stop options with stops approx 2 min, 6 min and 12 min away so check ur maps to make sure ur going to the correct stop. If the weather is good all stops felt safe with one involving crossing a busier street and I recommend a walking light at night but there are streetlights as well. Bus got a bit sketchy at night but we were good! Express bus to/from midtown Manhattan ($7 ea way and not included in the transport "cap" but totally worth it). Benefits: faster than ferry, nicer charter style busses with reading lights and usb ports, quiet passengers, mostly commuters and sometimes empty during non rush hour Uber/Lyft to/from EWR (65-70 before gratuity) and to/from Brooklyn Cruise port (approx 35-45 before gratuity) reasonable and remember nyc has tons of toll roads so ur paying for convenience. But rates to/from midtown were really high so we mostly did public transportation. While there I checked Uber/Lyft rates to JFK and LGA and they were approx the same as to/from EWR Bottom line: we commuted more than most travelers but feel we saved $1200-$2000 over what they were asking for even the rattiest 2 stars in queens, Jersey city, and more than that amount if you compare to what they were charging in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Commuting on public transport took about 40-75 min each way daily depending on destination with uptown taking longer. But if it's any consolation even commuting within Manhattan or other boroughs can take almost as long! So if you're a leisure travel I recommend staying at Navy Lodge if you've got a few days to compensate for commuting and you're not into nightlife. Thanks Navy Lodge! It's not the Marriott but you get what you pay for. At the rate of $130 one can't complain about much, especially when you have plenty of space and a furnished kitchenette. The tub was a bit dingy and could use an upgrade, the drawers in the dresser and nightstand wouldn't stay closed. But that didn't effect my stay much. I will say that the air conditioner was a bit loud though. Thankfully you are supplied with enough pillows to put one over your ear if need be. That seemed to do the trick for me. I was pleased to see there was a small offering for breakfast. It wasn't anything fancy and there weren't a ton of options to choose from. But it would fill your belly until you got through to the ferry terminal where you could buy something a bit more substantial if need be. read more

Ok five stars for two reasons. 1/. The price in NYC is second to none. Bottom line up front. Safe neighborhood, quick to the ferry, and easy to Manhattan by car 2/ the condition of the room and friendliness of the staff. Every time we stay they make you feel at home. The notion that north easterners are rude is BS. The staff seem to love what they are doing and who they are doing it for. Top notch service. I have stayed at five star hotels and the service and customer service is different but on par. TV did not work this visit on first night (we got there late) staff said it would be fixed first thing in the AM and it was fixed as promised. Room clean beds comfortable. This hotel is absolutely disgusting. Great location with easy access to Staten Island Ferry and friendly staffs, but holy crap. When we first checked in, the condition of the room (119) was unbelievable. Tiny hairs all over the bed (either someone shaved, or cut their hair there), shower drain was popped out, tiny hairs all over the sink area with stains on the wall & mirror. Not to mention ants near the toilet area (we ended up using the restroom in the lobby). We asked for the staff to change all the beddings and my husband borrowed the vacuum and vacuumed the room himself because the floors were dirty too. You get what you pay for, but the room conditions were just unacceptable. We originally booked 2 nights, but we checked out after the first night to stay at another hotel. At least their cancellation policy is great. read more

BLUF... you get what you pay for. Very friendly staff and convenient location, but the rooms are very dirty. We had mildew in our bathtub, hair all over our pillows and bed (looked like beard.. or pubic trimmings), and dirt/dust everywhere. I notified the staff and they replaced our sheets with no issue, but it is what it is.. I ended up borrowing a vacuum to clean the room myself. read more

If I could give this place a zero star I would just for the pet policy. The pet policy needs to be reviewed. I watched a pet not only charge at me when I walked near it, but watched that same pet bite another guest staying on the property. This pet shouldn't be allowed to stay but the manager did nothing to prevent this from happening, she wasn't present either. I wanted to be reimbursed, because I had to move locations to Fort Hamilton lodging because the viscous dog was still on property. I witness a guest getting bit did not want to be the next, there was no control over the situation . Other than the situation not handled. I can say that the housekeeping staff and front desk are amazing. Patricia, Gani, Jahyel the front desk supervisor has shown the up most professionalism. Any question or concerns or help I needed I was able to be assisted. All front desk are outstanding. To my surprise Jahyel who helps everyone, you would think she is the manager of the property. When I addressed the situation with the dog she did the best she could do to handled the situation. I watched her call the manager who wasn't present, to explain the situation and then I received nothing back not a call or not to ensure I was okay. I was so disappointed when I found out that jahyel was just a supervisor, she was wonderful, kind and understanding and took initiative. Out of the 20 odd years i've been going from lodge to lodge. The front desk and housekeeping is expectional I also wanted to give a major call out to housekeeping , even with new polices of cleaning the room, I was able to get my sheets and towels changes if requested. Nedra, shandell , nerupa , Dee, Samantha, we're all phenomenal. With housekeeping being busy, you could see that they're overworked, but they come to work so positive and ready to assist. They do not get the recognition that they deserve. read more

Me and my family stayed here for our Family Reunion and it was great. The rooms were clean, and the Continental breakfast was decent. Didn't get there names but the two young ladies one when we checked on 6/16, and the one when we checked out on Sunday 6/18 shift was outstanding host. They went above the standard to make sure me and my family enjoyed our stay while at the Navy Lodge. Can't wait to to return. read more

Knocked two stars off the fact that the receptionist likes to talk over you. Not all just the heavy set older lady who works in the morning. They only serve oatmeal - English muffins -cereal - milk and orange juice- also apples and some other pastry filled with sugar. Try getting there when breakfast begins it goes pretty fast! This hotel has a lot of tourist visiting New York in and out everyday the parking lot is pretty full when you return at night. They leave the coffee and hot tea out during the day so you can have something warm whenever you please. The rooms are not bad I had the two queens with a kitchen not sure if all rooms have kitchens. I would recommend staying here during a weekend, not for an extended stay. read more

Let me start by saying I stayed at the Navy Lodge in Great Lakes last Saturday and Sunday and I stayed at the Navy Lodge in Norfolk Tuesday and Wednesday. When arriving at the Navy Lodge in Staten Island I was told that I was early and they didn't have my room available yet, which wasn't anything I was too worried about. I asked about how long and was told "I don't know but it may be a while, the girls are in the back eating lunch right now, I need to make sure my girls eat lunch". This completely blew me away since 1200 check-out and 1500 check-in is an industry standard. I went to the Coast Guard Exchange and came back to the lobby to leave my number for the front desk to call when my room was ready. I left again and came back to find multiple guests checking-in and I never received a call. For the most part the room was great. The bathroom sink and shower were clogged and drained extremely slow. The iron still had waterl in it from another guest and the iron was partially rusted. I will say this was the best price in the area and very close to friends I was visiting. Not sure if I'd stay here again or stay across the bay in Brooklyn. read more

Great and affordable place to stay if visiting NYC. It's about a 30-40 min drive to the city. The rooms are a good size and clean. Only downside is there isn't an elevator which isn't a big deal because $140/night for two beds and a kitchenette is an amazing deal for that area. read more

So here is the issue - the staff was FANTASTIC. The rooms were AWESOME. The breakfast is lacking BUT you know this going in. No big deal. The cons - all of the room doors need springs s that the doors dont slam every 5 minutes. Everytime someone leaves the room, the doors slam so sleeping through the night is impossible. My real issue are with the idiotic parents that think it is ok to have 4 children jumping off the beds at 1145 pm - then send them out in the hall to run in the hall and play. YOU FREAKS OF LIFE!!! That having been said, $110 a night just minutes from NYC cant be beat. Just have to be ready for loud doors. Management - i will tell you i can guarantee an upgrade of adding springs to 100 doors cant really cost that much - but would make such a world of difference especially at night. Just a thought. For place to stay close to the ferry, and relatively close to Manhattan, this is a great place. Rooms were very clean and they provided us with an air mattress to accommodate our extra person. The price was very doable for a family of 5 staying in NYC for a night, and not wanting to break the bank at a hotel in Manhattan. We did wish we knew ahead of time that there would be a mini kitchen in the room, because we ended up not getting the food we wanted for pick up. So a good thing for future guests to know, they do have a mini kitchen. Stove, microwave, sink, and fridge. Everything seems to be recently updated, which is a pleasant surprise! Overall not too shabby! We're definitely coming here for our future New York endeavors. read more

I wouldn't classify it as a dive per se, but it definitely didn't measure up to our usual experiences in military lodging. This was our second stay, and the place seems to have deteriorated a bit in the past few years. The sad thing is that it wouldn't really cost that much to give this place a face lift & change it into something more along the lines of the other Armed Forces Recreation Center resorts. The good news is the price -- $93/night, and no taxes, which is a huge deal, especially in NYC. The Staten Island Ferry is convenient, less than a 10 minute drive away, parking at the ferry is inexpensive, and the ferry ride itself is a fun experience. Add in the fact that the two-bedded rooms have queens, there is plenty of room for the (free) rollaways, and the rooms have kitchenettes, making them especially handy for families, I wouldn't rule it out. However, if it were just a couple, I'd recommend a place in the city, which could probably be relatively comparable price-wise. read more

The Navy Lodge more then met my expectations!!! When we checked in the employee could not have been nicer!!! She answered all of our questions and even offered to change our dollars for quarters for the bus the next day. While my husband was checking in I walked over to the coffee urns to get some coffee but they were empty. It was early afternoon so I figured they didn't refill them after breakfast. When we came back in with our stuff she told me that there was fresh coffee. I witnessed lots of other examples of the staff going above and beyond to help guest. Our room was amazing!!!! It was large and spacious. The kitchen was perfect!!! It would have been great if we'd wanted to eat in our room. The location was very convenient as well. The bus to the ferry terminal picks up just down the street. We would totally stay here again!! Only bad part is, there isn't an elevator. read more

(Aggravated because we just flew coast to coast, it's 11pm and I have a copy of reservation printed from the Navy Lodge website.) After diligently searching the reservation system for over 10 minutes, guess what?...she found it. Ok, now onto the next! Definitely not CLUB MED. Room: Average Bed Convertibility: Mehhhh! Noise Level: THERE IS A GROUND FLOOR! AND FOR PRACTICAL REASONS THIS IS WHERE FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN SHOULD BE ASSIGNED TO! Amenities: few Location: On a old Army Fort converted into a Coast Guard station. Perks: We got to see some deer running around & there is a small MWR office so we were able to get % tickets for NYC activities. . Not too much to see here. About a 10 minute drive to the Staten Island Ferry terminal. (Parking @ ferry $9.00 per day) Ferry ride to Manhattan is a absolute TREAT! Continental breakfast SUCKED! Wrapped danishes & muffins, orange juice & coffee. We ate breakfast elsewhere. Hotel still recovering from Superstorm Sandy. It felt a bit , well needed some attention! The rate is on the cheap cheap, which is GREAT if your traveling to NYC but don't get your hopes up too high. Its just a decent place to stay if traveling to NYC! read more

My family and I stayed at the Navy Lodge on Staten Island. There are no elevators so if your bag is heavy or if you have a lot of bags, hopefully they will give you a room on the first floor! They do have laundromats on the first floor. It is $1.00 to wash for 25 minutes and $1.00 to dry for 20 minutes. If you do not have laundry detergent...it is available to buy in the laundry room. Or you can buy it at the CGX near the front gate. You will need scissors to open the detergent. The rooms are a good size. There is a small kitchen with a microwave, stovetop, toaster, coffee pot, fridge, sink. There is a small table for eating. The bathroom is decent sized. Small closet space but many drawers in the bureau and in the cubbies around the sink. A "mini" complimentary breakfast is provided between 6 AM and 8 AM downstairs next to the lobby. They have Dannon yogurt, bottled water, store bought muffins, coffee, hot water, and tea. If you check out the offers they have you can get discounts on places like Rockafeller Center Tower and a lot of different places and shows. If you are in Manhattan, check out the USO located at Port Authority. They can get you discounted tickets for shows and some free tickets. Plus you can use the internet for free and they have free beverages and snacks. read more

I was a military brat and now a military wife and this is one of the junkiest lodges, aside from Monterey, that I've ever stayed at. The rooms need to be renovated badly and is kinda dingy, the toilet in my room ran all night long, the beds were so so, and the blankets felt kinda scuzzy. They say they have pet rooms, but don't be fooled. Lots of hotels say they are pet friendly, but only if they are under 50lbs. That restricts a lot of other dogs and I'm still confused on the why the weight issue. Now, they need to make a rule that if you have kids or you are over 250lbs, the only rooms you will be offered are ground floors, because it sounded as if elephants had the room above me. The service was very friendly. We stayed in a pet room and for the most part it was clean. Didn't care for the huge dog barking at night but price you pay for having to stay in a pet friendly hotel. Breakfast was simple but did give us fuel to make it into NYC for a full breakfast. read more

I stayed here alone with my three daughters. Felt very safe. The room had a kitchenette with full fridge. Ride to the manhattan ferry was less than 10 minutes. 8$ for a full day to park at ferry. For the city, it was inexpensive, clean, and nicely furnished. The addition of a full kitchen with all of the pots and pans you will need was a plus, as we had the ability to save money by cooking our own food (should we chosen to do so). Plenty of parking (in a safe, secure area) which was a plus. Fast access to NJ and Ferry (about 12 mins by car). All in all, my wife and I enjoyed our stay and will come back again. read more

This is a basic lodge but it has all the essentials you need. I only stayed overnight and spent most of the day in Manhattan but the receptionist was very accommodating as well as resourceful. Despite the difficulty of understanding her thick accent, she was able to direct me to all the tourist locations and local restaurants/shopping centers. The rooms look exactly like the pictures. If you're looking for someplace inexpensive to stay near NYC, this will do the trick. But, don't expect anything great. As far as military lodges go, the place is about average. But, compared to commercial facilities, its definitely below average. The front desk staff was friendly. The hotel was clean during our visit. Our room was updated and comfortable. And the view of the nearby Narrows Bridge is pretty cool. However, as others have noted, the continental breakfast was terrible. And the facility isn't really conveniently located for sightseeing in NYC; 10-15 min drive to the Staten Island Ferry (traffic dependent), $10-15 for parking (depending upon where you park), 30 min ferry ride, and then a subway ride or walk to the sights you want to see. Note, the lodge and ferry station are both in a lousy part of town. Though we felt safe at the lodge and walking to/from parking at the ferry, its not an area you want to wander around, especially at night. We'd stay again if we needed an inexpensive option. But, we'd first look across the river in NYC. read more
